Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

2023 Ford Explorer

Installation was actually more difficult in my Explorer ST Line with B&O Sound System. Rear Bass Speakers covered the Tail Light connection and a lot more needed to be removed. Also, I’m sure that 5 Amps 12 V DC could be picked up from all the wires in the cargo area. And running the power wire up front to the battery could be avoided if a little more engineering was put into the design.

Excellent website, easy to navigate and find products! Super fast shipping and great order and shipping follow up via email. 5 star highly recommend!

It works like a charm. No problems at all. The installation went smoothly and has lasted a year with no issues.

2010 FordTaurus

The day I received the Curt T-Connector vehicle wiring harness I tore into my trunk of my 2010 Ford Taurus SHO to install. Super easy lug and play to each taillight. Two things to do which are to mount a ground then run a power wire from trunk to the front engine bay and connect the 10 amp fuse and attach to battery connection. Only took 45 minutes which I thought was good since this was my first time. Connected 4 pole harness lead to my trailer and everything works great

by:

Works great, easy to install.

by:

Great company! Great service. Knowledgeable customer service. Product arrive a day early, installed in under an hour

by:

Great phone customer service, thank you.

by:

Absolutely the easiest wiring harness to install ever!!! Would recommend this to anyone, even if you have limited mechanical skills it was a breeze, follow the video instructions and its a breeze.

by:

Followed etrailer's [online] install video, took a few hours by myself but it looks and works great!

by:

Works as advertised. I had to do a little more trimming to the bumper cover for clearance than I would have liked, but you still can't see it unless you're poking your head under there to look anyway.

by:
2010 FordTaurus

Looked very intimidating at first. However, it took me about an hour to install harness. Longest part was fishing the power line from trunk, to engine compartment. I would recommend it to everybody.

by:

Very good directions, easy to follow. Everything worked perfect.

by:

Everything fit as expected and install went smoothly.

Installation videos are great. Called sales and they told me the product I needed wasn't available. Contacted tech support and they immediately sent me a part number which was a little odd. As usual, order processed and shipped immediately. Delivery by UPS arrived on time but the package was horribly torn up. Luckily it appears no damage or missing items.

2011FordTaurus

I purchased this hitch for a 2011 Taurus. The price was very resonable.
I'm 73 years old and I installed this by myself in less than 3 hours. The attached directions were very good and it was easy to install. I didn't have to drill any holes. The hitch included everything I needed to install the hitch. I also purchased the electrical kit. It also installed easy with great directions.
I was very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this hitch to anyone needing one.
I use it to pull a 6 x 8 foot trailer and have used it numerous times. It works great.

by:

The quality of the product was better than I expected. It works well and would probably handle almost any trailer lighting configuration. Like the fact that the trailer wiring has little demand on the cars wiring harness. High tech auto lighting easily adapted to old style trailer lighting. Installation took about two hours, mostly do to the routing of the main battery connection. My car was quite low to the ground, a little more room between the car and ground would have been helpful during installation of the main battery connection. Tried routing throw passenger compartment but couldn't find a good opening throw firewall.

by:
Ford Explorer

Installation was easy to follow, directions were spot on. Still working as it should, on a 2020 Ford Explorer ALT. Everything was as described.

by:

It appears to be as described on your web site. I have not installed it yet but your you tube video shows all that is needed. So far, so good

by:

Wiring harness was received as ordered, very easy to install, worked as planned.

2016 FordTaurus

Excellent product. It is well designed and well made. As mentioned in my review of the trailer hitch, I haven't installed this hitch or wiring harness on my new car but I used the same system on my 2010 Taurus several years ago. This product has worked well for several years and it should do the same on my 2016 Taurus.

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring And Brake Controller For A 2023 Ford Explorer XLT
Hey Aaron, If your 2023 Ford Explorer XLT has a factory tow package connector back at the rear of the vehicle then you can use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C55664. If you don't have a factory tow package connector then you'll first need to install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56093. This has connectors that will plug into your tail light wiring and will have one wire to run up to the battery for power. Once installed...

Great it sounds like you are already on the right track here. The Draw tite hidden hitch # DT66GR is a great choice for your 2021 Ford Explorer XLT. Once installed, only the 2" Receiver is visible under the bumper. Once you pull the pin and remove the receiver, you will not even know its there, save for a small square cut out of the underbody panel, which is really not visible to the naked eye. The 2" receiver will be perfect for a jet ski trailer and virtually any bike rack. For your...

The hands-free liftgate may still be functional with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C33NR installed on your 2020 Ford Explorer Limited, but I don't have a way to confirm it at this point in time (Oct 2023). Typically what we see is that the sensors have a harder time picking up foot movement so you'll have to to either side of the receiver. I checked the online owner's manual for your vehicle to see if there were any guidelines or instructions about the 360 camera or parking sensors...

Thanks for the question Roy, and you're not looking at much fascia trimming at all on your 2024 Ford Explorer to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # CU78FR. If you check out the attached photo from the instructions you can see it's just a small 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" section, which you can do with a pair of shears. • Why is a Battery Connection Required for Trailer Wiring Installation on a 2012 ford Taurus
The trailer wiring harness # C56093 and any wiring harness that requires a direct connection to the battery uses battery power to power the trailer lights. If not connected, it will not work and the trailer lights will not come on. Also, this offers another level of protection between the trailer wiring and the vehicle wiring. The idea is that you are isolating the vehicle from the trailer as mush as possible to limit the chances of a short on the trailer damaging the vehicle wiring.
