I ordered these two, front and rear for a 1990 GEO Tracker 4 wheel drive that I am rebuilding. I believed they would fit, I finally got around to mounting them and they don't fit, to large. I think I have had them to long to return them.
Exactly what I ordered. Ordered Tuesday shipped Wednesday received it Friday. Can't beat the tracking service they have it was very clear and accurate. Thank you for the great service
Hi George,
I received your email and didn't realize it had been a year already. I'm afraid I don't have anything to say that you want to hear but I will tell you anyway. I spent about a week researching this hitch and read numerous reviews about it and how easy it is to install with installation times of 30 minutes to an hour, so finally I bought one. I read the instructions when I got it, looked simple enough. I've been building cars and motorcycles most of my life, a few hot rods and drag raced Harley's for 8 years, and I had to fabricate a lot of parts on the drag bike splus I've been a CNC Machinist for 30 years, and having just retired this project was on my list of things to do NOW! Well its been a year and the hitch is now sitting in the corner of my dining room. Either I have a Jeep Cherokee that is an odd ball or its just my crappy luck. In the directions it says to use the fishwire for putting in cm-sp1 and the bolt. I can supply pictures if you want but there is no access hole anywhere near big enough to get the sp1 spacer in the frame and the end of the frame isn't open either as the directions suggest. Apparently its either butcher the frame with a hole big enough to these spacers in, which I really don't want to do, or try to sell the hitch for whatever I can get and say the hell with it, except I really need that front hitch. I realize most people are very happy with your product, but I'm sorry to say I'm not at all. You asked!
Fit on a 93 Cherokee Country model. Instructions were well written and accurate.
Great piece for the price. We removed the front spoiler first to make install easier. If you replace each of the rear sway bar bracket bolts with the new longer ones and thread them in 1/2" you can then remove the front ones and slide the hitch in under the sway bar mounts. This saves you from trying to hold up the hitch and sway bar all at the same time.
Mark for drilling then remove mount while you drill and fish in the front bolts and spacers.
Whole job was around 40 minutes,
This is the second I have purchased for the front of my 1999 xj and now my 1990 xj . I drilled the hitch for my Curt tow bar and use grade 8 bolts and backing plates. The first one worked great, the second one the side mounting plates were jigged and welded at two different angles, which caused alignment problems. I was able to make it work but the factory should check their quality control!
I had ordered a rear hitch receiver for my 2010 Ford Escape a few years back and was very pleased with the application and use I've gotten from it. This Curt front mount receiver was a breeze to install and I will be using it primarily for my snow plow on my '89 Jeep Cherokee, which matched up perfectly. Thanks for providing good products and service.
This hitch fits perfectly on my 99 xj. I was worried about frame damage because I was in an accident recently, but everything lined up perfectly. This could have really been installed in less than 15 minutes, but since I have a heavy duty aftermarket front bumper, it took an extra hour or so to trim the 1/4" thick steel bumper for the hitch to fit.
Nothing Wrong with the Product it is the Installation Directions , I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee it Fits as directed but i had to remove the front Bumper there were a slot on the frame to fit the CM-SPI through with not using the Fish wire did need to Drill a hole in the frame to get Carriage bolt to fit thru like it says .
The Directions covers lot years and Vehicles not very well i worked on many Vehicles in my life and equipment any one how has no real mechanical training or experience be very confusion by them .
No problems with the hitch. It was a little tough drilling through the hardened steel, but I was able to get it done. I used the hitch to pull my Jeep to the shop for a repair it needed. It worked great.
Mixed review. The cost was great, but installation was tough. The instructions called for 30 minute install- guess I went several hours over that. In all fairness, I also installed a new set of sway bar bushings while I was there and that added to the complexity. The meat of the problem is that the holes did not line up perfectly. I ended up gumming up two of the bolts but was able to salvage them with a small file. Had to run a tap back through the nutserts in the frame to clean them up as well. In the end, got one side finished, hooked up a come along to the tow hooks and pulled it perpendicular to the frame from another parked vehicle to "stretch" it place. No my Jeep does not have frame damage. The holes were just a little off. Could have used a file to open up the holes, but did not want to have to remove the whole assy again and refit. It does look nice and I have no doubt that it is solid. A request to Curt would be to include longer bolts. An extra 1/4 inch would have made the job a whole lot easier.
Curt front hitch for Jeep CherokeeAs usual, etrailer shipping always has what I order at my door within a couple days... gotta love that! This hitch was a snap to install, bolted right up with only 1 hole to drill per side. Hardest part was breaking loose the existing bolts on the frame, but after that, this was an easy install.
Great value and well built. Easy to install, and a great solution for a front recovery point.
EZ installation
Note: best to fish hardware through the front of the subframe behind front bumper.
Great product, no problems, high quality , videos made installation simple, GREAT SERVICE, I could not be more satisfied!
I do, even though I'm lazy and just put it in storage for a better day for putting it on.
Lot goings on !

I like it but the OCD person in me has simply bought it and placed it in the storage and not on the Jeep!:0But thats what you have to have if you want to say put a canoe all the way across the top and not touch the roof?
Product fit as advertised. It took us longer than expected to install, but overall I'm very satisfied.

The hitch in question is a fit for a late 90s Jeep, its not a fit for a GEO Tracker
