Today we're going to take a look at the Bright Way 0.5 amp trailer breakaway charger. Now this part will replace the charger that came with your trailer breakaway kit. It is designed to work with the Bright Way breakaway kits, and this can be added to a trailer breakaway kit that did not originally come with a battery charger. But this breakaway charger will provide 0.5 amps to the breakaway battery while it's plugged into your running towed vehicle. This ensures that the breakaway system is fully charged at all times should the switch be activated in case of a runaway trailer. And this charger's normally installed inside the battery box with the battery.It does hard wire to your vehicle's power source and to the battery in your breakaway kit.
Basically they have these three wires, they're all three 16 gauge size, and they have two red wires and a blue wire. The blue wire is designed to go to the blue wire on the breakaway switch. The two red wires, you'll have one with a spade connector on it, that's designed to connect to the breakaway battery. And then you have a pigtail red wire that goes to the 12 volt power from your tow vehicle. So, once this is all hooked up and inside there, that'll give a slight charge to keep your breakaway battery charged in the battery box.

I've tried reaching out to Bright Way to see if there is a diode included with the charger but I haven't been able to get an answer about it, so in this case installing the diode will ensure that 12V accessories won't drain your breakaway battery.
