I’m pleased with the product and how prompt the delivery was. However the packaging was insufficient and the packaging was torn open all over. Scuffing of the finish is a result and of little consequence due to the intended use. It’s a stinger w/ball for motorhome. May I suggest better packaging in the future

by:

I like the extra long length. No one else make a hitch this long.

by:

Slightly longer, so you can open your tailgate with a cargo trailer attached. Trailers with a tongue jack that is forward are problematic for tailgates...

by:

I didn’t receive the ball mount. Only thing in the box was anti rattle device

by:

The products themselves I’m sure will do the job. I’m very disappointed in how they arrived. Poorly packaged, one piece of paper wrap did nothing. There was a hole in the box from the hitch not being wrapped up. There are chips in the powder coat.

by:

This is really nice. Beveled edges so it slips into receiver hitch so sweet. Beautiful welds heavy weight mount for my weigh safe ball. I bought a 10,000 lbs hitch and I wanted a draw bar with the same type rating. Now the only thing limiting my trailer capacity is my truck's ability to tow, not the hitch, bar or ball.

by:

I purchased a Ranch Hand rear bumper for my 2500HD but wanted to retain the use of a receiver hitch. The ball mount would need to extend 8" from the pin hole to even reach the edge of the bumper. This BM29 ball mount works out perfect. The welds look great and the finish is just fine. The only complaint I have is they gained a little length by moving the pin hole a little closer to the end shortening the insertion amount slightly. Not a big deal, it is just noticable next to the other mounts I have at the house.

by:

Perfect size for a 2004 Jeep Liberty with spare wheel on back. Very nice quality. I can now mount my trailer hassle free.

by:

Just bought a set of front steps for my boat, and needed some extra length on the ball mount.
This mount fits the bill at 13 1/4 long

by:

Needed to extend my hitch due to tailgate needing to be open. E-Trailer had this one on hand for a very decent price. Easy order, and fast shipping. Thank YOu.

by:

BM20 Long Drawbar. Perfect for my 2005 Jeep Liberty. I no longer have to remove the spare to tow. Solved what was a major pain!

by:

Great for chassis cab trucks with long boxes.

by:

Just what I needed to tow my boat

Great

by:

just what i needed

by:

Gives me the extra 6" extension I need so that the rear liftgate on my van can open without hitting the trailer jack, or the spare tire which I carry on the trailer tongue.

This is a VERY solid piece, would easily handle far more than my 300lb tongue weight.
As usual etrailer delivered exactly as promised.

its been hung on the back for a year. I never take it off.All kinds of weather, including Hurricane Matthew, Totally bulletproof.I have only one complaint, I bang my shins into it once in a whilewhen loading stuff in the back. But thats me, not the hitch. In a year its pulled 3 different boats, 2 different trailersand, in a pinch, anchor point for the chain while felling a tree.

by:

This worked out perfectly. Had a flat bed put on one of our pickups, but the frame mounted hitch sat too far back from the new dock bumper. This ball mount moved it out just right so we didn't have to put a new receiver on the truck.

Holding up very well after a year.

by:

I love this trailer hitch for my truck because it allows freedom to put tailgate up and down when we do equestrian camping. It has been a great purchase.

Great!

by:

This product allowed me to open my deck lid on the tow vehicle while hitched. I love it, was delivered promptly and is excellent quality, could not love it more!
Also increased capacity from 600/6000 to 1000/10000 lbs. while not needed I like the safety of the margin.

Could not be happier, great item.

by:

Excellent, heavy duty, well built. HOWEVER, the width of the lip where the ball mounts is over a 1/4" wider than standard. This means standard accessories such as stabilizers and backup guides will not be able to be used with this ball mount.

Garry R.

3/31/2014

No change. I had to have a custom ball mount made because of the limitations of your product and the complete lack of anything else.

by:

Hard to find item. But extends trailer back enough to open tail gate without hitting jack crank. Was not available at Northern or other suppliers locally.

Waddell

8/30/2016

Product has worked out to exceed my expectations. In fact it makes my trailer easier to tow.

by:

This was exactly what I was trying to find in various stores with no luck. Quality built, American made product. Gives me the little extra distance for turning and allows tailgate to drop without hitting trailer.

Don

I love the hitch. However, the crime [chrome] has come off of the ball and it has rusted. The extended hitch has worked very well in towing and launching my boat.

by:

We got this so we could open our tailgate without having to unhitch the trailer. It works great! Product is good, service was fast... it made our trip to Alaska much happier (our dog needs the tailgate lowered so she can jump in and out for potty breaks). We still need to have the truck and trailer pretty much straight in line with each other... if there is too much angle left or right, we can't fully lower the tailgate. We drive a 2015 Ford F-150.

by:

Always have the products and ships immediately. Thank You

by:

I ordered the Dexter nev-er-adjust electric trailer brake and bearing kit's for my Aliner. The installation was easy thanks to your instructional video's. The delivery was fast and everything fit perfectly. I took one twelve hundred mile trip and had no issues. I also ordered the Brophy ball mount because it was long enough for me to drop my tailgate without hitting the hitch crank.

