Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.

Before purchasing an electric fan, be sure to determine the CFM (cubic feet per minute) requirements for your engine. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.

Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16778 and D16779.

Video Transcript for Derale Radiator Fans - Electric Fans - D16508 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Derale 8 inch Tornado Straight Blade Electric Fan with the Toggle Switch. This 8 inch reversible tornado fan has proven to be a perfect addition to transmission and engine coolers that could use some extra air flow. It will increase fuel economy, horse power, and torque and it improves the overall performance. This fan can be mounted on either side of the cooler as a pusher or a puller with no loss of air flow. It is set up from the factory as a puller application. If you do want to change it to a pusher application, you'll need to remove the fan, flip it over, and reinstall it on to the motor shaft. If you notice, this has a nice ultra low profile design for tight applications.

It does use an ultra quiet patented straight blade design. You can see it's 10 blades on the fan. This part will include everything shown here on the table. It includes the electric fan assembly, the fan mounting kick, the lighted toggle switch with all the hardware for installing that, a 20 amp fuse holder with its hardware, and a nice set of detailed instructions that show you how to install it on to your vehicle. A few specs on this: the maximum cubic feet per minute this fan moves is 500, the power draw is 4.8 amps. I'll give you a few measurements on this. You're going to measure the overall width of it, from this end to this end.

That's going to be right at 8-1/4 inches. The height from the very bottom to the very top is right at 8 inches. The depth from the front right here to the very back is going to be right at 2-3/8ths inch deep. On the fan itself, the fan is an 8 inch diameter fan and the fan is 1-3/8ths inch deep. That should do it for the review on the Derale 8 inch Tornado Straight Blade Electric Fan with the Toggle Switch..

The fan fit in there perfectly, I’m glad you guys had the info of this fan online! It was perfect for the cooler! It is install to where it pulls the air into the trans cooler and pushes air thru my condensor radiator, it is doings an awesome job! I would give you guys 5 stars but the cable wasn’t long enough, specially when three connections need to be on the back of the switch. I also wish you guys would have added the 25 amp fuse that the instructions asked for. Luckily I had a fuse and some extra cable laying around to make it work. I am happy with the product and it works like a champ.

  • Recommended Electric Fan For Transmission Cooler On 2007 GMC Yukon XL 5.3L
We sure do! The correct fan will be dependent on the size of the transmission cooler installed on your 2007 GMC Yukon CL 5.3L. More than likely the Derale 8" Tornado Electric Fan - 500 CFM # D16508 would be close enough in size to work properly, and would give you the additional air flow you are wanting for the cooler. If you find your transmission cooler is less than 8" tall just let me know and I would be happy to recommend the correct fan for you. I included a video of the # D16508...

  • Benefits of Using Electric Fan that Only Covers Portion of Cooler
The Derale 8" Tornado Electric Fan # D16508 referenced in your question can be used as a pusher or puller. The fact that the fan will only cover a portion of the transmission cooler will still provide benefit, as the fluid from the affected area will be dispersed from there through the tubes and lines. So while the fan is only providing additional airflow to part of the cooler itself, it will still have a positive effect on the entire system. Pushing air towards the radiator will not...

  • Wiring Derale Atomic-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit D15950 for Pusher Application
To reverse the polarity and airflow direction of the Derale Atomic Cool transmission cooler # D15950 from a puller to a pusher installation you will need only reverse the two wires to the fan motor. This process is covered in the instructions for fan part # D16508 which are linked for you. Do note that puller applications will usually be much more efficient since they allow the fan motor to work in the same direction as the passive airflow. But my contact at Derale did confirm that nothing...
