Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2016 Nissan Frontier C55441

Today on 2016 Nissan Frontier, we're going to show you how to install the Curt T-Connector vehicle wiring harness for factory tow packages offering the 4-pole flat trailer connector. Part number is C55441. Now to determine whether we have a factory tow package or we don't have a factory tow package, it's really easy way to figure that out. What we want to do is turn on our headlights, then we'll head under the rear of the vehicle. We're going to come to the underside of the vehicle on the driver's side frame rail here. We're going to see a black plug and a gray plug.

We want to remove the cap that's over the end of the gray plug. Just press down on this tab right here and then slide it out like that. Now we're going to use a test light. Just want to ground off to a part of a body. Now we use our test light and we're going to test each of our connectors here and that's the signal we're looking for.

Closest to the outside of the vehicle and closest to the rear, if we have that signal, all we'll need is our plug. What I'm going to do is just kind of route my 4-pole right in the end of the frame rail there, come out of the side. That's going to just give us a little bit of support. We'll take our plug and it goes right into our gray plug just like that. We can round it up right behind our bumper and you'll see here we'll just take the provided dust cover, slide it around the end and place our cap bar, just like that. That'll keep it up and out of the way.

We could do a zip tie right around the hitch here, kind of keep everything nice and tidy, up and secure. Now all we'll have to do is pull down our wiring. Let's test it out and make sure it's working as it should be. We're just going to use a little tester here. We'll start by turning on our headlights. That'll turn on our running lights and we'll want to see that constant signal.

Now our left blinker, our right blinker and now our brakes. With everything working properly, that completes our installation of the Curt T-Connector vehicle wiring harness for factory tow package, part number C554411 on our 2016 Nissan Frontier.

This is the second hitch that I've purchased from etrailer. Installation is much easier with an air impact. It is my opinion a great product.

After years of fighting with my 7 pole factory connector I decided to change to a 4 pole connection. I asked Etrailer a few questions and they confirmed this would fit my OEM set up. They provided detailed instructions and actual pictures of my vehicles point of connection. This product works great and I now longer have trailer light issues. Highly recommended.

Great, never any problems

This is my second harness. The first one lasted 4 years when the running lights connection stopped working. I assumed the wire got damaged some where but I couldn't find where the issue was. It was just easier to get a new harness since it's not expensive and real easy to install. I ended up having to use some of my own zip ties since the ones that come with it are short.

Hi Dave. This is the first time that i install a Hitch on my 2008 xterra. I install the hitch and the OEM 4-pole flat connector. Do i need to install the 3 relays harness for the the tow to function properly. what does the job of the 3 releys?

David

Still working just fine.

The product still works flawlessly.

by:

helpfull and knowledgeable staff made buying correct all the correct parts a snap.
curt hitch fit nicely.
wiring harness was a snap to install
my 12 year old granddaughter and i installed wiring, hitch and ball in about 45 mins.

by:

Exact fit to my Nissan Frontier. Good quality of materials, length and accessories. Good price. Easy to order. Good information on order status. The biggest problem encountered was with the micro-small, difficult to see retainer clip on the Nissan designed connector cover. I eventually got it off but I had to review a YouTube video several times with stop action and zoom. I was close to using a grinder and slow burning the pieces over a fire.

by:

Hidden hitch and Curt T Connector wiring harness was a simple install on my new Frontier Pro-4x and saved me a good amount of money compared to Dealership install.Quick service, thanks etrailer.

by:

Product is great & came fairly quickly but unfortunately its the wrong connection. The one I originally ordered was not immediately available. A very pleasant gal from customer service called to let me know & said I could wait or I could go with a cheaper version that was also for my Nissan Frontier 2005. This product as a substitution has 4 wires instead of 5, and 1 connector instead of 2. Not going to work.

by:

I just bought this wiring harness for my 06 nissan frontier,I had watched a video of the installation and it worked just like the video showed,it fit perfectly and the installation only took 10 min.I am very satisfied with the product and the service.

by:

Great Product, it was plug and play (very easy to install) and it has been working great for about a year with no problems.

