When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Not a fan because of the screw down and up for ball attachment. Unit Itself works great.

Very good and easy to install on my 1998 boat trailer. Not a fan of the screw down coupler but thats a minor issue....

by:

Bolted right on with no problem. Now to pull off the hubs and check the wheel cylinders

by:

I absolutely hate the twist lock on it. Received this twist lock style instead of what was pictured with a flip latch. Called to speak my piece about it and was told it was all they had. Now I'm stuck with it. I hate it!

by:

Direct Bolt on, better than welding. Surge Brake Line connected just fine. Bled Brakes. Test drive was successful. What more could you ask for. I chose the hand tightening knob over the Lever because it was more assuring to me that it was tight on the ball and the locking mechanism has never failed. I have used Titan surge actuators for 40 years. I am using this actuator on a 4,000 lbs. boat and trailer. On my way to the lake!

by:

This is an inferior product as it has no opening to pump brake fluid for bleeding brakes like better actuators. You must use a 2X4 or other items to pump actuator. Also, better actuators have auto lock with locking pin for securing to towing ball rather than a screw down. This actuator is outdated and I replaced it with a better product.

by:

Product was as ordered. Shipped promptly. Only been used two times and works fine

by:

Great product works great on my boat trailer

by:

So far it looks like it will work. We have yet to install it.

by:

Bolted right onto the trailer. No instructions and the link on the web sit didn't work but what do you need for two bolts. Wouldn't have minded some guidance with bleeding the brakes but got it done anyway.
Greatly improved the towing of my boat trailer!
Good price. Shipping good. What else would you want!?

Well, it worked great till I sold the boat last October. Shocked about the follow-up! Wow

by:

Excellent value, great heavy duty product, fast and easy installation, perfect fit.
Can't ask for more!

by:

Fast delivery & looks like the right brake actuator will install later this spring boat in storage. Very good service will recommend my friends to your company. Thanks for your help David Castle

Its working great replaced my 26 year old brake actuator

by:

Excellent product. This was almost an exact replacement for the original one that was on my boat trailer. I had the boat out about once a week this summer and the actuator worked perfectly. Braking was smooth and it locks down easily on the hitch ball. I highly recommend this actuator.

by:

Very easy to install, I took the old unit off and had the new one installed in less than an hour. I hooked the trailer to my truck and primed the Hydraulic cylinder before I attached the brake line. No problems.

by:

Seems to be what I needed to have replaced, was easy to install. Only problem, NO instructions. I did find video suggestions online.

by:

This product perfectly replaced my tongue master cylinder on my 1992 Capri boat trailer. It bolted right up and the brake line thread was the same. It was super easy. It is a huge improvement!

by:

Perfect replacement for my existing brake. I'm using this brake coupled with the Titan actuator W/reverse lockout solenoid since there is no manual lockout and I don't have free backing brakes.

by:

I cannot say enough about etrailer!! I ordered my part at a much cheaper price than I would have paid locally, it was mailed the same day and I got it three days later!! When ordering, I spoke to Shawn who was very professional and very precise in my wishes......she made me feel like a very valuable customer!! The part arrived in perfect shape and was easy to install. I would not hesitate to order from etrailer again!! Keep up the good work!!

by:

Arrived corroded and not functioning properly. I had to disassemble and clean the rust that was on the inside of the fluid reservoir and the piston. I would have sent back but I needed it at the time. The piston was frozen. It took some time for me to figure this out.

DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK (I have stronger words but you get the idea) You get this piece of junk and ZERO info. I'm going to stop reviewing now before I go off the deep end!

by:

Just as shown online product fit perfect great to see a company that has great service and low prices. I will buy again when I need something. Brake actuator looks exactly like my old one saved a lot of time and money.

by:

The part was a perfect fit and the service was prompt and friendly. I had a question and the person on live chat was friendly and helpful. I would definitely use etrailer again

by:

good stuff, nice product, shipped fast, exact fit / this is just what I wanted I had questions called and asked and got answers / the price couldn't be beat I tried other on line and local stores / am a happy camper I would buy here again.

