Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver And 4-Way Wiring Harness For 2015 Volvo XC70
Question:
I am trying to figure out what parts I need to install a trailer hitch receiver on a 2105 Volvo XC70 non-turbo model. We will be towing a 17 ft sailboat, and we already have the hitch and ball, that will need a 2inch opening in the hitch receiver. Is that a class III? Our trailer has a 4 pin electrical connector. Tongue weight and towing capacity should not be an issue. Both are small compared to the Volvo specs for the XC70. I have heard from my mechanic and the dealer that there is some sort of computer module with the wiring harness, and that Id need to purchase a software upgrade and have the dealer download and install it for $130. Looking at the Volvo OEM hitch receiver, it looks as though there is a massive cut in the bumper cover. Looking at the e-trailer pictures it seems as though other brands require a much smaller cut. What parts do I need?

For your 2015 Volvo XC70, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75916. This trailer hitch receiver is a Class III and has the 2 inch openiing you are looking for. It is a confirmed fit for your vehicle and I've attached a video of this installation for you. It is a square tube design with a black powder coat finish over an e-coat base for superior rust resistance.
For your wiring, I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM11143735. This will quickly connect to your factory wiring with quick connects behind each tail light and be powered directly from your battery.
There is no dealer software download required for this installation and the fascia will require some minimal trimming for the hitch receiver. I've attached videos of each installation to assist you.
Since you already have a compatible ball mount and hitch ball, this is all you need for your application.
