Are you living off the grid for extended periods of time or often dry camping at remote campgrounds without water hookups? Tired of seeking out and driving to RV parks to refill your freshwater tank or large water containers? Maintaining a safe and adequate water supply in the middle of nowhere can be a challenge. Enter the Clearsource Nomad, a portable, 2-stage water filter system designed for the rugged outdoor adventurer.

This battery-operated system (12V battery sold separately) is a boondocker's dream. The first stage filter is a 5.0-micron coconut shell carbon block filter that captures sediment, insecticides, pesticides, chloramines, volatile organic compounds, and other solvents to improve the taste and smell of your water. The second stage features a one-of-a-kind VirusGuard filter that uses a special coating to trap microscopic contaminants, such as E. Coli, the Giardia cyst, and viruses including Hepatitis A. Its sturdy frame and base were built to withstand the elements while also allowing you to setup on rough terrain by a stream or lake. The system is also equipped with a built-in 15-amp pump and uses a 10' to 15' hose (sold separately) to extract dirty, bacteria-filled water from surrounding lakes, rivers, or streams from up to 20' deep and 100' away, turning it into clean and safe water for drinking, showering, cooking, washing dishes, and more.

What is a Micron

Furrion

A micron is a unit of measurement equal to 0.0001 cm and is often used to define the size of water contaminants. Some of the most common contaminants are sediment, silt, bacteria, and the Giardia cyst. Micron levels, or pores in water filters, are typically between 0.5 to 5 microns, and in some cases as low as 0.2 microns. A common misconception of water filters is that the higher the micron rating, the better the filter. It's actually the opposite. While a 5.0-micron filter can sift out rust and sediment, a filter with a 0.5-micron rating can filter out insecticides, pesticides, chloramines, and volatile organic compounds. Lower micron filters can also trap heavy metals and the more harmful microscopic water contaminants, such as E. Coli, the Giardia cyst, Legionella, and viruses including Hepatitis A, giving you cleaner, safer, and better tasting water.

See what our Experts say about this Clearsource RV Water Filter

  • Does the Clearsource Nomad & Ultra RV Water Filter System Remove PFAS?
Yes, I spoke with Clearsource and they confirmed that their Clearsource Ultra RV Water Filter System w/ VirusGuard # CS87FR and # CS67FR do protect against PFAS.

  • Are Filters for Clearsource Ultra and Nomad Water Filter Systems the Same
The Clearsource Ultra RV Water Filter System w/ VirusGuard # CS87FR uses the replacement filter kit # CS49FR while the Clearsource Nomad RV Water Filter System w/ VirusGuard # CS67FR uses the replacement filter kit # CS39FR. The VirusGuard Filter # CS69FR is the same for both kits but the Nomad uses the 1st Stage Filter # CS79FR while the Ultra uses the 2nd Stage Filter # CS29FR as well as the Rust and Sediment Filter # CS89FR so the complete filter kits are not compatible with each other.

  • Can the Clearsource Nomad Water Filter # CS67FR Filter Gray Water to Be Drinkable?
Yes! I confirmed with my contact at Clearsource that the Nomad RV Water Filter # CS67FR can filter gray water in order to be potable (drinkable) again. However, the filters can get clogged very quickly if you do not have a drain cover/grate installed before water enters the filtration device. I recommend a strainer like the one on the LaSalle Bristol Threaded Sink Drain w/ Basket Strainer - 3-1/2" # 34433JN1007. The strainer will help keep out larger debris from ever entering the Nomad.

  • Are Clearsource Filter Replacements Interchangeable Between Water Filter Systems
The VirusGuard filter in the Replacement Filters for Clearsource Nomad RV Water Filter System # CS39FR has a 0.02 micron filter effectiveness and while the filters for the Clearsource water filter systems will fit in each filter system they all have specific recommendations based on the application for each water filter system. So you'll want to match the filter with the correct system you have. For example the # CS39FR will work best with the Clearsource Nomad # CS67FR.

  • Can The Clearsource Nomad RV Water Filter System Be Ran Without The Pump On
The Clearsource Nomad RV Water Filter System w/ VirusGuard # CS67FR is currently not able to be run with the pump turned off. I spoke with the manufacturer and they have a newer Nomad model that has a bypass hookup that will allow this but it is not currently on the market yet.

The Replacement VirusGuard Filter, # CS69FR is the replacement filter for Clearsource Nomad # CS67FR, Clearsource Ultra # CS87FR, and Clearsource Onboard Pro system # CS59FR. If you have Clearsource system then this is the needed replacement filter. The filter elements in these systems are all 2.5-inch x 10-inch cartridges. If you have an AquaFresh system, then I suggest the AquaFresh Replacement Water Filter, # AF57FR.