  • What Can Replace My Atwood Weld On Coupler On My Trailmaster Trailer
Your Atwood coupler is welded on to your Trailmaster trailer. Unfortunately, the only way to replace it is to remove it and replace it with a new welded on coupler. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - Multi-Fit Ball - Bolt On - 7,000 lbs, part # T43397007K, will be your best option. You will have to have a welder install this on your Trailmaster trailer. I have included a product description link and a video review link below.

  • How to Bleed Air from Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator
On the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T43397007K you can get access to the plunger for purposes of bleeding the system of air by removing the plate that surrounds the breakaway lever and by removing the front plate with the logo. You can then manually push the lever to pressurize the system and bleed out any air in the lines. It is also possible to bleed the brakes by using a 2x4 piece of lumber as a lever to compress the actuator to apply pressure to the system.` You may care to...

To convert your Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum # T43397007K to Disc # T47457007K you will need to change out the Master Cylinder Assembly # T4820000. If you do not already have a Reverse Lockout Solenoid # T4748800 you will want to add that as well since there are no free backing disc trailer brakes. A Solenoid Shield # T4835800183 will protect the solenoid if you do not have one. Using a disc brake kit like the Kodiak # K2R35S will reduce rusting as the rotors and calipers...

If the cap of your Titan Model 60 actuator part # T43397007K is shooting fluid out of the filler cap one of two things is happening. Either there is a clog somewhere on your brake lines or the master cylinder is having some type of problem. The reservoir of an actuator should not have pressure or fluid backfeeding into it when actuated. What you will want to do is remove the brake line from the actuator and pump the actuator. If fluid comes out of the actuator and not the filler cap at...

The metal cable on top of the Titan actuator part # T43397007K is the breakaway cable. This attaches to your tow vehicle so that in the event the trailer was to become disconnected the brakes of the trailer would apply to stop it and prevent it from running away and possibly hitting someone. You can reset the breakaway as well. • Can Reverse Lock Out Solenoid be Left On Titan Model 60 If Never Needed
If you never plan to use the reverse lock out solenoid that comes with some of the Titan Model 60 actuators you could remove it if you wanted to, but if you never wired it up you could just leave it on there and it wouldn't ever activate or cause issue. The solenoid is normally open so it wouldn't close on you at any point if never wired up. The bleeding process for the brakes is not hard but it will take a bit of time. The Powerbuilt Brake Bleeder part # ALL648591 is not required but will make life easier. • Master Cylinder is Not Pumping Fluid
If your actuator, like part # T43397007K, is new and you are testing the master cylinder without it being in the fully assembled actuator then that would be your problem. If your actuator is not new then you will want to look for any clogs in the brake line. There should be fluid moving through the line even with it being disconnected from the brakes. Try cleaning the brake line and if that doesn't help let me know and I can help you to troubleshoot further.

  • Options to Allow Boat Trailer with Hydraulic Surge Brakes to Back Up
Surge trailer brakes can be prevented from engaging when you back up by one of two methods. Second thing it could be is a bad wheel cylinder which would recommend replacing with either the # AKBRKR-H7-R (right hand side) or # AKBRKR-H7-L (left hand side). Thanks for all that detailed info, and Atwood is out of business which is why you can't find the exact replacement. We do have an option for you, that will bolt on, with the caveat being you will likely have to use shims. The reason for that is the only option to replace it is a bolt-on coupler meant for 3" wide channel tongues, so it won't be quite 3-1/2" wide. So what I recommend is one from Titan, which does have mounting holes 3" apart on center like yours, but you will also need to...

  • Titan 7000 lb Hydraulic Actuator Versus Atwood Model
Your assumption about the Titan versus the Atwood coupler is correct. When the tow vehicle comes to a stop, the front of the coupler portion will swivel downward which compresses the actuator.
