ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this wiring harness. Depending on the wiring system of your vehicle, its wiring may need to be converted to be compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

This was great. Followed the video on this site to install. Worked and every necessary part was included. It would however be a bit easer if there was a disconnect between the exterior and interior wiring. This would make it much easer to install and also allow use of the grommet provided for the OEM wiring harness which is much easer to get to.

This kit was a great way for me to install a 7 pin set-up on my Sienna minivan that didn't have a custom kit available for it. At the time of purchase it was a relatively new kit to etrailer, and I had been told by etrailer that the only way to get a 7 pin on my sienna was to install a 4 pin first then an adapter (the etrailer rep. had no previous experience with this kit). By using this kit I avoided having to install the 4 pin harness first followed by the 7 pin adapter. It took me a while to find, but this kit did the trick. It's probably a little more difficult to install due to it not having custom, vehicle specific, fittings, but it's doable. I was able to find on line diagrams from toyota describing how to run a wiring harness inside of the vehicle (under the panels so there are no lines run under the body of the car). This worked out really well, and I was even able to figure out where a reverse light wire was to get that signal (seems to be commonly left out when wiring harnesses and trailers). Overall, this kit is what I needed at the time, and worked out really well (also, just checked, and there is still no custom 7 pin adapter for the Sienna on etrailer)

My only complaint with the harness kit is that the wiring supplied doesn't include a thick enough 12v trailer positive line to support vehicle charging of a trailer battery when driving. If I remember correctly, 8 gauge is what was recommended for a vehicle battery to trailer run. The harness ships with a length of 12/3 wire which I swapped for 12/2 plus 8/1 wires.
That combination, combined with CTEK40186 meant that my battery was typically charged whenever we arrived at the next spot we were going to.

One other concern I had with this kit was that my vehicle would draw power from my trailer through the 12v trailer power line, blowing the fuse any time I started my van with the trailer hooked up. I ended up adding a solenoid switch to the line so that the line wouldn't be connected during ignition. Apparently, CTEK40186, will also prevent this, but I wasn't positive, and the solenoid was a relatively easy addition - not to mention it keeps my trailer battery from charging when the van is connected to the trailer, but off.

Still working like a charm.

This is not straight forward or the right part for a 2023 Palisade. Then cannot return after spending 60 days trying to figure it out. I would leave it to the experts. Same issue with my other car trying to get to 7 pin from 4 pole.

I installed this kit in my '69 F-100 about a year ago and is still working well with no issues. The components are high quality and the directions are reasonably clear.
My only complaint is that the main harness running to the rear bumper was WAY too short. I had to purchase separately about 10 feet of heavy duty 7 way electrical trailer wire and splice it in (14 connections total). This was time consuming since I soldered and heat shrunk the connections. What would've worked better would be to supply the harness in two segments with about 20 feet of wire and let the installer cut to length and have the single splice be inside the cab. They also supplied far too much cable to go to the battery - not sure what vehicle they based their wire lengths on but it couldn't have been a truck (maybe a motorcycle with a remote mounted battery in a trailer LOL).
Anyway - like the product and would install this again if needed.

by:

My only issue was the installation, due to the complexity of the kit my installation fees were very high. This is not a plug and go item!

Thank you Steve at etrailer! Your expert knowledge and timely service exceeded all my expectations. I will recommend etrailer and all the products offered to everyone I know. Thanks again!

  • Wiring Harness and Junction Box for a DIY Trailer
We do have a great wiring harness for DIY trailers. It is the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 4' Long item # H20043. The Pre-wired 7-Way Trailer Connector measures four feet long including the connector. To secure and consolidate all of your wiring connects you will want to use the Trailer Wiring Junction Box - 7 Terminal item # 3375601100. The weatherproof, heavy-duty plastic protects wires and terminals from the elements.

  • What Is Best Way to Convert 4-Way of 1999 GMC Sierra K1500 to 7-Way to Install Brake Controller
The # 22551 that you referenced can install in your 1999 GMC Sierra K1500 to install a 7-way but since you already have a 4-way installed a good portion of the wiring of this kit wouldn't be needed and would be redundant. Overall though it's still not a difficult install. The easiest solution would have been the # ETBC7 that you referenced. This plugs into the 4-way you have to take care of all of the trailer light functions and then comes with all of the connections needed to wire up...

I recommend adding the Tekonsha Universal 7-Way # 22551 on your 2022 Ford F-150 as there is not an aftermarket custom fit wiring harness. You will be able to switch out the included 7-way connector for the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975 so you will be able to have both connectors without needing an Adapter # 78118. If you are needing a brake controller the Prodigy P3 # 90195 is a very user friendly controller that is easy to read and customizable. It will plug into the...

The 7-Way on a semi-truck is not the same as an RV style 7-Way and there isn't an adapter. What I recommend, instead of replacing the connector on the trailer, is to add the correct mating 7-Way on the truck. To do that you can hard wire in a 7-Way, # HM47210. For this 7-Way the white wire is ground, yellow is left turn signal and brake lights,...
