Replaced the original parts. These work very well. The velcro strap is a better choice than the original rubber straps. The cradle slides on the bars and will move during transport. Using a bungie strap to hold the front wheel and bike frame against the upright post keeps the bike in place.
Adding this simple (and inexpensive) change to my Rhode Gear bike carrier was a great way to continue using it without buying an entirely new one. Over the years the foam protectors on the extension bars wore off and I was using pool noodles to protect the bikes. In just a matter of minutes I had the new cradles on and have used them numerous times already. Works good and is a simpler, quicker way to attach the bikes.
Almost Great. Was amazed I could find a replacement part for my 15 year old bike rack which had gone out of business. But etrailer had it. I would give them 5 stars for having the correct item number, having it in stock and for their quick shipping. But unfortunately for me, my bike rack was so old that the company had modified the part. The new has an inside hole opening of 1 inch; my old had an opening of 1-1/8 inch and initially the part would not work. I eventually was able to enlarge the hole and was able to use the parts and bring my great, but old bike rack back to life. See photos of original vs new.
I do not blame etrailer for this as changes had been made and was very happy they at least had a part I could use.
I bought my Rhode Gear Super Shuttle bike trunk rack in 1996 and a retaining tab on one of the control blocks finally broke off. This let my bike "sail" in the air and fly all around. This replacement cradle gave my rack some new life, and works better and easier than the original. I've attached some pictures of the old and new.
My issue is the cradles seem to be very old stock as rubber is rock hard. I’d like to return them.

Yeah, the rubber in these cradles is a hard rubber. I can have return instructions sent to you. Are you just having trouble installing them on the bike rack. Have you tried using dish soap to help slide them on?
They are an exact replacement for my old Rhodes Gear bike rack. I've had it so long the old craddles died of sun rot.

I have an older Rhode Gear hitch mount bike rack that used a rigid plastic retaining system, these were worn out with the retaining tab gone.
I found these replacement retainers that are a far better design and replaced my original retainers with no issues.
Great product, rack is now usable again.
The original cradles on my Hollywood rack were rather loose. Their redesign fixed that. Just be prepared to

Works as it should. My little Rhode Gear bike rack is an economical alternative to a big, expensive rack, and it has been worthy of owning. These rubber parts hold the bike on the rack. They were lost during a move, so I ordered one set (of two) although two sets will fit on the rack. If only one bike is loaded, it tends to turn diagonally to the back of the car, but no harm is done.
product was new, just as described, and it arrived quickly and well packaged. fits perfectly on my old-school Rhode rack.

Have ordered often from etrailer.com and, as usual, quickly received exactly what I ordered. Great site for far more than just trailer items. The Replacement Cradle for Rhode Gear bike rack was a very difficult to find item. Of course, I should have looked first at etrailer.com. Highly recommend this site.
These cradles completely re-vamped my old Rhodes Gear shuttle rack, and were a great upgrade to the original straps. The cradles were easy to install, and provide a solid, snug fit around the frame. With two bikes, there was no lateral rocking on the rack. Also, the service from George at etrailer was great, with really fast shipping! I would definitely recommend this product and eTrailer to others.
Have an old Rhode Gear hitch-mounted bike carrier with worn out bike cradles. The rubber was just too old and brittle. I thought I would have to buy a new rack but other than the cradles, its fine. Too many things in landfills anyhow-not to mention saving some serious change. Loved the website-very informative, easy to navigate. The parts arrived quickly, and were very reasonably priced. Will definitely return in future.
These fixtures are awesome. They replace some worn out plastic straps that had split apart. These new ones are very adaptable to whatever type or size of bike that I am carrying. The Velcro straps hold the bike frame in a secure position. Worth every dollar paid. Highly recommend.

Still fine!
Tricky to get on my old beat up bike rack with 1inch diameter bars, but with a little elbow grease and windex for lubricant it went on and works great. Holds the bike stable and is much easier to use than bungy straps for sure.
Great replacement part and fits my 15 year old Rhode Gear Bike rack perfectly. Sizing information on Etrailer allowed me to order the correct size. Price and shipping very reasonable.
Great replacement for my "very old" Rhodes trailer mount bike rack. Smaller, easier to work with thighs framed bikes.
Excellent replacement cradle. Smaller than the originals, so maybe they will fit between the tire and frame easier.

Doing fine after 1 year of service. We use them almost every weekend.
Replacement bike rack cradle is actually better than the original as the straps are far stronger. Perfect fit on my Rhode Gear rack.
The product we received looked totally different from the original and I was concerned about whether they would work on our old bike rack. To my surprise, they worked perfectly and the design is a remarkable improvement. A perfect replacement part.

This replacement cradle is not a match for the one I had that broke, but it works great and gives an additional option of how to attach the bike to the rack. I like it.
