Installation
This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.
Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

It could use a ground wire from the battery. I see how it will save the wiring harness in the vehicle the wires are very small . Well worth the money !
Great product. Delivered promptly and easy to install. Would have been easier with a trim removal tool but a needle nose worked. I'll be ordering more parts from E Trailer. They are the best.

works as well as the day I installed it. Am rebuilding a trailer and will be using E-trailer again.
A good and complete product. For my wife's Jeep Compass, stringing the wiring at various points should be better explained; the need for zip-ties at various points- across the rear, and especially the back to front battery line could have better recommendations for line routing. I need to go back under and add many zip-tie additions! Otherwise, it all works.
Conceptually, this is an easy to install product. It does help if you have access to a lift or set of ramps. Running the vehicle up on a couple of 2x6 planks really doesn't allow much wiggle room between the chassis and garage floor.
The tail lamps can best be removed by prying the plastic fastener head out with a screwdriver blade and then applying a hammer claw to complete the extraction. There are a couple of sharp edges on body panels beneath the tail lamps- you should apply extra electrical tape or wire loom to minimize wire chaffing here. I ran the harness wiring connecting to both tail lamps inside of the etrailer towing cross member- keeping the wires well protected in this area. The single power wire running to the battery- I used an abundance of wire ties to attach it to a variety of points on existing cable harnesses and then to brake lines as it neared the engine compartment. With a car lift and the benefit of hind site, this is a 30-45 minute job. Without a lift and being a first timer, this is a 2-3 hour job

It works just great
Just finished installing my trailer wire harness, my first time, pretty easy. I followed the video of the installation process (great job on the videos), made my work much easier. Actually, I not sure I would have bought the product without studying the step-by-step video, because I wouldn't have known if I could do the job....I bought the Heat Shrink Butt Connectors to waterproof the connectors - peace of mind. I also bought the little tester, so I know that everything works before I go out and buy a trailer.
Quick shipping, product was what was shown. Clear instructions, easy install.

I like that they have installation videos for things that only cost a couple bucks.
I've installed a couple of trailer hitches on our vehicles and the video was dean on.
The product arrived on time and was in good shape. The reason for the four stars instead of five is that the included directions say installation time is 30 minutes. This is very misleading because it took me about 1 1/2 hours. When you don't have access to a car hoist and have to lie on your back the entire time it doesn't go as quickly as planned. The product fit-up was good and the rest of the directions were spot on. Now the video I watched didn't match the written directions but between the two all of my questions were answered. I also purchased the wiring package for this vehicle and watching the video was VERY helpful and installation went smoothly. I say that the heat shrink wire connectors should be included instead of having to be purchased separately and need to include some longer zip ties since the directions say to attached the wires to the trailer hitch and the included ties are too short. In light of all of the above I would STILL recommend these two products.
The price for the hitch & harness for my Jeep compass was very reasonable plus free shipping. My order arrived quickly & was complete. I had a local shop install it which didn't take long & they commented that it was easier than installing on a larger Jeep with less cutting on the bumper. The quality of my hitch is top notch. I would highly recommend etrailer. I am very satisfied!
The system was a cakewalk to install. Just a tip, make sure you're getting a good ground on the white wire attached to the module box. If not, the system wont work well, if at all. A bit of sand paper did the trick for me! DO NOT HARDWIRE THE POWER WIRE TO THE BATTERY! Use the fused link provided. A buddy of mine tried taking the easy way out and wound up cooking the module. The video on this site was an excellent aid. good luck!
Install took place on a 2016 Jeep Compass. In removing the tail lamps, the video made it seem easy, but, it wasn't and it does take a special trim tool in order to remove tail lamps. Once we figured it out, the install went very fast. Everything fit and the install took 45 minutes.
I purchased my hitch and wiring from etrailer for a terrifically low price. I received my hitch and wiring 1 business day earlier than expected. I found the hitch install as well as the wiring install online from etrailer and the instructions were EXACT. I saved $300. over having someone else buy and install the parts. Also, the customer service rep I spoke to was very knowledgeable and was able to get me all set with hitch and wiring in under 5 minutes. GREAT EXPERIENCE with etrailer and I will definitely use them again if I'm ever in need of a hitch/wiring. Definitely recommend etrailer to my friends.

Easy to install and did not alter factory wiring. I soldered and heat shrink sealed the connections and ran wiring in a plastic loom. Would have given 5 star if heat shrink connectors and plastic loom been included.
I just installed a trailer hitch on my 2012 Jeep Compass. This is the 4th hitch from etrailer that I have installed on a variety of makes of cars. The installations were easy and the hitches fit perfectly. I appreciate the detailed installation videos which added to the ease of installation. The hitch was installed in less than an hour , and the wiring kit was installed also in less than an hour. Great product, fast delivery and excellent user friendly instructions.
Straight forward Install. Works great on my 2014 Jeep Compass Sport (4x4)
Had to use the video (on the product page) as well as the printed directions to wrap my head around the process (first time ever working with wiring). But it installed smoothly.
Took longer than I expected , but that was mostly with clearance issues and getting around underneath the vehicle. If you have access to a lift , the install will go very quickly!
100% satisfied with the trailer wiring harness I purchased from the price to the easy install. I have some background experience as an automotive technician, so it was probably easier to me than to some others, but the instructional video was very straightforward and easy to follow along. Works great.... very easy to install though I did not have to run the power wire to the battery since I was replacing a burned out unit... saved me lots of time running the wire.... plug & play design... bought a new trailer & found several future wear points in the wiring to prevent future shorts blowing it out again... I insulated those point... good product...

Also the deliver was quick. The price wasn't the best. But I wasn't going to take chance to wait a few days longer on deliver over a couple bucks. This wiring kit works great. Much better than trying to figure out which wires to splice into with the cheaper converters. Total install from start to finish was 1-1/2 hours. the longest part was running the power wire up to the front. would be a lot easier with a hoist. Hasn't had the test of time yet but hopefully will pass.
Easy setup but just took about 2 to 3 hours to install, only because i had to remove the old [retailer] one i had prev that shorted out. This one worked great when installed, does not come with extra plug plastic attachments for replacement of the taillights, thereforr be careful removing or you will be running to the auto part store for a 2 dollar bunch. Other then that, wqs easy to hook up, and we will see how durable the converter is
Received my order in a timely manner. It will not be installed until Friday August 21st. It has been such a hassle trying to purchase a hitch and wiring harness in my area because of the pandemic.

Was still function well Wiring and hitch are still function like new.
