Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Kelsey was a great help. Courteous and knowledgeable. I haven’t installed the part yet, but have no reason to believe everything will work. Will come back for my trailers camper needs.

Easy to install. Works great.

First of all, I initially ordered the wrong item and reached out to etrailer. I spoke to Will S. in Customer service, who could not have been more professional, courteous and helpful. In the past few years, most corporate customer service has been horrible, but not at etrailer, it was exceptional. Will S. is an asset to the organization and I will be using etrailer in the future simply because of the experience I had correcting my own mistake. Thank you Will.

Regarding the setup, it was a bit more difficult than I thought it would be. The reviews said a simple setup, but the definition of simple is subjective.

A few months ago, I ordered a receiver and wiring harness for my Subaru CrossTrek the reviews said installing the harness was 'simple'. I didn't believe it, but when I installed the harness, the wiring process involved simply plugging in the harness. (Just plug the harness into the factory plug behind the rear seat). Yes I had to lift the carpet a bit to find the plug, but that was it.

This harness for my Ford Bronco, involved disconnecting the tail lights and inserting the harness plug mid-stream between the separated connectors. This was not too bad, but the installation also required running a power line to the battery.

Fortunately, the Bronco has powered Aux switches, so I ran the wire to the number 6 Aux connection and it worked great. Then I spent the next hour shimmying under the vehicle to thread the power line through and tie-wrap it to other wires under the vehicle.

So, yes the installation is simple. However, as stated previously, simple is a subjective word.

Yep, it really depends on the vehicles wiring as to how simple the installation will be. I appreciate a good shortcut however I need to say that actually running the power wire to the battery is the best bet. Wiring it to anywhere else may damage the vehicle wiring as it could overload it. I have a helpful FAQ for tips on running the wire to the battery.

by:

Product was for LED Broncos, mine is a Base. Had to have a trailer shop swap wires in the harness. Worked for a while and now one brake light on the Bronco is out. Ripping this out and getting the proper Ford harness.

by:

Really easy to install, on the bronco I ran it behind the paneling and use the 12v outlet for power. The wiring stored in the jack compartment. It’s a cleaner install than putting everything under the car.

by:

It was straight forward and functional.

by:

Great product and service. Thank you

This wiring harness was a piece of sh@t! If it wasn’t for the guy on the [onllne] channel “Budget Bronco” I never would of gotten this thing to work. Watch the video!

I recommend watching the video review that we have in the link below.

by:

The OEM kit requires tapping into existing wires which increases risk of corrosion. This kit taps into existing connectors to alleviate that risk. I did modify it so it fits the OE hitch to look like it was factory installed. It was easy to install, works perfect, and eTrailer was great with the order and shipping, too.

by:

Installed on a customers vehicle. No right rear turn signal was my reward. Made me look like a fool when I said sorry but I have to call the company and you’ll have to bring your brand new Bronco back again. After speaking with a rep who was helpful she read the reviews and was like yeah sorry some of them are wired wrong. I’d pay 2 3 4 times as much for a quality part that lasted is a 60k dollar ride.

by:

The wiring harness worked, I put the other harness on and no left or right

lights, this c42wr did the job. thanks
the other items have not installed yet next project

by:

Wiring worked perfect. Installed in a couple hours and towed it home.

Very easy to install.

2021 Ford Bronco

2021 bronco. Great quality but… the passenger taillight plugs had the wiring wrong. I found that the right blinker wasn’t working because of the way they had the pins pushed into the plugs in the wrong location. They had the pin for turn signal in a part of the plug that didn’t go to anything on the vehicle side. The green wire should have been where the white wire with black mark is. I was able to pull the plugs apart and move the pins into the correct locations. CURT NEEDS TO FIX THIS.
And maybe it was only the one I received.

It could be possible you purchased the wrong harnesss. The Curt # C42WR you purchased is for 2022 Ford Bronco models with LED taillights. If you do NOT have LED taillights, youd need part # C87BR instead.

I have a 22 Bronco, wiring harness arrived 2 days early. So easy to install, finished in about an hour. Everything functions as it is suppose to. Excellent product, excellent customer service response getting harness out in the mail. Recommend to all.
