Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

The hitch installed in about half an hour on a hydraulic lift. There is a good inch between the hitch and the muffler.

The wiring took over two hours hiding all the wires. It could be done in less than an hour if i had to do it again.

what model hitch do you go with? what wiring kit did you use?

James used the 118506 wiring kit from Tow Ready that he ordered from us. The hitch is Hidden Hitch part # 87574. This hitch is no longer available however the Draw Tite hitch part # 75684 will install the same.

A year ago we purchased a hitch from etrailer, and also a curt wiring harness. After the curt harness failed, and etrailer sent me another one which ultimately failed (both times the right brake signal light stuck on, and would wigwag flash against the left when the left signal was used), I decided that maybe a different brand harness would be a wiser choice, but winter came and I didn't need it as we'd missed the camping season. I recently ordered this T-One unit, and found it to be much bulkier than the curt unit, but the circuit was split differently, and it felt all around much sturdier. It works great, and I look forward to hopefully getting many years of use out of it. It will be nice being able to go camping this year as a family. So looking forward to it, and the service that etrailer has provided has been second to none as always, and if you own a Kia Sorento, I would recommend the T-One unit.

Would have given it 5 stars but the install directions were very basic and did not provide much insight in what needed to be done for a robust install.

Thanks etrailer for prompt efficient service. The installation videos are helpful for a quick, problem free install. Great products, delivery and price. Will definitely purchase from etrailer again.
Thanks Shawn

This product was a replacement for the second Curt wiring harness I had on my 2012 Kia Sorento EX. Both of the Curt wiring harnesses just simply failed over time, even with being used hardly at all. Based on other reviews on this Tekonsha product I have high hopes that this is the last wiring harness I will need to install. The Tekonsha power module is definitely much thicker and is located in a better place in the taillight than the Curt power module. I set it all up and tested the 4 flat, everything worked great! Easy install, especially when you have done it twice before!

Product is working fine! No issues.

The trailer hitch & ball fit perfectly but unfortunately the wiring harness for the lights on the trailer is the wrong one, I now have to take car to trailer sales company to get wired , I don't know what that will cost but I have no choice, this trailer hitch starting with [online] & now with the wiring problem with etrailer has been one cluster mess from the beginning & I am not done yet

This harness is a fit for the 2012 Kia Sorenta SX V6 without the factory tow package. I see that you have the 2012 Kia Sorento SX V6 with the factory package and the harness for it would be part # 118269.

Watch the etrailer video on how to install this project. It made it so easy. Getting the wiring over the bumper was tricky, but I used some string, a small hose, a piece of stiff wire and my granddaughter to get it done. We installed this and the receiver hitch from etrailer and now she is setup to pull her jet ski.

There has been no issues with the wiring kit or the receiver hitch and my granddaughter is still pulling her and her sister’s jet ski around.

Received my hitch for my 2013 Kia Sorento in about three days after placing my order. Everything was there and in good shape. The delivery company did a job on the box but the merchandize was fine.

Only question is the instructions for the $72.00 wiring harness were a little shy on instructions but I think I can figure them out. Would be nice to see more info in the installation of the wiring harness.

Your employee Gail was very helpful and efficient and I will give your company a 9 our of 10. Keep up the good work.

Prroduct arrived within a week. The installation videos were a tremendous help. I installed the hitch myself and use 2 hydraulic bottle jacks to raise the hitch, which is quite heavy, into position until I was able to thread a bolt in on each end. After getting the unit suspended on 2 bolts, I was able to center the hitch side to side, install
the last 2 bolts and use the jacks to raise the hitch firmly to the car frame so I could snug the boltsup. I used a short piece of 2x4 to wedge between the muffler and auto frame to give room to get a socket wrench on the last bolt to tighten it. The muffler only needed to be shoved out of the way slightly. No need to remove ot from its hangers. It would be easier to install with a helper but not difficult by myself. No need to cut bumper. Wiring was a challeng only because of difficulty of getting it threaded up the passenger side fender. You need a skinny flexible length of whatever u have to push down thru the fender till it exits below. Then tape your wire harness to it and wrestle it up to the light. I chose to route the power cable thru the car interior and that was a chore. Easier to route under car but more exposed to elements and damage. I found one wire under the dash that penetrated the firewall and was able to punch the power line thru its rubber boot seal with an awl that got the power cable into the engine compartment. The connection to the batter was easy. I recommend this hitch for the DIYer.

by:
2011 KiaSorento

I got it hooked up using the instructions provided in about 3 hours. The instructions had an error stating there is a red wire coming from the module that you are supposed to hook up to the black wire to the battery, but it is a black wire. It works well. As others have stated, remove the spare tire beforehand.

Perfect fit! I just installed today and working so far. I say that because I had installed a curt harness and only lasted a month. Unfortunately I purchased it on ebay and didn't bother trying to contact them. I'm trusting you that if I have problems I can call. Thanks for quick delivery!!

