By tapping into your towed car's brake-light switch, this kit allows your RV's monitoring system to alert you whenever the brake pedal of your towed car is being applied. Other systems operate according to whether the system itself is activated, but this isn't necessarily indicative of what is happening with the pedal itself. If your supplemental braking system is improperly installed, it may be continuously pressing on the pedal, impeding it from fully retracting and possibly causing damage to your vehicle's tires and braking system. Or it might not activate your brakes at all. With Roadmaster's Stop Light Switch Kit, you will always know when the brake is being depressed, and you will avoid costly damage.
Quick Tip: If this switch loses power (like from you swapping out your vehicle's battery), the sensor might need to be reset to ensure that it's reading when your pedal is actually depressed. Resetting the switch is as easy as pressing the recessed "home" button.
Find a ballpoint pen and use it to press and hold the recessed button shown above. Hold until the LED starts flickering. Once it stops flickering, the switch should be good to go.

I didn't want the brake lights in my plug-in hybrid activating my trailer brakes when all I wanted was regenerative braking. Now I can get regen by taking my foot off the gas pedal and trailer braking by putting my foot on the brake pedal.

Good product and quick delivery
We were at a stand still. Wiring the lights from my motorhome to my ford pickup. Sheryl saved the day, without hesitation, she described just what we needed.
Always turn to etrailer for hitch, electrical and all towin needs. Never let me down.
Install was slow due to room around brake pedal but doable if you are a DYI person. Only critical of product is the indicator light is not close to being visible. I ended up putting quick connectors on wires and replacing the tiny light in the kit with a larger brake light bar
System is good, but when the car sits awhile, it has to be reset, or it won't connect the signal. We had to call Roadmaster, and of course because it was a weekend we had to wait until Monday and just use the system without the reset. Nothing about how to reset it online that we could find.
Took 3 trips to RV shop and still didn't work. They didn't know brake light switch was required on '18 Fiesta. Then installed sensor backwards; I removed, reinstalled it, then had to paint the firewall white. Now works great!
After fighting with the brake light switch on my Jeep JL, I ordered this instead. It went on so easy and so quick I had to reread the instructions to make sure I didn't miss anything. The only drawback I see is the Even Brake wiring and the rest of the wiring is roughly 14-16 gauge, and the wires on this item might be 20 gauge. No worries, they were plenty long enough that I took an inch of insulation off and folded it a few times. Used a heat shrink connector with solder and it easily passed the pull test.

Works exactly as designed for rigs that don't have an easy solution for adding trailer brakes. I would buy it again!
I have only used this on several short trips andonce on a long trip and it seemed to work fine. I did have an issue with the first unit i received and they were will to ship me a replacement along my route so it did not hold up my trip. I really appreciated the customer service on that issue.
I will say i have not made any sudden stops so i can't comment on how much braking is actually happening but i believe it is assisting in the braking.
This worked well for me. Installed it in Subaru Forester. Using this eliminated need to connect to Subaru brake circuit.
Had it for a year, absolutely no problems. Works beautifully.

No issues works fine. We have family with rbi brake and I dont think I would want that system compared to mine
