Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this OptiMate 2. It's a four-step, AC to DC, 12 volt smart battery charger and maintainer. Now, this is a nice compact smart charger. It'll draw power from an AC wall outlet to automatically charge and maintain batteries on your cars, trucks, motorcycles, RV, golf carts, and even boats.
This is designed to work with 12 volt standard AGM and gel lead-acid batteries. Does offer multiple battery profiles and lets you charge a variety of lead-acid battery types at different voltages. This does have a four-step charging algorithm, which will automatically charge and maintain without overcharging. Basically, this will analyze your battery condition to provide a customized charge. And it does maintain the battery at 100% to extend battery life and improve performance.
Now, there's two ways of connecting it to the battery. They give you the battery clamps here which are the quick, easiest way to connect to your battery. Just clamp them onto the post. And then you plug this SAE connector into this on the charger. Overall length on this is about 20 inches.
The other connection you can do is a little more permanent connection, it's the eyelet connection. This will let you make a secure connection to your battery terminals. It even includes an inline 15 amp fuse to protect your electronics from potential short circuits. And what's even nice, it has this SAE connector and because it's used permanently, it does offer a weatherproof seal on it, and even a dust cover to put over it to keep out dirt and water. Other nice thing, if you look closely, there's two cuts or openings on the side here.
That's actually, you could put a zip tie through that if you wanna permanently attach it. Allows you to easily fasten it to the vehicle by putting a zip tie through there. And again, the length on this cord is the same 20 inches. Now, this is a very simple operation. Uses LED lights that'll indicate the charging status. You can see it is in a nice durable weatherproof case. Has two wall mounts at the bottom, two at the top here. Does come with a six foot AC supply lead, and a six foot charge lead with the SAE connector. Also, what's nice, it does come with this book of instructions. But if you don't have the instructions handy, there's a QR code that's on the charger itself. You could scan that and they'll even pull up the instructions for you. Few specs on this, it's for 12 volt batteries from three to 160 amp hours. The battery types, again, it supports is standard AGM and gel. And the maximum charging amperage is 12 volts at .8 amps. Both started after five months of storage. Next trip I will use all three to ensure all my vehicles are ready to go upon returning.
