Attachment of Winch Receiver to 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport

Question:

How to attach a trailer hitch receiver to ones car. Is it welded, bolted? Is is a do-it-yourself job? It needs to go on a 96 Jeep Cherokee Sport. It will be part of an assembly to accommodate a winch. No trailer will be hooked up.

The easiest way to install a 2 inch receiver, front or back, on your 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport is to use a custom fit receiver hitch. I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Receiver Hitch, item # 75054, for the rear and the Curt Front Mounted Receiver Hitch, item # 31084, for the front of your vehicle.

If you want to use the Combo Bar 6" with 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver, item # E-911, for your jeep it would require fabrication of a mount and welding to secure it to the Jeep good enough to handle the stress that the winch will put on it. Unless you have welding experience this is not a do it your self application. I would also not recommend 1-1/4 inch size if you are planning on using the winch for vehicle recovery due to the limited weight capacity it will have.

We also have winch mounts and wiring (see links) to attach the winch to the receiver and to wire your vehicle to power the winch.
