GasStop ACME vs POL Graphic

Notes:

  • These valves are only meant to be used on travel trailers and fifth wheels that have the ACME connection fitting. Please see the graphic above to double check what type of valve you need.
  • Adapter fittings (sold separately) may be required to connect your hoses to your propane system's regulator.

You're headed to the next campsite, and in the chaos of packing up, you forgot to turn off your propane system. While on the road, someone rear ends you, causing a propane line to come loose, and you now run the risk of a fire breaking out on your RV. It's a dreaded situation that no one wants to suffer through.

Unlike EFVs and other built-in limiters that just reduce the flow of gas, GasStop shut-off safety valves immediately and completely shut off your gas supply when they detect either a major leak in your dual-tank propane system or major failure of your regulator. This protects both your family and your travel trailer or fifth wheel, ensuring that your camping trip remains safe, fun, and worry-free. And while these safety valves will shut off for major leaks such as a large break in a hose, they won't shut off for small leaks that result from your regulator's small housing failure or clogged chambers. This means that your furnace or heater won't go out in the middle of the night while camping in the frigid mountains over a small, less dangerous leak.

Stainless Steel Hoses Have 90-Degree Fittings

GasStop Stainless Steel Hose

If your dual-tank propane setup is in a particularly small or cramped compartment, the 90-degree ACME connections on these hoses make it quick and easy to hook up to your tanks. This helps prevent the hoses from bunching and puts less strain on them, which means they'll last longer. And you can put a cover over your propane tanks without the hoses snagging the fabric or stop it from fitting over the tanks altogether.

The braided stainless steel hoses won't crack or tear as easily as traditional rubber hoses, which get stiff after a period of time due to daily wear and tear. The hoses are also corrosion-resistant, so they can withstand the elements much better than rubber hoses.

Using the Pressure Gauges to Test for Minor Leaks

GasStop Safety Valve Testing for Minor Leaks

The integrated pressure gauges provide a clear and easy way to tell what your propane tanks' gas pressure is while the gas is being used. If it's on "high", there's been an increase in gas pressure, most likely due to excessive heat, and you'll have to cool the tanks down. If it's on "gas", then you'll know you still have plenty of usable gas left. And if it's on "low", then it's time to switch out your tanks. The gauges are also rotatable, so they can be used from any angle, though it is recommended to keep them no lower than 45 degrees from the sky.

The gauges can also be used to test for minor leaks. Once the GasStop safety valves has been installed and the gas appliances have been turned off, push down on the gauges 4 to 6 times to see what the gas pressure is. If the needles are below the red bar on the gauges, then one or more of the following is the cause: the cylinder valves aren't open, the GasStop safety valves have shut off, you have run out of gas, you haven't pushed the gauges the appropriate number of times, or the temperature is around freezing.

If the needles are above the red bar, note the exact position before turning off the valves on your propane tanks. Wait 60 seconds for standard applications and 5 minutes for longer RV gas systems. If the needles are in the same position, you can continue to use your propane system. If the needles dropped during that time, there is a leak somewhere. You shouldn't use your propane system until that leak has been found and repaired.

Installing the Safety Valves

GasStop Safety Valve Installation

These GasStop safety valves are extremely simple to install. Once your tank-propane system and all of your gas appliances have been shut off, tighten the GasStop safety valves onto your propane tanks. The re-attached your regulator and install the hoses before checking for any leaks in your propane system. To allow the gas to flow, push down on the gauge faces 4-6 times.

Adding safety valves to both tanks means you'll still be protected from gas leaks even if one tank empties in the middle of the night and the regulator kicks over to the other tank. You won't have to manually move the valves over to the other tank in the morning as you would if you had just 1 valve.

Video Transcript for Review of GasStop Propane Fittings - Propane Shut-Off Valve Gauges with Hoses - gs59fr

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this gas stop set of emergency propane shutoff gauges and 18 inch long hoses. So this set is going to help protect your family against any major propane leaks or regulator failures. So there are some safety devices that are built into your propane tanks themselves, and into your hoses, that will help to reduce the amount of propane flowing through if there we're a leak, but they don't completely shut it off. This system is going to shut off 100% of the flow. So if there's flames nearby, you're not gonna have to worry about propane leaking through and adding to the danger there, this system is going to completely stop that flow from your tanks.

So this is a really nice system to give you some peace of mind to know that if there we're any problems, it would stop it. But it's also gonna work to show you where your pressure is, how full your tank is, and will help you to discover if there's any leaks and that sort of thing. So a very versatile device here. This is going have the type one ACME fitting. So this is gonna be compatible with your travel trailers and fifth wheels.

There is a different version that is got the POL connection for your class A and class C motor homes, and that is sold separately. This is designed for your travel trailers and fifth wheel, or fifth wheels, only. So it does have a nice brass and reinforced polycarbonate construction, so it is going to be corrosion resistant. Hold up really well for you. You can see on the top there, we do have that rotating gauge that's going to allow you to very easily see if your tank has high pressure, sufficient gas, or if it's getting close to empty.

If you we're to experience a leak, and it we're to shut off your flow, to reset it, you just push down on that four to six times and that's gonna reset it and allow gas to flow through there again. So very simple to use, very simple to get installed. It's got that type one ACME fitting, so it's going to tighten down onto your existing propane tank's gas cylinder. And then you've got that connection there on the other side for your hose to fit onto. And then you can put your hose onto your regulator.

Now this is going to add a little bit of distance for your setup. So you can see from where you would normally attach, it's gonna be just a little over three inches, about three and a quarter of an inch that you're gonna be adding on there. So that's why we have the hose with the 90 degree angle here. So that's going to cut down on the space required, rather than having your hose, that kind of loops around in a lazier angle there. So this is going to be a great option for your tight spaces or small covers that you're trying to put your propane tanks in. This won't snag the cover. It will allow you to still keep everything the way you pretty much the way you have it now, just adding in this device here. So if I take that off, I can give you a few solid measurements here. So you can see we're right about four inches in overall length, our height from the corner of our ACME fitting there down to the top of our gauge, we're right about two and three quarters of an inch tall. And then our width, our widest part is going to be that ACME footing. So we're just shy of two inches. At the widest point, it's about one and seven eighths of an inch wide. And then our hose, like I said, it is an 18 inch long hose. This does have a braided stainless steel construction so it's not going to stiffen or crack like your rubber hoses. So it is going to do a good job making that connection between your shutoff gauge and your regulator there. This does have the type one ACME fitting connection and then a quarter inch male inverted flare. This does have a maximum pressure rating of 250 PSI and a maximum flow capacity for 200,000 BTU. This is going to meet federal requirements. Your hoses and your valves are UL and CSA approved so you can trust they're gonna do a good job for you. And of course, having two sets it's going to allow you to have both your propane tanks hooked up at the same time so you don't have to worry about switching from your valve and hose from one to the other if it we're to go empty. When it's time to switch to the other we do have regulators that will automatically make that switch for you. So when one tank goes empty, you can switch to the other. We also have a kit that has a regulator with it so that you can do all that. But if you already have a regulator you're just looking for the hoses and the shutoff valve this is gonna be a great kit for you. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..