Anthony H.

I had the same problem with the Curt harness. The first one was messed up the second day on the job, and now the second one is bad two months down the line, and I havent even had the trailer connected to it. Im taking the trailer across country in two weeks. Im going to junk the the Curt module, and buy this one. E-trailer has been great, they sent the replacement right away after the first, but Ive had enough, no more Curt products for me. Im not going to try for a 3rd strike. Especially when I know the problem isnt a result of the trailer. The curt modules just dont do it, and even despite the excellent service from E-trailer, I really dont want to have to keep crawling under my Sorento to remove the box every six months!

Put the kit in my 2011 Kia Sorento 6 cylinder standard. very simple to do. Kit was a bit tight when re-installing the tail lights but jiggled some wires and eventually fit great. Make sure to drop the spare tire and get it out of the way. Some reviews said the wires could be longer to the right tail light. I disagree - if you route the wires above the bumper post there is plenty of wire left over on the right side. I used a stiff piece of cable to pull wires and help with routing and worked great. I also used a high lift jack and jack stands to get the car up and made the battery wire install a breeze. Overall an easy kit to install. You will need a wire crimper and stripper and some electrical tape. I used heavier zip ties too rather than the ones in the kit along the frame. All in all seems like a great kit! Thanks!

by:
2012KiaSorento

Item arrived in 4 days. All parts fit as advertised. Hardest part of installation was routing wires through the chasis, as there are some tight spots around the tail lights. While the installation video was helpful, I think some more video under the car for routing the wires would have been helpful. Installation took about two hours because of some trial and error. Overall it was not too hard of an installation. Dealer wanted $575 to install wiring and hitch on my 2012 Sorento. By installing myself, the cost was roughly $240 for the hitch and wiring assembly. The cost difference will pay for the utility trailer I have been looking to buy. Thanks etrailer for a good experience.

by:

I did not have enough wire to connect to the passenger side tail light without more disassembly of my new vehicle than I really wanted to perform. l-added jumper inline with the wiring-potential ground point. Also, in order to allow more room for the installation I made up the butt connector for the battery positive wire before mounting the harness behind the driver's side tail light. Running to the battery was fine, not professional by any means but should work. Maybe some mounts and adhesive would help to make it more professional. Works as described.

2012KiaSorento

I was recommended to purchase the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Item # 118506 for my 2012 Kia Sorento by someone I spoke with at etrailer.com. Everything went smoothly except, unlike in the video, I was unable to attach the module to the inside of the bumper because, when I did, the wires to the right tail light were at least 5-6" too short to reach all the way. I had to detach the module from the inside of the bumper and let it drop as far as as it would go and even then I had to very carefully route the right side wire to get enough wire to connect and replace the right tail light. And even with that it just barely made it. Other than that the product is great.

by:

Lee trailer attachment to put on the bottom of archaea to have it haul items, works wonderfully. Instructions were easy, and it fit exactly like it was supposed to. I was able to put it on myself. The only difficulty came from the nuts being so rested on my car, that I had to clean them out first. Other than that, it was a breeze and attaching the lights electric wires were just as simple. I've had no concerns.

by:
2011 KiaSorento

All worked well but the harness wires to the passenger tail light did not reach. I had to splice additional wire from the old harness. UHaul had to do this same extension with the harness kit they originally installed. There's nothing unique about my Sorento so I'm not sure why this happened twice.

by:

As I mentioned in the remarks concerning the hitch, the wiring installation was straightforward, just follow the instructions. Biggest problem was accessing the bottom of the chassis to run the wire from rear to front while working in my driveway.

by:

Installing the hitch wiring harness took 2.5 hours. It must be routed down behind the tail light assemblies which takes some doing. I found a YouTube video that helped allot. The written instructions could be better. The harness itself could be a little longer from the module to the passenger side tail light. If it's not properly routed under the vehicle it won't reach. Also, the online video instructions differs slightly from the written instructions. Once installed it worked fine.

I've had the wiring harness in my Kia Sorento for a year now and it works flawlessly. It was also very easy to install. Always a big plus. Thanks etrailer.

This is that second hitch and wiring I have installed from terai let. The wiring and hitch went in easily with the instructions provided. Product is of exceptional quality. The only glitch I had with both installations was that I had to rent a thread chaser from the local auto parts store. I would have gladly paid a few extra dollars to have the thread chaser included with the Hidden Hith when I purchased it.

by:

Easy install and transaction. Hides out of view.

by:

the wire coming out of module was not red, but black in color. The detailed instruction to remove push pin from drivers side taillight to accommodate installation of module with provided bracket was bull, because their was no bracket only a cheap piece of 2 sided tape that would not stick to anything. It was obvious after talking with a lady at e trailer that the direction were written either for a previous version of harness or as she stated could have been another manufacture. We call that n.c.p.( non complying part) in the auto industry. The harness did work after installation. Unit came from Mexico.
