Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the JR Products, LED dimmer rocker switch. This is going to come in either black or white. It doesn't come with both, I just wanted you to see that these are going to be the same for our functions. As far as the dimmer switch, that rocker switch size, everything is the same, just one comes in white, one comes in black.

These are going to help us get our lights dimmed, turned on, we'll have a nice little control for those. It works with 12 volt lights, and it also is approved for LEDs. So we won't have to worry about damaging them or causing any issues.I have a 12 volt LED light that I'm going to bring in here and connect to my black controller. Again, there's no difference between these, they're going to work the same way. We'll have our black wire going to ground.

I'm going to connect that up with my ground wire from my light and make those two connections. I'm doing this quickly to show you the connections there and then my white wire is going to go to the power wire from my light. I'm going to connect those with the wire nut, just for convenience. Then our last wire is going to be the red wire and that goes to our 12 volt power source. Connect that up.I'm going to turn on my power at my power source and now I can control my lights.

As you can see the light isn't on yet, that's because my rocker switch has turned off. Flip that on, and now my light comes on. By adjusting my dimmer switch, you can see, it can brighten and dim that light as I want. I'm going to turn off the lights in the studio so you can get a better idea of that gradient for our light there.This is at full brightness. This light isn't terribly bright, but I just wanted to give you an idea of how much adjustment we have.

My camera's not too fond of focusing in the dark there, but as I brighten this up, it does go gradually, until we get to that full brightness. Okay, now that you've seen that, turn the lights back on, we can go over some more specs.So pretty easy as far as the electrical goes, we'll just have those three wires to worry about. So again, turn everything off. Our white wire connects to the power wire on our light. Black wire goes to ground. Red wire goes to power from our RV or wherever we're hooking this up to. Again, our switches are compatible with 12 volt power. So it'll work for marine applications on our boat, maybe a tiny house, whatever you're installing this on, it's got that 12 volt power source.As far as the size, our switch outer dimensions here, it's about three inches wide by about two and seven eighths inches tall. The switch comes away from the mounting surface by about three quarters of an inch, going to the top of that rocker switch. The cut-out that we need to fit this into is going to be about two inches and a quarter by about one and three quarter inches. Of course, you do want to give yourself a little bit more room here, so our wires can go down because they do come down from our box rather than back. You'll need a little bit more room to allow for those wires to come away and we'll have about five inches of lead coming off of our control box.These are made to function even in extreme temperatures and protect you against any kind of voltage spikes. We shouldn't have to worry about any damage to our lights or our system. Again, we'll have the on and off, the dimmer switch to adjust those lights gradually.
