This alarmed locking cable will deter most thieves looking to make a quick snag. We were all a little jumpy while getting to know this product because the alarm is, well, alarming! The sound in our review video doesn't do the Scream'n Demon alarm justice, but at 110 decibels, it's about the equivalent of standing 3' away from a sounding car horn. It's loud enough that we wore earplugs while working with it!

Setting and Deactivating the Scream'n Demon Alarm

Set the Scream'n Demon alarm

When you're ready to lock the Thex Super Chain, be sure to insert the key first. The key has to be in the cylinder when you pop in the locking pin.

Set the Scream'n Demon alarm

If you want to set the Scream'n Demon alarm when you're locking down your gear, push the alarm button before you insert the locking pin. The alarm will beep twice to let you know it's armed and active, and you will then have 22 seconds to insert the chain's pin and remove the key.

Once the lock is armed and 22 seconds have passed, the alarm will go into guard mode. If the chain gets bumped, you'll hear a warning beep. If it's bumped or moved again within 20 seconds, the alarm will sound for 15 seconds before going back into a waiting state.

You can also use this chain lock without the alarm - just insert the pin and remove the key without pressing the alarm button.

Video Transcript for Review of Trimax Locks Cable Locks - Chain Lock with Alarm - TMX87ZR

Hi, there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Trimax Thex Chain Lock with Alarm. Now, this is a three foot long hardened steel chain with an integrated alarm that's going to allow you to easily secure your gear to your bike rack, roof rack, or other application. The alarm will alert you to any movement or tampering. So, bring your attention to the fact that someone is messing with your lock here.

The volume is going to depend on how much power you have in the batteries. When I tested it a moment ago, it was about 80 decibels, which is about the volume of a garbage disposal or a food blender. They say it is capable of over 110 decibels which is about the volume of a jackhammer or a power saw. So, definitely enough to get your attention and to scare away any potential thief. This does have this 3/8 inch thick hexagon-shaped triple heat-treated hardened steel chain.

So, it is going to be very cut-resistant chain withstands over six tons of pull force and 11 tons of cutting force. So, it is gonna be very secure for you. You can see it does have this durable nylon sleeve around it. That's gonna help protect your equipment from rubbing up against that chain. On the lock itself, we are going to have this slide keyhole cover to help protect our lock core from dirt and debris and that sort of thing.

So, we can easily cover that up when we're all locked up. To operate this, you are going to use one of the three included keys. Just give it a simple twist. Now, you don't have to use the alarm setting. This will work without that to secure your gear.

But if you do wanna use the alarm setting, you'll start in the unlocked position, press this button, and a double sound will alarm you, or let you know how full your batteries are, the volume level you can expect. And then that higher pitch noise lets you know that it is engaged in the alarm waiting state. So, then you have about 22 seconds to lock it up. It is going to give you that time to make sure everything's adjusted. And then if it's bumped within 20 seconds, it is going to set off that alarm. That alarm will last for about 15 seconds and then it will stop. Then if it's bumped again within 20 seconds, it will sound again. If it's not bumped for 20 seconds it will go into an alarm resting state, so that it's not using up your batteries as much. And then if it's bumped again, it will jump back up into that alarm waiting state. So, it's ready to set off the alarm if someone is tampering with it. Now, my microphone is compressing that sound quite a bit. So, that might not have sounded very loud to you, but again, depending on your battery level it can be up to 110 decibels. So, we'll be very loud and help to scare off anyone that's potentially trying to steal your stuff. And this is going to come with these three keys. This third key here does have a blue light on it. That's going to allow you to see, if you're trying to find your keyhole in the dark. And they're also going to include two batteries here for you. Pretty simple to get those batteries switched out, so that you can make sure that you have plenty of volume to protect your stuff. So overall, really nice system here, both physically and to protect, but then also with that alarm there to help alert you and to scare off any would be thieves. That completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

I guess it’s ok but I would not buy another one.

t seems like you are not overly happy with the lock. I wanted to see if could tell me more about why you would not want to buy another one in the future?

The screws to get into the battery compartment were tight and striped and almost impossible to get out. The door for replacing doesn’t snap securely in place. The spring mechanism on the door slung off. No glue. Lucky I found it. Just a poorly made product for those reasons only. Oh, why would the seller only use 3 feet of chain. Should have been a foot or two longer.

I recommend a combination lock like part # 8122D in the future. It has a combination that you will set for it and it is a longer chain.

  • Is There a Lock For Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Rack
While there isn't a specific lock, what you can do is add a cable lock to secure the Rhino-Rack Universal Pioneer Platform Rack for Crossbars # RR42114BF. You can wrap the cable lock through the Pioneer # RR43164B and around your crossbars or raised side rails if your vehicle has them, which will add security. I recommend going with the Trimax Thex Super Chain Lock # TMX87ZR. This will add an extra layer of security for you to protect the investment you made in the Pioneer. In regards...
