Today we'll be taking a look at part number 63847. This is the Tow Ready hitch ball with the of 2 5/16 inch diameter and a medium shank, rated at 7500 pounds. The diameter of our shank is right at an inch, and the length of our shank is 2 1/8 long. This is going to fit ball mounts with a thickness of 3/8 of an inch to 7/8 of an inch. It has this nice strong finish which is going to help it stand up against the elements, and again it's rated at 7500 pounds. We'll go ahead and show you how it is installs. What you do is you take your ball mount and take your ball.

Slide it through the hole. Put on the lock washer and secure it with the knot. Now, you will want it to be sure to go and twerk it down to the manufacturer's recommendations. Once we would have that finger tight, what you do is you take your inch, secure it here at the holds. Take another inch and twerk it down to the specifications from the manufacturer.

Now, it's going to complete today's review of part number 63847, the hitch ball from Tow Ready. .

Ball has been great. Give it a grease a head down the road

by:

Fast shipping! Exactly what I needed. Thank you! The new extended receiver and hitch ball are perfect!

by:

It's a hitch ball. If you are checking reviews for hitch balls I'm guessing you have had something catastrophic happen in your past. This did not have any such problems.

etrailer.com has the best customer service I have had the pleasure to work with in a very long time. Lets face it, everyone makes mistakes, but how you deal with those mistakes is what makes the difference. I have dealt with companies that did not take responsibility for their mistakes and it wound up costing me time and money. etrailer on the other hand quickly admitted their mistake and worked to correct the error with as little impact to me, the customer, as possible. I had a specific problem I was trying to address and I had been on several different sites looking for a solution. I was not finding what I needed. I saw some thing that may have worked for me on the etrailer site, but I needed more information then was available on their web site. So I called and got a Customer Service rep named Mike almost immediately. Mike took his time and answered my questions, and when it looked like the item I was looking at would not work for me, he looked though their inventory and found the exact item I needed to solve my problem. When I looked up the part # on the web, to view the part and see if it was what I was looking for, I found it was well documented and even had the one dimension that I needed to verify whether or not it would work for me, when most other sites did not provide that information. It was a great experience and I finally found what I needed. Thanks Mike! Then when my part arrived, I was impressed with the packaging. This heavy metal stuff was packaged better then a lot of fragile stuff I have received from other companies. I opened the package I found they had accidentally shipped one wrong part. The part number on the part did not match my order but it was basically the same part, but a slightly different size for the shank ( I can see where this would have been an easy mistake to make). I called and again had a great experience with their customer service (Katie). She answered the phone quickly and politely and when I explained that I got the wrong part, she apologized for the error and offered to make it right. They would send the correct part along with a prepaid label to return the wrong one. I am very pleased with all my dealings with etrailer and I would definitely recommend them to anyone. The ball mount and ball I got solved my problem by providing something I was not able to locate elsewhere, and the prices were good as well.

I am very satisfied with my purchases. They continue to perform as needed.

by:

I was so impressed with how easy it was to make the purchase of my trailer hitch and wiring kit, and it was so much cheaper than my local trailer hitch people were charging. The YouTube videos made the attachment process much easier. Because I was nervous about whether or not I was ordering all the right parts online, I called eTrailer, and a nice person went through my order with me. Turns out the ball I bought was 2" and I should have bought a 1-7/8 ball. That was really my fault, but I wish the sales clerk had mentioned I needed to check that. Still, for an absolute novice at this kind of stuff, the entire experience was great, and I can wholeheartedly recommend eTrailer to any other novices out there who want to add a hitch to their vehicles!

by:

My trailer has cut through some of the chrome but the ball is holding up very well. We do not grease this one as we have with some in the past due to pulling it out and carrying it around a lot as we switch out sizes of hitches in the receiver for different trailers. Using a 10K hydraulic trailer on this ball and there are no signs of real wear on the ball itself.

by:

Recommendation by etrailer was perfect.
Easy
to install
Trailer pulls with no sway, wandering
Or porpoising.

