Towing will put an additional heat burden on both your engine cooling system and your transmission. A higher capacity radiator will certainly drop your engine temp when you're towing with your Dakota, but an easier and less-costly alternative is to simply add a powered fan like the Derale # D18217. Radiator upgrade are usually needed only for extreme applications like racing.
This fan is a push or pull type so it can be mounted on the inside of your radiator (space permitting of course) to help your OEM fan move more air through the radiator to increase its cooling efficiency. It offers two speeds, 1800-rpm and 2400-rpm, and includes the mounting components.
It is 2-5/8-inches deep and requires a mounting area of 8-7/8- x 15-5/8-inches tall.
For a transmission cooler you can use Derale # D13502 along with fitting kit # D13030.
Together these cooling upgrades will take a lot of the stress off the Dakota and allow it to tow near its full capacity with less wear and tear.
