For a trailer hitch that is confirmed to fit your 2016 Jeep Compass, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75712. This Class III hitch will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening and has a 3,500 pound towing weight capacity. I also recommend checking the towing capacity of the Jeep itself, as this will likely be the limiting factor. This information can be found in your copy of the vehicle's owner's manual. You will simply need to stay below whichever capacity is lower - the hitch's or the vehicle.

This hitch is custom-fit for your Jeep, which means it will use existing holes in the vehicle's frame for a no-drill installation. Any local shop or mechanic with a good reputation will be able to handle the installation without issue. The hitch has an estimated installation time of just around 30 minutes for an experienced installer. I have attached an installation video on your 2016 Jeep Compass along with the written instructions that you can take a look at. You can also use this information to obtain an accurate estimate from a local shop.

The complete hardware kit is included with this hitch, so as far as the hitch itself goes, this will be everything you need. If you plan on doing any towing, you will also need a wiring harness and a ball mount with a hitch ball.

For a trailer wiring harness, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118539. This custom-fit harness will install a 4-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle to connect with and power a trailer's signal lights. The T-One connector will plug directly into the existing ports located behind the driver and passenger side tail lights on your Jeep Compass. I have again included an installation video and the written details for you to check out.

Lastly, you will need a ball mount to pull a trailer. I have attached an article that explains how to choose the best one for your particular setup, along with a link that will take you to our available selection. I have also attached an article on towing a trailer that you might find helpful.
