Video Transcript for Deka 12 Gauge Black Primary Wire Review

Today we're going to review and install the Deka 12-gauge black primary wire, part number 12-1-1. It meets the SAE J 1128 specification, has a nice thermal plastic cover, and inside are copper leads. Here we can see the nice copper strands. They're good and durable, don't break easily. After I strap back, they can be twisted together, then routed or connected as needed. Our 12-gauge wire can handle up to 50 volts and has a max temperature of 176 degrees Fahrenheit.

It has many uses. Some typical uses will be wiring on trailers, general connections or wiring repairs. Now for this application we're going to add some 12-gauge wire, slide it into the butt connector, crimp it down. We're going to go ahead and wrap it up with some black electrical tape to help keep it clean from dirt, dust, debris, and moisture. That will do it for the review and install of the Deka 12-gauge black primary wire, part number 12-1-1.

  • Adding a Brake Controller to a 2017 Ford Explorer XLT with Factory Tow Package
If your trailer has electric brakes then I highly recommend using a brake controller to decrease stopping distances when towing and to reduce wear and tear on the 2017 Ford Explorer's brakes. Your Explorer with tow package should include a 7-Way trailer connector which is needed for electric brakes. But also check the glove box for a Ford brake controller harness which they may or may not have included. If you do have the factory brake controller harness then the amount of installation...

  • Breakaway Kit and Wiring Needed To Connect Brakes On a Utility Trailer and Brake Controller 2012 Ram
First you will need a Trailer Breakaway Kit # C52042. This will include a breakaway battery and breakaway switch. As long as you still have the 7-way # HM20048 and a Junction Box # 38656 still on your trailer you will only need 12 Gauge Wire # 12-1-1 to run from the junction box to the brake assemblies. If you are missing anything else from the trailer please let me know and I can point you in the correct direction. Be sure to inspect the brakes as there could be something wrong with them...

  • How to Connect Horse Trailer with 6 Way Connector to 7 Way Vehicle Plug
To start, the colors on the trailer really isn't reliable since someone may have changed the wiring at some point; you'll need to test each circuit individually to verify which function it carries and work from there. I'm attaching a diagram of the typical wiring for a 6 way connection that you can cross reference and determine if your wiring matches up. The difference between a 6 way and 7 way connection is that a 7 way connection has a circuit for the reverse lights on the trailer. Now,...

You will also need some Butt Connectors # DW05745-10 to join the lengths of wire.

  • HydraStar HBA-CAM Adapter Module Malfunctions When Used with Dexter Disc Brake Actuator
The HydraStar HBA-CAM Adapter Module, part # HBA-CAM, is intended specifically for use with generation 6 and later models of the HydraStar electric-over-hydraulic brake actuators. There is likely a compatibility issue between the HBA-CAM and the Dexter EOH system. Dexter does not recommend use of adapter modules; instead they recommend using a compatible brake controller. The GMC factory controller is not compatible. Your best option is to use an aftermarket brake controller such as...

  • Need Brake Flange For Adding Brakes to Homemade Trailer
Since your hubs are for 5200-lb axles and you've confirmed that you do have a 3" diameter axle, you'll need the Redline 5 Bolt Flange # 4-44-1 . You should know, if you don't already, that brake flanges need to be welded perfectly concentric. For that reason we generally recommend that the work be done by an experienced trailer shop that has the required jig. To add brakes to your axles you'll need a couple additional parts- brakes and a hub and drum assembly. For brakes I recommend the...

  • Electric Trailer Brakes Affecting Lights on Trailer
That is truly bizarre and not something myself or others I consulted with here have ever heard of happening. So please keep that in mind but there are some issues that may be causing this to look out for. If other trailers work fine with your truck the issue has to be with the wiring on this specific trailer. First, the most basic thing to do is check your trailer connector for corrosion if you haven't; it could be causing issues with the signals getting mixed or circuits crossing, and...

The current draw for the Electric Jack w/ Footplate item # EJ-3520-WBX varies depending on the weight load. The jack will also use less power to lower than to lift the trailer. Under maximum load the power required to lift will be approximately 30-amps. It takes about 5 seconds to go up an inch on a 3,500 lbs trailer we had in the shop. If the battery is close to the jack and mounted on the tongue of your trailer you will want to use 12 Gauge Black Primary Wire item # 12-1-1. This is...

I have included a link to the help article on installing an aftermarket brake controller on a 2013 GMC Sierra that has a factory integrated controller. Basically, you will wire up the brake controller white, black, and red wires as indicated in the linked article. The blue wire though will need to be ran manually from the brake controller to the back of the 7-Way trailer connector and attached in the 7 o'clock position. For wire you can use # 12-1-1. This will completely bypass the control module so you can manually retract/extend the steps. You will need to use # 12-1-1 to run wire to you steps and make your butt connections with # DW05745-10, from here you will run a line to your battery and make a jumper as well with # RM-300115-00. • Will the Prodigy RF Brake Controller Fit a 2015 Ford Transit T350
First, I recommend the Curt T-Connector harness # C56327 for your 2015 Ford Transit T350. You can still use adapter # C57674. The great part about this set up is that if you are using the Prodigy RF brake controller # TK94FR then you only need to hardwire the black power wire from the adapter to the battery via a 40 amp circuit breaker, # PK54540. You will also need enough wire to go from the back of the van to the battery. You can use wire # 12-1-1 which is sold by the foot. Then you...

These brakes are great as once you have them initially set you will not have to adjust them periodically. They will automatically adjust which improves braking quality and life. • Not Getting Power to Auxiliary Power Pin on Wiring Harness
There are a couple reasons the 12V hot lead pin may not have power on your trailer connector. The first thing that you will want to do is to check to make sure that the wiring for the power is actually plugged into the battery power. This is typically done by using a ring terminal on one of the battery terminals on your 2010 Winnebago Impulse. Another step to take early on in the troubleshooting process is to see if your E-450 has a fuse for the trailer power. If there is a fuse dedicated...

I checked the owner's manual for the 2016 Jeep Patriot and there is not all that much information on flat towing apart from an explanation of the models that can be flat towed. Since the vehicle has a feature that drains the battery while being flat towed I recommend supplying a trickle charge to the battery from the motor home. There are not a lot of boat trailers that require a 12 volt circuit but regardless it may not be a fuse you are looking for but a relay. Consult the vehicle owners manual for the locations of all fuses/relays associated with the factory tow package wiring. If there is a relay for the 12 volt circuit then the only way to really test it is to put a known good relay in its place. The manual will also cover any fuses you may have missed. This will add the 7-Way and retain the 4-Way should you need it. If your trailer does not require 12 volt power then the only wire you will need to connect, other than the 4-Way, is the white ground wire which will go to a clean, bare metal surface. Your motor home has what is called a 3-wire system. This means it has separate turn signals from the brake lights. Trailers use a 2-wire system; the turn signals and brake lights are combined. All you need to do is install a converter, # 119178KIT.
