Hey guys, Connor here at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Curt Custom Embed Fifth Wheel/ Gooseneck Wiring Harness for our 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2,500. Our Curt Wiring Harness here, is going to be an excellent option for our savvy Silverado. It's going to provide the basic trailer lighting functions, as well as the electric brake, reverse, or even auxiliary battery charged circuit for some of our larger trailers.As you can see here, the seven way is located in the bed. So, it's going to be convenient for our Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harnesses, where the siren way might not reach the bumper. As you can see here, we have this nice door, which is going to protect our pins in here from any rust or corrosion and causing any lighting issues.
There's actually a gasket on the inside of the store there. It's going to do a great job, keeping out water and debris.However, I do recommend you apply some dielectric grease to the pins here, just when it's sitting over time to again, help with any rust or corrosion issues. And again, we sell this dielectric grease here at etrailer. We just want to take a little bit here and dab it on the pins. We don't need a whole lot, just cover them.
We can go back with our finger here, just work your way around.Regards to our installation process, this is going to be very simple, definitely something you could do at home by yourself with only very common tools required. There's going to be no wire splicing, because the kit is complete plug and play installation. However, we do need to drill a hole in the bed. We're going to need to get a hole saw. Which again, isn't too uncommon of a tool, you can pick these up at most local stores.Now that we've gone over some of the benefits and features, let's show you how easy it is to install yourself.
To start our installation today, we first want to open the hood on our vehicle and disconnect the negative battery cable. And once we've done that, we can come here to the rear of the vehicle.We can locate our 7-way trailer connector. This is going to be the rear of it. This is actually called a USCAR connector. We want to simply depress this tab right here and pull out.
Just like that. And then, we can take our Curt 7-way Gooseneck/ Fitwell Wiring Harness. We just want to simply replace that with this. So should be able to take. We just want to take this, plug it in until we hear it click. We do want to hear it click and we just want to give it a tug to make sure it locked in place. Now, we can take the other end that we just removed from the trailer connector, we can go ahead and attach it to this. Just match up our ends here, may need to rotate them a little bit, plug it together. And again, if we want to listen for that click, that was a little faint. However, we just give it a tug. We know it's secured in place.Now, we need to find a place to mount the trailer connector, which is going to be on the driver's side in between the tailgate and the rear wheel. So we need to get a good look behind the surface that we're going to be drilling into it. To one, make sure we don't care, see any wires and two make sure we have enough room for our electrical connector. As you can see here, we have an ended portion in the bed here, as well as this raised section. I think we should be able to mount it to either of these two surfaces here, we have plenty of room.Now that we've found a suitable place for our trailer connector, we can come ahead and go up top here and drill our hole. Now we do need to be careful about the stake pocket because it does come down in the bed probably around here. As long as we drill anywhere in between here and here, we should be fine. In order to drill the hole for our trailer connector, we're going to be using a two and a quarter inch hole saw. Now I understand the instructions say to use a two and an eighth inch hole saw. However, we found that it's just too tight of a fit and the locking tabs, don't quite clear that hole so we can easily just go up one drill size. We don't have any issues. We'll just go ahead and get started with our pilot hole.Now that we have our hole drill to the size we need, we can go ahead and take a metal file or a piece of sandpaper, whatever we have on hand and go ahead and smooth these rough edges down. So they don't cut our wires. Anytime we drill into our vehicle, we leave any sort of bare or exposed metal here. We always want to touch it up with some paint, so we don't have any rust issues.We're just using some zip ties here to secure some of the inaudible 00:04:35 harness that we connected earlier. So it doesn't come loose, get tangled around and damage anything. Now we need to Mount our trailer connector, route it up to the hole we just made so we can secure it in the bed. We're just going to use a slot right up here, an opening, to get it up and over this cross member here.And once we do that, we can come around the backside here. This would be hard to see, but just bear with me here. We can pull it and we're going to come down through this hole we have right here, pull the Slack out of it. And once that's there, we're going to go through this hole here. That way we can get on the outside of the frame and inside the fender well. You have a nice little access hole there. Just go ahead and pull it through just like so.Now I have had the inaudible 00:05:27 out here. We're going to go ahead and round it up. We're going to try to fish it through the hole we made in the bed earlier. Now we just want to go ahead and take our USCAR connector and plug it into the back of our 7-way trailer connector.And we do want to line up these little slots here on each side, press it into place. You may or may not hear a click, but then we can just pull back, make sure it's locked. Now that's in place. We can go ahead and run the slack back through the fender well there. And now, we can go ahead and mount our trailer connector, just like, so. We're going to be using the self tapping screws, that came with our kit, and a quarter inch nut driver. I'm going to try to get the trailer connector as straight as possible. The wiring might fight us a little bit. We're just going to run one of our self-tapping screws in, just like that. We'll go ahead and do this for the other three holes.Now we're just going to go ahead and take some of this extra wire loom we have and secure it to the vehicle's existing wiring harness to hold it in place. So we don't have any issues with it coming loose. Now that we have everything installed, we can go ahead and test our wiring. I'm going to start out with our brakes, our left turn signal, right turn signal, and then finally our running lights. 2003 Ford F-250 Super Duty
Connecting to the existing wire harness was straightforward and easy on the other-hand finding a place on the side wall wasn’t easy. I put the plug together and measured and could not find a place with enough space between the inner and outer sheet metal. Maybe there was but I didn’t want to chance it, did not want a hole I couldn’t use. i ended up putting it in the post behind the tail light. I used the round area in the tail light area as a guide (see pic). To get the wire up through from beneath the light I cut a small piece of metal to allow the wire access (see pic). I am very happy with the location where the plug will not be damaged.

