Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.

While this assembly is intended for primary cooling and should, therefore, provide enough CFM to replace your vehicle's factory fan, you will still need to determine the CFM requirements for your engine before making your purchase. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.

Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16778 and D16779.

  • Radiator Fan for 1966 Chevy Pickup Truck
For your 1966 Chevy Pickup I recommend taking a look at a smaller dual radiator fan like the Derale # D16812 that measures 23-3/4 inches wide, 11-1/2 inches tall, and 3 inches deep. This is going to match up much better to the mounting space you have available but its 2 high-powered electric fan assemblies will still do a great job of keeping the engine temperatures down when your truck is at a stop. Two high-amperage relay harnesses and all the necessary hardware is included. You could...

  • Availability of Replacement Fan for Derale Dual Radiator Fan-and-Shroud Assembly # D16812
The Derale High-Output, Dual Radiator Fan-and-Shroud Assembly, part # D16812 is the only electric fan I have in the 25 inch diameter. If one fan goes out it can be replaced with just one fan. The replacement fan will be the Derale 12 Inch High-Output, Electric Radiator Fan, part # D16925. If you wanted a higher CFM dual fan assembly The closest size I would have would be the 26 inch diameter electric fans. I have three of them that have a 4,000 CFM capacity. I am including a link to a...

  • Dual Electric Radiator Cooling Fan Setup for a 1971 Dodge Demon
The fan shroud on the Derale High-Output, Dual Radiator Fan-and-Shroud Assembly part # D16812 is about 1-1/4" thick but the space between the fans is only about 2". Therefore, I would not recommend going this route. Unfortunately, due to the 2-3/8" of clearance from the radiator to the outer knob on the water pump, your options for a puller electric fan setup is almost non existent. Therefore I have two options for you. The first option you have would be to replace the water pump pulley...