Thanks

by:

As advertised. Great way to get extra clearance under my sled deck to haul our enclosed trailer and still open the front door.

A year later and still no complaints. No signs of abnormal wear or stress on the hitch or stinger. Seems like it will do its job for a long while.

  • Towing with the BM20 extra long shank ball mount
There are many factors that go into determining a weight rating for a ball mount. The Bropy Ball Mount # BM20 for instance with having the extra long 13-1/4" ball mount to center pin hole will create more leverage on the receiver tube. The same way you use longer ratchets to make turning a bolt easier. That is one factor that a manufacturer has to consider when developing a ball mount. When towing your pop up you will not likely notice a difference in the way the trailer tows. This is...

  • How Much Does The Brophy Hitch Extender Reduce Tongue Weight
Almost all hitch extenders will cut your tongue weight in half. However, Brophy has confirmed their Brophy Hitch Extender with step part # ST18 will cut the tongue weight of the trailer hitch by only 33-1/3%. If your hitch is rated for 500 lbs tongue weight then the new tongue weight will be 333 lbs compared to 250 lbs with the other options. I instead recommend using an extra long ball mount if you can get away with it because they do not reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch...

  • Can I Turn The Trailer A-Frame Jack To Achieve Clearance For My Lift Gate/Tailgate?
Tongue jacks like the Stromberg Carlson Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack # JET-2500 are capable of being turned and bolted into a different orientation. As this jack will only have 3 bolt holes the head will turn 120 degrees to either side. Also the utility light on the head of the jack will not shine on the hitch like it will currently. The Bulldog Powered Drive Trailer Jack # BD500187 has a much smaller head and may provide the clearance necessary to open and close your lift gate without...

  • Does Using Extra Long Ball Mount BM20 Reduce The Tongue Weight Capacity Of Trailer Hitch Receiver?
The Brophy Ball Mount - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 15-3/4" Long - 10,000 lbs # BM20 you were looking at has a 1,000lb tongue weight rating and 10,000lb trailer weight rating so you will have no issues using it with your camper that has 500lbs of tongue weight. Extended ball mounts do not reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch like a hitch extender does as the ball mount is one piece where the extender adds another connection in. This ball mount uses a 1" hitch ball so you will need...

We can help you with a trailer hitch for your 2013 Mercedes ML 350, but we do not carry trailer wiring for your vehicle so you would have to go to a Mercedes dealer for that. For a hitch you would want the Curt hitch part # C13411 which is a fit as long as you do not have the Active Curve System. Although we don't have a 15-3/4 inch long ball mount with a 4-5 inch drop, we can get you pretty close to that. The Curt # C45270 measures 13 inches in length measured from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hole where the trailer ball installs. This is the longest ball mount we offer with the type of drop you're needing. The ball mount has a 7500 lb towing/750 lb tongue weight capacity and a 4-inch drop, For a 1-7/8 trailer ball, use # 40038 or # 63845 for a 2-inch ball.

Using the Buyers Products hitch extender part # 3371804017 with the ball mount part # BM20 would work well but you'd need to be really careful not to exceed the reduced capacity due to the hitch extender. • Choosing Extended Length Ball Mount to Provide Maximum Clearance Between Trailer and Tow Vehicle
If the trailer has an A-frame tongue on it, you should be in good shape unless you need to make a very tight 90 degree turn. We offer several different ball mounts in extended lengths. The longest ball mounts typically have a lower weight capacity. You will be best served getting the longest ball mount you can that has a capacity that exceeds the loaded weight of your trailer plus its load. Towing your 7 x 12-foot enclosed trailer will of course require a hitch and wiring on the vehicle and also a ball mount and hitch ball. Since you know you need a 2-5/16-inch hitch ball all you really need to select the correct ball mount is to refer to the linked article that explains how to choose the right one to keep the hitched trailer's frame level with the ground. Normally the load in the rear of the towing vehicle is not factored in when measuring for the correct ball mount, because the load might not be the same each time you will be towing. If the load in the rear of your vehicle will be the same amount each time you will be towing, then you could account for the extra drop in hitch height. A longer ball mount like the Brophy # BM20 that you referenced will indeed put a bit more stress on the trailer hitch/rear of tow vehicle due to that added leverage, but not to the point of it having an actual negative impact on towing or cutting into your overall towing capacity. The other disadvantage of using the hitch extender is that there will be that extra potential breaking point between the extension and the hitch.
