Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

I went ahead and bought a trailer light kit from them for my 5x8 trailer. Shipping was very quick. I’d give them a sixth star just for that if I could.
Received item just a little after the noon hour and had installed (solo) and wiring harness finished before 5 pm the same day. Everything fit and works perfectly. Had been contemplating a trailer hitch for my old 1997 Toyota RAV4 for awhile but thought it would cost too much. This set up was perfect and much less than I expected or was willing to pay.
Still working great a year later!
Have since sold the Vehicle I put this harness on. But used it to pull a trailer on a camping trip and it worked good. Had to extend the back tail light Wire because there wasn’t enough wire so that’s my only complaint. Other than that it worked great
Installed easily. Would have been nice if yellow lead was longer to allow for a better placement of receiver box for longer lead to trailer. Also, not sure if it’s my vehicle (1999 Toyota RAV4) or the cables, but the hazards and most lighting can’t be seen without the car’s engine on.
etrailer was great with fast shipping and accuracy with order.
I ordered this wiring kit with a hitch for my 97 Toyota RAV4. Super easy plug n play setup. Took me about 20 minutes but most of that time was taking out screws. No cutting and taping anything which made it super easy!!!
The wiring harness was easy to install. It works great when I pull my jet ski trailer.
Seams fine and does the job, but taking off 2 stars because the wiring for the left side is too short to route under the plastic step plate and instead would need to go unprotected under the rear carpet.
Fit and finish are perfect. 10 minutes for hitch installation! Trusted seller. Now on to the wiring harness. :-)
This was the perfect replacement part for my 1998 Rav4 and was easy to install.
It works great!
Glad I went with etrailer. Well thought out. Good company

Works fine. A good choice
The only way to install trailer hook up in any vehicle!
Plug and play!
Too short to use properly on a 1997 rav 4. Ultimately the wire does reach across from passenger to driver side, but I found that it needed to be 3-4” longer. Definitely still usable, but a few more inches would be very helpful.
Very easy installation. Start to finish 90 minutes. Works flawlessly.
worked great no cutting plug and play lights as easy as 123.
Very well packaged, fast shipping, everything worked perfectly once I figured out what I was doing wrong. Very happy with this product and the service.
Good product. Fairly easy install. Than ks.
Couldn't b any simpler. Appears to be high quality.
Fit perfect!
Great

Great, once I figured out that my vehicle would not power standard lights. Switched to LED and everything worked out fine.
