Camping Kitchen for Yakima EXO System

Yakima EXO Modular SystemYakima EXO Modular System

With this camping kitchen for your modular Yakima EXO system, you'll be the chef du Jour at the campsite or when tailgating at the big game. The kitchen lets you transport, prepare, and cook meals no matter where you are. Simply remove whatever accessory you have on your EXO base system and replace it with the kitchen. Although it will work best on the upper tier of a two-tier system, you can attach it to a single-tier system. An adjustable leg kit is also included so you can set up the kitchen in places where you can't park your vehicle.

Chuck Box for Food Storage and Prep

Yakima EXO OpenRange Camp Kitchen Cargo Box

The OpenRange chuck box is the centerpiece of the EXO camping kitchen. Load it up with cookware, dinnerware, and spices and use it as a workstation at the campsite. The front panel can be used as a prep table, the removable shelf inside the box lets you organize your gear, and a silverware drawer underneath the shelf stores knives, forks, spoons, and smaller kitchen gadgets. A pole with a hook for a lantern (sold separately) is also included so you can cook at night.

Yakima EXO OpenRange detched from base unit

Locking latches secure the chuck box to the base system. If you can't park where you want to cook, you can undo the latches, remove the chuck box from the base system, and carry it wherever you want to go. Handles on the sides of the chuck box make it easy for 1 person to carry.

Yakima EXO leg kit

The included leg kit allows you to set up the chuck box away from your vehicle and off the ground. It has telescoping legs that let you adjust the chuck box to the optimal height. It also includes a storage bag that makes the legs easy to transport.

Yakima EXO CookOut Propane Stove

The backboard organizer lets you quickly access condiments, dishrags, and cooking utensils. The metal legs let you install it in the holes provided on the chuck box or either side table.

Propane Stove

Yakima EXO CookOut Propane StoveYakima EXO leg kit

The CookOut propane stove is perfect for off-the-grid cooking. It has 2 burners with individual control knobs so you can adjust each flame from high heat to simmer, and the folding side panels protect the flames from wind. There's also a hanging storage bag for a standard 1-lb propane tank (not included) that connects to the kitchen's metal side table to keep your fuel close but out of the way. For longer trips, you can add a refillable 5-lb or 10-lb propane tank (sold separately).

To light the stove, connect your propane tank with the included regulator, open the lid, give each knob a half turn counterclockwise, and push the red piezo igniter. When you're done cooking, disconnect the propane tank, fold down the lid and side panels, and tuck the stove into the included storage bag.

Side Tables

Yakima EXO Camp Kitchen Metal Side TableYakima EXO CookOut Bamboo Side Table

2 Side tables are included to increase your cooking preparation area. The heat-resistant metal side table provides a surface for the propane stove and has a wire rack that flips over to create a towel holder. The bamboo side table has a cutout that can interchangeably hold either the included sink or cutting board, while leaving enough surface space for a mixing bowl. The sink has a rubber plug and drain tube that lets you direct the water away from camp when you're ready to drain the basin.

Yakima EXO telescopoing legsYakima EXO telescopoing legs

To set the tables up, first decide how high you want the tables to sit and connect them to one of the three connection points on either side of the chuck box. There are two sets of attachment rungs on the sides of the cargo box and another attachment point on the handles. Both tables have a telescoping leg that's easy to adjust. With the tables attached to the cargo box, extend each leg to match the height of the table, fine tune each leg so the tables are level, then tighten down the hand knobs.

Camping Kitchen Security

Yakima Built-in Locks

Same Key System (SKS) locks on each chuck box latch secure the gear inside. The chuck box also secures to your EXO base system, using the cores that were included with the system. Additional SKS cylinders (sold separately) let you make all your Yakima products keyed alike.

Video Transcript for Yakima Portable EXO OpenRange Deluxe Camp Kitchen Review

Hey everyone. It's Evangeline right here at "etrailer" and today we'll be taking a look at Yakima's Open Range Camp Kitchen Deluxe. We'll take a look at how portable it is, what it's like having that leg kit as well as all the other accessories inside. How much space do you actually have for things like your spices or your food or your canned goods We'll take a look at all of that here at etrailer.com. (energetic drumming music) Once you've unlocked both latches, you just lift that latch up on each side and drop this down. You can see how our bamboo table is working here, kind of like a door with a little opening there.

Just pop of that out. You can see where we have our included stove. Up top. I have a little bit of space for bowls on the side. We also have our accessories for a wooden table.

On the bottom, I'm using the baseboard with its pouches for the other smaller included accessories, and we have some space for our plates. Once you get to your campsite, it's kind of set things up. So you start with your leg kit, get that all set up and then you can put the camp kitchen on top. This is fully loaded up. I do recommend having a second person to grab the other side, but there's gonna be a groove underneath your camp kitchen and this sits right on top of your leg kit.

So slide it on so you feel it settled like that. It's already pretty secure on the leg kit, but for extra security you do have these knobs with a bolt, so there's two of them. Just go ahead and tighten those down. And just like that, you've got the strong and sturdy leg kit and the camp kitchen. Notice how the legs are spread apart for more stability.

Now, these can be adjusted for height. The legs themselves can expand from 20 inches all the way out to 33 inches, but for actual use, it is a little bit shorter than that because I had to measure from the bottom of the kitchen to the ground. I have it at 19 inches and that's just because of that angle. Adjustment notches are in sets of three. That way you can make your micro adjustments but also your larger adjustments. To do so, you just loosen this knob here, make sure the top knob is tightened, and then you support the camp kitchen with one hand as you move this up and down and then side to side to secure. Don't forget to tighten down that knob once you've picked your height. We have 1, 2, 3 spots for where you can put your side table. I already installed these brackets so you're gonna have to do this before you begin, so whether you want it on this lowest bracket, the middle one, and you can even use the handles as a bracket as well. You can pick and choose. You can have one side high, the other side low, have your entire kitchen higher up, or make your entire kitchen like a table. Whichever bracket you choose, just don't forget to tighten down with these little knobs on each of your tables. So here's our deluxe kitchen all loaded up. We have our bamboo table at its lower setting. This is gonna have the sink that you can put in there or you can put the cutting board. We also have our stand, which we can use for your light. I like to put the paper towels through, just because it holds it tight but also makes it accessible. The open range is currently being used as a counter so you have our plates and bowls up top. We also have our baseboard with all the spices inside. You can flip this around as needed for access for your different pouches. And then we have our metal tables, so the stove is included, the pan is not included, the regulator is included, but the gas is not included. So those are things you're gonna have to consider bringing along for your trip as well. Compared to a dedicated camping table, they might still be able to work with a stove. You still might be able to put a cutting board on top to use as a food prep station, but that versatility of being able to move it around, it's not gonna be the same. It's also all the little accessories too, like how you can move your stand on each side. You can put the baseboard on the bamboo table, you can put the baseboard onto the open range. They all have the same notches. This just makes it easier to switch things around. No matter what function you're looking for, it has it or it has the opportunity or versatility to change to work for you. Hopefully this video helped you out with seeing if it is the right fit for your adventures. You can put this in your car, your truck, your trailer. You can carry this around for different picnics for wherever you want to go. Now, if you want the deluxe version or the base camp version, you can pick and choose. This right here was a look at the Yakima Portable Camp Kitchen Open Range System at etrailer.com.
