Video Transcript for Review of AceCamp Hiking and Backpacking Accessories - Shovel Multi-Tool - 3772586

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and today we're taking a look at the AceCamp Survivor Multi-Tool shovel. This is designed to replace several different items in your emergency kit pack or your backpack as you're traveling and hiking around the world. It has a couple of loops here so you can easily tie that off to your pack, have it running through your belt loop maybe, and be readily available for any kind of emergency or outdoorsman use. Now, if I'm really honest about this tool, do I think it's going to save your life in an emergency Maybe, but as far as everyday use, it's probably not going to be something that you would utilize all the time. It looks pretty nice, but the multifunctions, we'll run through those real quick. We've got our saw edge, our hatchet edge, a nail puller, which is this little cutout here, then a couple of tools back here, a wrench, we'll have two different sizes there, a bottle opener, and a hammer. We also have a compass on the end and a little secret compartment on the inside that will house a few more items.

We'll have a little box of accessories inside here. We'll have some fishing line, a few fishing hooks and weights, a small razor knife, and two nails.Again, it's something to have it in an emergency. I think you can definitely get some use out of it there. It could end up saving your life, but as far as, again, everyday use, all of this stuff is kind of flimsy for lack of a better word. This knife, you would probably be able to cut thread with it, but not much else.

The handle's pretty slender. I mean, this isn't something that's going to be super high quality. I think if I was an 11 year old kid and somebody gave this to me for Christmas, I would be stoked because it's got all this stuff that I could have a little adventure with, but I just look at this and see that saw-toothed edge, and if you didn't grind that down, I don't think there's going to be much chance that you're really going to be able to saw through much with that, just because of the way the powder coat is over that. Then with the hatchet edge, without actually testing it I can't say for sure, but I just feel like that's going to bend as soon as you give this a good whack, same thing for this hammer portion. Again, I could be wrong, but as soon as you give a nice solid whack to that, if you're trying to hack through any kind of log, you probably will have some trouble with it. The compass as well, does point north, but sometimes it kind of sticks in its little bubble here, so you kind of have to encourage it to get the right bearing on it.It's definitely a fun, cool toy for a kid, something that could be really useful in those emergency situations, but definitely not something that's going to give you everyday use to alleviate some weight issues in your pack.

If you're going to be going outdoors all the time and you need to rely on any one of those individual tools day in and day out, I would definitely get something that's up to the task, like an actual hatchet, a saw, or something that's going to be more robust for you.I'm going to put everything back together, and then we'll go over some measurements just so you can see what kind of size this little guy takes up. It is very compact. It is lightweight, something to have in your glove compartment or in your pack just for those emergency situations. I think it definitely will do the job there. It's about 12 and a quarter inches long overall and about four and a half inches wide roughly.

The thickest part of that handle is about one and three eighths inch thick.Again, we'll have our little cover here. It keeps it protected and also gives us an easy way to attach this to a belt loop, our strap on a backpack, or anything like that. It does just weigh a pound, so again, pretty lightweight, but all in all, it's kind of up to you on what you're going to be using this for. I hope this video has been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right tool for you. If you need any other accessories, we do have a lot of other options from AceCamp and others here at etrailer.com to make your adventure a little bit more fun and a little bit more safe. Thanks for watching, and we'll see you next time.