Still working great.

by:

works great, i actually had a hard time finding out if this was the specific part for my truck from other places but the operator at etrailer assured me this was the part I needed and it was, its been working great

by:

plug and play install, took 30 mins. to bolt it together. this would be my third hitch great product, great service. thanks. again.

by:

It was so easy to put on, I thought I must have made a mistake. I put tie-wraps on original wiring, not hitch, and they were plenty long enough.

by:

quality product great service easy instructions i will definetly recomend this company for any trailer needs to all my friends they were great the shipping came in fast thank you very much etrailer.com

by:

Easy to use. These are the 3rd and 4th harnesses that I have bought. I keep extras around because they do get to a point when they can no longer be cleaned. My harness is on the exterior at the ball.

I'm happy with the quality and ease of use.

by:

easy install ! The hardest part was getting the plug cap off the factory wiring harness.

by:

Great quick t-connector, however it lasted 2.5 years. All terminals worked except the ground. Maybe a short?
Ended up buying a new onet since they are inexpensive.

by:

This is my second time ordering from E Trailer.
I normally don't write reviews, but the service and delivery
Are fantastic!

by:

Totally easy harness to hook trailer li ghts

by:

This product would be very handy.
I
happened to order the wrong part but the ease of installing per instructions are real easy to follow

by:

Easy to install, zip ties could be longer, so I had to use my own. Installed in under 5 minutes. Highly recommended.

Great merchandise and when I had questions the person that answered the phone gave me all the information I needed. Highly recommend.

I bought this for a friends truck and it has worked very well for the entire time we have had it, and continues to be a great value.

No problem. Fits perfect, 5 minute install.. As always a pleasure dealing with etrailer... Keep up the great work.

2/13/2014

does the custom fit wiring package need relays?

Patrick B.

2/14/2014

This wiring kit is designed to be used on vehicles that had the factory tow package in place from the factory, including any relays. You can use a circuit tester to test the port first to see if it is active. If it is not already functioning, then you will need a different kit that includes the relays and usually a jumper harness for these Nissan applications. Feel free to write back with the Year, Make and Model of your vehicle and I can help you find all the options.

  • Troubleshooting No Power at Factory Trailer Wiring Plug on 2014 Nissan Frontier
If you are not getting any power at the factory port where the Curt Wiring Harness # C55441 plugs into, this actually may indicate that your 2014 Nissan Frontier is not equipped with the factory tow package. The existing Curt harness will still plug into the factory port like you see on your vehicle, but without the tow package you will still need to add a relay harness for the port to become active. This relay harness is included with the Curt T-Connector # C56225. It is not available...

  • Troubleshooting Left Turn Signal/Brake Lamp Circuit on Trailer Connector 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
If the applicable fuses and relays aren't blown, but power isn't reaching the 4-pole plug left turn/brake light pins, then there's probably a cut wire someplace between the fuse block and the trailer connector. Try tracing the 4-pole to the connector it plugs into. Unplug the 4-pole and use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 on the pins of the connector as a helper activates each turn signal function. If you're getting the left turn signal at this connector, simply replace the 4-pole...

If your 2014 Nissan Xterra PRO4X did not come with a factory tow package then Curt wiring harness # C55441 will not work. It is designed for models that came with a factory tow package. For models without a tow package you would use # C56225. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you.

The hitch that is recommended for your 2015 Nissan Frontier is the Curt Class-III trailer hitch # 13241. The towing capacity is 5,000 pounds and tongue weight is 500 pounds. If you happen to need a ball mount, go with Curt # C45030. It will give you a 1 inch rise or a 2-inch drop. The ball would need to have a 1-inch diameter shank such as # 63845 will work just fine. • Installing 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2014 Nissan Frontier
To install a 7-way, you'd first need to install the 4-pole flat connector (if you don't already have one.) I'd recommend the Curt wiring harness, part # C56225. Once that's in place, how you would proceed will depend on the trailer you're pulling. If the trailer does NOT have brakes, but just the lighting circuits, you can simply use the # 37185 adapter. The adapter would plug into your existing 4-pole, and the white wire with the ring terminal on it would ground to the vehicle frame....

On your 2013 Nissan Frontier, like you said the gray plug is for the trailer running lights, brake lights, and turn signals. The black plug handles all other possible functions including 12 volt accessory power, reverse lights, and brake controller output. If just adding a 4-Way these functions are not needed. If you wanted all the functions you would need to add a 7-Way using # 118266.

Basically these two harnesses are the same except the # 118525 includes the relays and harnesses to activate the plug in harness that is on your 2014 Nissan Frontier.
