Today we're going to take a quick look at the replacement tail clamp assembly for Extang, Solid Fold and Trifecta tonneau covers. This is going to be that retracting clamp for your tonneau cover, it's going to replace that tail clamp assembly so that's going to be the one towards the back on your Extang Solid Fold, the Fold 2.0 or the Trifecta truck bed covers. It's going to just easily install onto your system by clamping on there. So, you'll see we'll have our spring inside to give us the tension that we need to get our clamp tightened down. Now, for the 1999 and newer Ford Super Duty's you will need a different clamp, that'll be the EX1042 replacement tail clamp. You can also find that here at etrailer.com. One last thing I wanted to mention about this is that it's made in the USA and as far as our dimensions, it's going to be about 6 1/2" overall, about 1 3/4 " wide, and going to the top of that clamp there is going to be about 1 1/2" tall. That's going to do it for our quick look at the replacement tail clamp assembly for Extang, Solid Fold and Trifecta tonneau covers..

The replacement spring latch, P/N1035, is the exact replacement part. Unfortunately, these latches are mounted into the rail assemble during the Solid Fold 2.0 assembly. Once in place you cannot replace it without considerable time and expense. This assumes your cover is out of warranty as my 11 years old cover.
The photos below show an original clamp and a newly installed replacement clamp. The original has the rubber pad in place and the replacement does not.
To facilitate the install I determined that a portion of the rail must be removed. The clamp rides inside the rail on guides which after removing the retaining block became fully visible. I marked the width of the circular retainers on the clamp onto the rail and using a high speed Dremel tool cut the aluminum rail to a width and length that allowed the replacement spring clamp to be inserted. Once the retaining block was reattached it locked the clamp onto position.
This process removed about 0.5 inches length and 0.125 inch width from both sides of the aluminum rail. The replacement photo shows about 0.0825 inch (1/16) of the cutout remains uncovered but this gap doesn't interfere in operation or function of the spring latch.
This fix cost $10. My local Extang installer thought his tech would take 2 to 3 hours to disassemble the cover and install the new part. Cost estimate $250.
If you look close it's not pretty, but it works just fine.

great, a very solid part, perfect for the job. An exact fit

by:

Exactly what I needed. No issues with the part but I have the older Solid Trifold and installation required cutting the aluminum channel. Easy to do with the right tool, a Dremel and a cut off wheel and only took a couple of minutes...but it would be impossible to replace with some way of cutting the channel. The newer models are pre-cut so no special tools, other than a screwdriver, are required for installation.

Item was exactly what I was looking for.
Fast
and efficient delivery!

These lock downs are the older style that work 100% better than the newer style. Best of all east swap out. I love them!

This was exactly the part I required for my tonneau cover. The problem I encountered was installing it. There seems to be no way of inserting it into the tract without forcing it. I ended up breaking it unfortunately. However, if there is a way of installing it which I overlooked, this is the correct part.

For the SolidFold 2.0, there is a door at the end of the channel that can be removed, similar to the way a battery cover on a tv remote can be removed, and then the old clamp can be removed and the new one installed. For covers like the original Solid Fold and Trifecta that have a metal channel that span the width of the cover, an access spot will need to be opened up in the middle of the channel. Extang recommends covering a 6 inch section with masking tape and marking a 1 inch wide slot on both sides. Using something such as a dremel or tin snips, remove the marked section of the track edge to notch out an access point. With the section of track edge removed, the old clamp can be removed and the new one installed.

Exactly what I needed. Arrived in decent time even though it was cross border!

I searched quite a while to find this part for my Gator soft cover for my 2017 Ford F150 with the 6.5 foot bed. I didn't want to have to spend a bunch of time on the phone with the Manufacturer trying to explain what I needed since they didn't have this part listed on their website. I did an internet for a "Gator soft cover hold down clamp" and this item from etrailer came up first. At first I disregarded it because no where on the site did they mention that it would replace my broken clamp. As I continued to research, I kept getting the part listed first in my searched. After a fair amount of time I finally looked closer at this part and discovered that it looked exactly like the part I needed. I decided to take a chance and order it hoping that it would work. It arrived seven days later and I found it to be an exact match for my broken part. Took me a short time to install the new one and it works great. I would suggest that etrailer add to their description that it will fit the Gator Soft covers that fit my vehicle at least. Thanks for having what I needed.

It was easy to install, the ones before came off when tonneau cover pop off on the interstate. So I'd replaced them. I'm in the process of repairing the cover.

continues to work well, no issues

Replaced the Tail Clamp that broke off of my SolidFold on my 2013 Toyota Tundra (Item#EX1035). Exact replacement. No directions so you will need to remove the foam piece on the end of the track to get to the two small phillips screws that hold the clamp in place. Then you’ll need to break off the two long pieces attached to the rolling piece, I believe they are on there for shipping only and no instructions tell you to break them off but you have to. Then, I had to use a rubber mallet and a long flat head screwdriver to rock it into position slowly without stripping the clamp by placing the grooves of the roller under the track. First on the side without the extra cutout groove in the track then very slowly into the other side of the track in a slow rock back and forth until both sides are under the grooves of the track without stripping the groves. Lastly, reinstall the plate over the track with the screws, and reattach the foam cover with sticky adhesive.

Excellent experience. Was able to navigate and source a broken clamp assembly for my tonneau cover. The on-line experience was professional. Extremely impressed on the quick fulfilment, email correspondence and tracking provided for a small dollar item. The order was also tracked by etrailer and I received a follow-up email confirming delivery (which was accurate). The part is correct for the tonneau. A very happy Canadian customer. Highly recommend.

by:

it works great. it would be great if there was instructions on how to install it.

I still like the cover, it has held up well. one thing I had to do was replace both of the hold downs. they did not hold up and after tightening then they still came loose as I was going down the road.

by:

The replacement tail clamps are just great and fixed my problem with my tonneau cover. Shipping was fast. My whole experience has been great.

by:

A little challenging to replace but got it figured out without breaking anything lol

by:

Worked great. No issues after a year
