Trailer Brake Lights Will Not Work Because Motor Home has Separate Turn Signals From Brake Lights
Question:
I have a Monoco motor home that has separate lights for the signal and different lights for the brake lights. When I plug it in, the brakes only try to go on with the 4 way flashers. The signal lights will work on the trailer but the brake lights will not go on.

Your motor home has what is called a 3-wire system. This means it has separate turn signals from the brake lights. Trailers use a 2-wire system; the turn signals and brake lights are combined. All you need to do is install a converter, # 119178KIT. On this converter, the input side has a red wire for brake lights only, a green wire for right turn only, a yellow wire for left turn only, a brown wire for running lights, and a white ground wire.
You just have to use the included circuit tester to test the motor home wires to determine the correct wires to make the connections to the converter. Then on the output side you will have a regular 2-wire 4-Way flat connector.
If you need to make it a 7-Way you would then use # ETBC7. I have included links that explain the ETBC7 installation. Because motor homes can be so long, you may also need some extra wire, # 12-1-1, sold in increments of 1 foot.
