Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - A-6 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Part Number A-6, this is the CURT two and five-sixteenth inch trailer hitch ball. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. This hitch ball is going to give us a shank diameter of an inch and a quarter, it's going to give us a shank length measuring from the bottom of the platform to the end of the threads of two and five-eighths of an inch. This is designed to fit draw bar thicknesses of a half inch to one inch thick. The hitch ball is going to offer a capacity of ten thousand pounds. It's made from a solid steel construction with a nice chrome finish on it, so it is going to stand up really well against rusting and corrosion. Here on the sides of the platform, it's going to have the flats, these are just your wench flats, makes for an easier installation, you can get your wrench around there for a nice, adequate grip.

Really going to come in handy when you need to torque this down. The hitch ball will need to be torqued to specifications listed by the manufacturer. You can find all that information on the tag that's going to come attached to the trailer hitch ball. You just want to make sure that you remove this tag before your installation. Really simple installation though. The hitch ball is going to go straight through that opening on your ball mount.

You're going to place on the lock washer as well as the nut, and then you're going to get everything tightened down, and again once you get it hand tight, or once you get it tight with a wrench, you will need to go ahead and torque it down to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. It looks like for this particular mount, it says to tighten the trailer ball to four hundred and fifty foot pounds of torque. That's going to do it for our review of Part Number A-6, this is the CURT two and five-sixteenth inch trailer hitch ball. .

  • Is Weight Distribution System Needed for 2009 Jeep Liberty with 1 Inch Rear Sag with Trailer Loaded
For your 2009 Jeep Liberty with tow package you do not need to use weight distribution but we would recommend it because your trailer is over half the weight of your tow vehicle. There are benefits like reducing sag and adding sway control so it is a great option if you choose to. Based on your trailer weight when you calculate the 10-15% tongue weight and then any cargo weight behind the rear axle of your Jeep, I recommend using the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0800. This system will use hitch...

  • Best Weight Distribution System to Use when Testing Out Multiple Travel Trailers
Since there is going to be a variety of trailers, getting something that will fit all of the applications is difficult. Don't worry, though. We have you covered. The best one for you is going to be the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System, part # FA92-00-0800. This one can support tongue weights from 400 - 800 pounds. Going up to 800 pounds is important because once you load the trailer of those 600-pound tongue weight ones, the tongue weight will go up. You may even be able to load that...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Trailer with GVWR of 5,200 Pounds
You are correct that a weight distribution system that is rated too high for what you need can cause a rough ride for you. On the other hand if it's rated too low it won't be able to do its job. If your trailer is fully loaded you'll likely have a loaded and ready to tow tongue weight between 500 and 600 pounds. You also need to add in the amount of weight behind the rear axle of your 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. With that being said you're probably looking for a system rated in the neighborhood...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution & Sway Control for Small Hybrid Camper
Weight distribution fit is determined by the total tongue weight of the trailer. This total tongue weight includes the loaded tongue weight of the trailer (not the dry weight) as well as any cargo weight behind the rear axle of your towing vehicle. In your case this won't be much because you have a jeep without much cargo space. A system rated too high can create a rigid ride, so you want your total tongue weight to fall in the middle range of your weight distribution system's total...

  • Weight Distribution System For A 2020 Kia Telluride Towing a 5,000 lb Trailer
Hello Pete. It sounds like you are on the right track here, because the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17050 will definitely be a correct match for your 2020 Kia Telluride and your 5,000 lb trailer. Generally, we look more at the trailer side of things when selecting a weight distribution system. More specifically the loaded tongue weight of the trailer. The Curt # C17050 is recommended for trailers with a tongue weight between 400 and 600 lbs. It sounds like you will be within that...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2017 Dodge Journey Crossroad
For your 2017 Dodge Journey Crossroad, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75648. This trailer hitch receiver is easy to install and can tow 4000 lbs with or without a weight distribution system. This means the trailer when completely loaded can weight up to 4,000 lbs. The tongue weight is that amount of weight that rests on the hitch ball, and this hitch is rated to have up to 400 lbs resting on that hitch ball. I recommend using a weight distribution system...

  • Should the Hitch Ball on a Weight Distribution System Be Greased
Yes, you should absolutely be using some grease on the top of your hitch ball, the White Grease Hitch Ball Lube part # 58117 in particular which is formulated specifically to reduce friction which is what is causing the chrome coating to wear off. The absence of this chrome coating is then going to allow for rust to occur therefore, I recommend you either cover the hitch ball while not in use with the Fastway Trailer Hitch Ball Cover part # FA82-00-3216 or you can replace it. For replacement,...

  • Recommended WD System and Transmission Cooler for Towing with a 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE
I am glad that you have decided to use a Weight Distribution (WD) system. We always recommend going with one when your trailer weighs at least half of the weight of the tow vehicle, in your case a 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE. When looking at a WD system you will want to choose one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go...

The Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66082 that you are looking at is an excellent choice for your trailer that features a 420 pound tongue weight and a 3,500 pound GVWR. Its 200-600 pound tongue weight capacity will work perfectly for the total tongue weight range you are looking at with this trailer and your Grand Cherokee. As far as the particular merits of this system goes when compared to others that are also rated for your setup, you are exactly right when you mentioned...

  • Choosing Correct Curt Weight Distribution System for Trailer with GVWR of 6,243 Pounds
You upgraded your weight distribution from the Curt short-arm system, part # C17322, to the Curt TruTrack, part # C17500, which is much better system but it's still rated too high most likely. It all depends on the loaded trailer's tongue weight. Both of those systems are rated for 800 to 1,000 pounds of tongue weight. So you want the tongue weight of your loaded trailer added to the amount of weight you add behind the rear axle of your two vehicle to be between 800 and 1,000 pounds....

  • Weight Distribution System for 2004 F150 Towing Jayco 27-Foot Trailer with 600-650 Lb Tongue Weight
The ideal choice of weight distribution system will be one where your loaded trailer tongue weight falls in the middle of the systems usable range. (A system that is too low in capacity will not provide the necessary stabilization; one rated too high will be stiff and result in erratic performance.) Please note that the weight of any gear in the truck bed placed behind the rear axle needs to be added to the tongue weight of the fully-loaded ready-to-roll trailer. If your actual total tongue...

The Draw-Tite Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 7" Rise, 8" Drop - 9-1/2" Long - 12,000 lbs # 4283 is the closest we have to what you are looking for in a fixed mount. It has an 8 inch drop, 12K capacity, 1-1/4 inch hitch ball hole diameter, and 7/8 inch thick mount. The smaller diameter holes and thinner mount will leave you with only a 5K capacity. After confirming with Curt, their Class IV 2 inch trailer receiver # C14002 does not interfere with the accessibility of the spare tire. However, they do recommend removing the spare tire for the installation process, and then replacing once installation is complete. Please note that this hitch does not include a ball mount, trailer ball, pin and clip, or wiring. • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 2007 Dodge Nitro Towing 3500 Lb Camper
A key component to choosing the correct weight distribution system is knowing the trailer's exact tongue weight. Tongue weight is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. The ideal situation is to have the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use. I have included a couple of articles that...

For the weight capacity, you do not technically need a weight distribution system.