Dodge Ram Pickup
I used this cable to replicate 7-pole to the bed of a Ram 2500.
I also have a 4-pole at the bumper and wanted to have all three locations 'hot'.
This cable does not "move" the functionality.
It REPLICATES it, while keeping the 4-pole functional.
7-pole at bumper or 7-pole in bed.
4 pole at bumper.
I used the 120v factory hole because this truck does not have an inverter, nor will I be adding one. The 5th wheel camper has that.
I did have to fabricate an 'adapter' to cover the factory mounting holes, but that was easy and is now a rubberized, waterproof mounting.
All good.

2018 Ram 2500 w/6.5' bed
Quality seems good. Install easy. Works fine if you plan on putting the plug in the back of the bed. Will not reach to the front wheel wells though! Putting in an extension as this is for a slide-in camper.

This harness seemed to be of great quality however after installing and attempting to use for the first time I discovered that it disrupted the signal to my 7 way at the bumper.

Just what I needed. The harness that came with the truck developed a short I couldn’t track down to repair. I got the lovely ding and check trailer brake wiring every time i hit the brakes. That got annoying really quick. Replaced it with this one and it solved my issue. Seems like it’s quality built and will withstand a few Colorado winters. It’s only downside is it comes with like 6 small zip ties to install it. If you’re the least bit OCD and want a clean look grab a dozen large ones from an auto part store.

2022 ram 3500 long bed. Was perfect length if you install it on the rear driver side of bed. In the video i saw of someone installing it they cut the hole then shoved the double connector end of the harness down from the bed. I found it easier to fish a string down the hole and then tie the string to the clip part of the single side of the harness and pull it up. That plug has to go through the hole straight or else it gets caught up and having the string tied to the clip helps pull it up and through the hole straight.

Was a 30 minute install on my Ram 2500. It took longer to raise/lower the spare than anything else. Do yourself a favor and get the shorter one. You don’t need 7’, and I have at least 2’ coiled up.

2022 ChevroletSilverado 2500
This order was for ITEM # C53CR which has the filler plate. The order somehow was changed or substituted for this part which works for the application but without the filler plate.
etrailer sent the filler plate separately and I performed the install which was fairly simple and with the plate installed looks completely like factory. I attached my camper to the bumper connector and all worked, I could not reach the bed connector due to cable length, this was set up for a new 5th Wheel we are purchasing. I am confident that is will work.
I used different wire ties, something a little more substantial than what was provided but that is my choice. Watch the install video, it is fairly straight forward, 30 minutes from start to finish for my install.
4 stars due to the confusion in the order but was eventually straightened away.

Install was very easy, wish it would come with some of that gel you’re suppose to put inside of it. Just needs a little and no need to buy a whole big tube of it. Haven’t used it yet but was everything I needed for my Fords new gooseneck. Didn’t want to plug it in at bottom of bottom of bumper

Super fast install. Great product. I have a 21 Ram crew short bed and the 7’ is the way to go. 35 min install. Tested and works great. Instructions call for a 2-1/8 hole. I was able to use the 2” hole saw and remove and reinstall the grey plastic wire cover from the Y.

Installation was very easy and straightforward. It took about 10 minutes; once the spare tire was out. The hardest part was taking out and putting back in, the spare tire. If you have a 5th gen Ram that didn’t come with a gooseneck plug, there should be a plastic cover where it would be. Pop that out and your hole for the wiring is already there. There will be four small squares in the corner. The plug that is mounted to the firewall has enough clearance, so you can mount it to the bed using the provided self-tapping screws.

2017 Honda Insight
I purchased this unit after reading the reviews. I received both the C56070 and a B&W OEM hitch within a few days of placing my order. Etrailers’s customer service is excellent! The installation of this wiring harness took about twenty minutes including cutting the hole for mounting. Everything but the hole saw was included in the package! I am very pleased with my purchase!

I ordered one from somewhere else that was a different brand and lets just say I was wrong. This one by Curt plugged right in and worked just like it should. since I already had the hole cut it took about 5 minutes to slap it together. Great product and great shipping.

The 7 foot cord was more than adequate. Good quality product. I installed on 2019 Ram 2500 Big Horn.
I will tell you dont even try the install without lowering the spare tire. Even if you are able to fish the wire over (like I did) you will not be able to make the connection to the existing 7 pinn on the bumper. the plug adapter is wired in such a way that you cannot get your hand and the wire in the right orientation. The install of the unit will be less than an hour and probably closer to 30 min.
One last tip, when reinstalling the spare be careful not to push the tire to far to the front there is a thin metal shroud that the tire will rub on and squeak over every little bump. test it before you are done, ask me how I know. LOL

This harness is excellent. It plugged right in and looks like it should last a while. It also included plenty of zip ties and the necessary mounting screws. The hardest part was mustering up the nerves to drill a 2-1/8” hole in the bed of your truck. After drilling the hole, I put touch up paint on the bare metal to prevent rust. I also put silicone sealant in the screw holes, after they were tapped, to seal the metal there too. Install was quick and easy with the right tools; just the hole saw and a drill driver with the appropriate socket for the mounting screws.

As usual the ordering at etrailer.com was fast and easy. Shipment was fast and delivered on time. The 7way extension for gooseneck was as advertised. The toughest part of installation was feeding the end of the wiring harness through the post channel. Had one of these on my previous truck and missed it on my new truck.