Take the recommendation and go with it.
They know what they are doing.

Great

by:

This ball fit perfectly on the hitch. The camper hooks up to it very easily.

by:

All three items were great I especially The locking pin.

by:

I recently ordered a new Curt receiver hitch, ball, and a 4 inch drop receiver to put on a 2001 Gmc Sierra 1500. The truck had an old hitch on it for the last 10 years and couldn`t even get the receiver out. It had a closed end which always got rusted up so I went for a new receiver hitch. The worst part was getting the old hitch off. The new one bolted right up perfectly and shipping was a day earlier than expected. Great company, great service, great price, need I say anymore. If you need trailer hitch parts this is the place to go.

by:

After purchasing a trailer hitch for my Nissan Xterra, I found finding the right ball at local shops difficult. I returned to etrailer's site, found the balls and hitch pin I needed, and received everything in just five days.

by:

I just bought a new trailer that is 7 feet longer than my last and heavier and I now have a truck instead of an SUV so I needed to get a new weight distribution hinge with sway control. etrailer had all the best brands at the best price and delivery was fast. Unfortunately that's all I can comment on so far. I'm not picking up the new trailer till mid April, so I can't comment on how well it works or show pictures. I'll update later.

by:

when I needed to supply my Tow Trucks with hitch balls I turned to etrailer because locally I could not get this price and the amount I needed in a timely fashion.

by:

Ordering on line was a breeze -- everything was explained in the descriptions and the photos were clear. I received the product quickly and I appreciated the post-sale communication to let me know the status of my order. I was impressed by the smooth welds and the finish on both the ball and the mount. I expect they will give me many years of care-free use. Thanks!
PS No photos yet -- we pick up our trailer next week and I'll snap a few then and get one off to you!

by:

Thank you for handling/completing this order

by:

Well made and the finish is very nice. The threads are smooth and there are wrench flats on the ball side, makes tightening the nut easier. It should be noted that the load rating on this one is 7500 lbs, due to the one inch shank. A good value at Etrailer.

by:

Fit as described, put on my brand new drop hitch!

by:

Ok it’s a trailer ball, as described, does what it was supposed to
Fast shipping great customer service

by:

Though the trailer ball was made in China, it appears to be very well manufactured.

by:

Item is exactly as it is describe and in good condition when I received it.

by:

ALL TRAILER BALLS PERFORMED GREAT AS US UAL

by:

This is a great quality trailer ball. Exactly what I needed. Thanks!

by:

etrailer is always our one stop shop for all of our trailer needs. They always have what we need at an affordable price.

  • Clearance Needed for Tailgate to Open With Stromberg Carlson Electric Jack
From the center of the tube to the furthest part of the motor housing on the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-5000 measures approximately 5-3/4 inches. If you are worried about having enough clearance for your tailgate there is a simple solution, which is a long ball mount. Assuming you have a 2" hitch there are a number of options depending on the rise of drop you need: - Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop, Extra Long # D-26 - Curt Class III Drawbar - 2" Rise - 4" Drop -...

  • Hitch Extender For 7,000 Lb Trailer Towed By Motor Home
The Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long part # C45795 is designed for 2" hitches and a maximum trailer weight of 3,500 lbs so it would not be a good fit for your 7,000 lb trailer. We do not have a good option for an extender to tow a 7,000 lb trailer because extenders do cut the tongue weight of the hitch on your vehicle in half. A better option is to use an extra long ball mount like Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop, Extra Long part # D-26 which measures 12-5/8" long...

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for 6 inches of Rise to Tow Trailer Level
Using a 6 inch rise ball mount does not cause any safety issues. If anything using the correct rise ball mount allows you to prevent the biggest safety issue which is towing an unlevel trailer. The Curt ball mount part # C45100 would work well for you as it has a 6-1/4 inch rise. For a 2 inch ball we have the part # 63845 and then for a 2-5/16 inch ball we have the part # 63847.
