Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system.
Features:
Specs:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold, cargo trays, storage covers, and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system.Great product! The harnesses are plug and play. Watch the video for the details, it is extremely helpful. I, however, didn’t really want to get under the car and run the power to the battery. In my 2016, I have a power port in the cargo area and was able to verify with a meter that it has +12V constant. With a little wiring modification I was able to tap into this as the power source and it works beautifully. This might be beyond the skills of others, but you can suggest it to a professional installer as an option.
I also am not crazy about allowing the flat blade receptacle to dangle out the tailgate when in use. I like a more finished look. There is a rubber grommet in the spare tire well specifically for the factory hitch wiring. It is easy to remove. I then sliced it with a utility knife and fit the receptacle through it and out to the hitch, where it is attached with zip ties. I sealed up the grommet to prevent exhaust gas infiltration. Pictures are attached.
I installed a Draw-tote class III and Hopkins wiring. It all went great thanks for the awesome videos you guys post.
Ingenious "plug and play" design. Installation is very easy. The kit contains a generous length of feed (hot) wire and good amount of zip ties. Very good quality.
Tip: Your XC70 may contain a 12V power outlet on the right side near the tailgate. If not, most likely it will have the wiring for it behind the trim, accessible through the taillight access panel. This is always powered through a 15A fuse. Use that for the +12V supply instead of running a wire under the car to the battery!

I know that you found an alternate way to connect to a 12-volt power source however my concern with running to an alternative source is if the correct amount of power is being supplied. The wiring that is ran through the vehicle might not have constant battery direct power or enough amperage for the Hopkins harness. The wiring systems on vehicles as become very delicate and intricate where they now regulate the amount of voltage that runs through certain wires. For this reason, I recommend routing your power wire directly to the battery.

Just like the hitch. Exactly what I nee ded.
E-Trailer has done their homework! This package was perfect and included all needed parts. One change I would make if possible, if the Volvo wagon you have has a 12 volt supply in the cargo area you can trace the wire color from the back of the 12 volt receptacle lower down in the floor area and splice in the 12 volt supply in from that location rather than running a power supply from the battery. Either way the system E Trailer has is fantastic and well thought out. Totally recommend over the cheaper versions on the internet.
Installed on a 2013 Volvo XC70.
Somewhat easy install. Used the video install guide found on the products webpage.
The only problem/issue for me, was the placement of the wire that goes from the rear all the way up to the engine battery. I did not have the vehicle on jacks stands, maybe that would have helped, but I could not fish the wire under the heat shield as shown in the install video. I made my own way avoiding heat sources and moving parts. Um basically I went left after coming out of the spare tire wheel well grommet. You pass under an exhaust but if you zip tie properly and keep it tight it has space away from the exhaust. From there I kept the wire on the driver side all the way up to the engine bay. Working over the rear tire suspension in strategic spots/holes using the provided zip ties to keep the wire tight. Under the rear and front doors I kept the wire near the edge, where the trim meets the frame. Drilled small holes in the plastic trim that meets the frame and used the holes to run zip ties through to secure the wire and keep it from sagging. Once at the front driver tire i came up through the engine bay as shown in the install video. Drilled a small hole in battery box to run the wire through. I did not cut out a notch as shown in the install video, that cut looked hella bad on the install video, just drill a small hole and run it through. After that it was quite easy.
Took me 3 hours, but I did do little sidetracks like vacuum out the spare tire wheel well of dirt and sand.
Great Job by this company and it’s employees. I ordered a trailer wiring kit. About an hour after I had ordered it, I received a message saying it had shipped! The meticulous installation instructions and updates to my shipment were second to none. I received my item in Alaska in two days!! Good Job!
Haven’t installed hitch or wiring yet, but the videos and contact info I received from etrailer are what made me decide to buy their products.
Part arrived fast, fit perfectly
As advertised. Easy install
makes my car BUZZ every 15 seconds....

This sounds like you have a short somewhere. Maybe some insulation was damaged around a wire and you are catching some feedback. Clean your connections and search for some damaged wires potentially.
What impressed me most with the purchase was the high level of customer service. These guys really know what they are talking about!
Custom fit and detailed videos made installation easy
Have use each trailer for many years and many products. Always satisfied. Thanks!

The hitch and wiring kit are working great. Regarding the wiring, I did what Doug in STL recommended for my 2016 Volvo XC.
