Ordered this to fit with an eTrailer hitch for my Rav4. This was recommended as the correct extender by live chat support. Does not fit. Will not line up for the bolt to engage threads in the receiver. Also the lock is very wiggly and does not hold the extender firmly in the receiver. Super disappointed.

I had the parts taken from our warehouse and tested together. You hit the nail on the head as the inside measurement from the center of the pin hole to the solid back is 3.75 inches, which is not quite long enough for the On Ramp Yakima bike rack shank. I also tested the shank with adapter part # C45791 and it worked perfectly. I will have Customer Service reach out to you for the best option to have extender part # e88YR returned. As for the wiggly lock, I recommend also including an anti rattle device such as part # RM-061 or part # GY88XR. They would help to hold the extender tighter to the hitch opening which helps to minimize movement.

I would definitely give these items and more importantly your sales and service. 5 stars
My new F150 has a taller tailgate and the hitch receiver is farther under the bumper than my old ‘06 F250. It is also a little higher off the ground.
One picture shows how the tailgate hits tongue Jack on my utility trailer.
The ball was 8” from the receiver. The extension and new 4” drop ball mount move the ball to 14”.
So now the tailgate can open completely. Of course I needed to lengthen the chains and wiring pigtail. The trailer is only rated for 2900 lbs so it won’t exceed the decrease in load rating.

It looks good and I'm sure will work well. It does what I wanted

Very High quality product, as has been everything else that I have purchased from E Trailer. Purchased to allow me to open the tailgate on my Wrangler with a carrier installed. I will try to post pictures as soon as I use it.

  • Which Platform 4-Bike Rack has Most Clearance to Fit Past Rear Spare of Jeep Wrangler and Liberty
The Thule T2 4-bike rack part # TH69TX has 7 inches of clearance to fit past the spares at the back of your vehicles so I would be surprised if the rack fit. The 7 inches is from the center of it's hitch pin hole to the nearest bike rail, which is the distance you'd have to worry about. You could measure this on your two jeeps. So what you have to do if you wanted to verify the fit is measure from the pin hole out to the furthest point out on the rear spares of both vehicles. As long...

  • Needing to Extend Bike Rack Out from Trailer Hitch on a 2013 Ford Escape
It is possible to use a hitch extender, like # e88YR, to move the mounting point of your bike rack on your 2013 Ford Escape. However, when you use a hitch extender you will decrease your hitch's overall capacity by 50 percent. Knowing your hitch's tongue weight capacity will be an important factor when using the hitch extender. if your hitch has a 300 lbs tongue weight capacity, then using the extender will decrease the tongue weight to 150 lbs. Tongue weight will include any weight you...

  • What Do I Need To Tow A Trailer With My Trucks Tailgate Down
There isn't really a special type of trailer you can use with a longer tongue to clear the tailgate. The best option is to use an extra long ball mount to clear the tailgate because extenders like Trailer Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 8" Long # e88YR will cut the tongue weight capacity of your hitch in half. I recommend the Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitches part # BM20 which is 13-1/4" long so you can clear the tailgate. This particular ball mount has a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. To...

  • Recommended Front-Mount Trailer Hitch And Motorcycle Carrier For 2017 Ram 3500
The front mount hitch I recommend for your 2017 Ram 3500 is the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch, part # 65063. This hitch has 2-inch receiver opening. You will need to check the attached installation instructions to see if the hitch will interfere with the snow plow prep package you said is on your truck. The motorcycle carrier I recommend is the etrail Motorcycle Carrier for 2" hitches w/ramp, part # e98873. This carrier has a 500-lb weight capacity and includes a 39-3/8 inch long ramp.

  • What is the Useable Length of theTrailer Hitch Extender for 2 Hitch - 8 Long Item # e88YR
Yes, the Trailer Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 8" Long # e88YR, is measured from the center of the hitch pin hole in the shank to the center of the hitch pin hole in the receiver portion of the extender. This measurement gives you the working distance that the extender will provide. The overall length of the extender is 12-1/2 inches.

  • Compatibility of Saris Freedom # 4026F with Hitch Extender on 2009 Toyota RAV4
The Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX 4 Bike Platform Rack # SA4026F has a measurement of 14 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when folded down. When folded up the closest part of the rack is 5-1/4 inches. When using a hitch like the etrailer # e98864, the distance from the center of the hitch pin to the outermost part of your spare tire is 7-8 inches. You will still have plenty of clearance with the bike rack when in the carrying position, but...

  • Best Cargo Basket And Hitch Extender For 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Yes, it would be wise to grab the 8 inch extender # e88YR but the Reese Cargo Carrier # 63153 isn't what you want. It lacks the tilting feature which also means it cannot fold up to your 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited when not in use. The etrailer Cargo Carrier # e98874 can tilt and fold up! That's a feature I use alot because I don't like having to take the carrier in and out that often. With the 8 inch extension, you should be able to fold it up with no problem! If it were me, I would...

  • Carrying a Scooter and Carrier While Towing a Trailer Behind an RV
The first thing to check is to make sure the scooter carrier you have is rated for use at the back of an RV. Due to the distance from the rear axle to the back of an RV (which is longer than on a passenger vehicle) there is considerably more bouncing (like being at the back of a school bus). This additional stress creates a lot of stress on the hitch and the carrier. If the carrier is rated for use at the back of an RV then what might work for you is the multipurpose ball mount, # D210....

  • Why Does Hitch Extender Cut Capacity for Hitch but Longer Ball Mount Does Not
Hitch extenders like the etrailer part # e88YR reduce hitch capacity for two reasons. One is the length like you mentioned and the other is amount of additional movement that they introduce to the hitch setup which puts quite a bit of stress on the setup. Also, ball mounts come in varying lengths so someone could end up using a very long ball mount with this which would add even more leverage.

  • Will the GearBox 34 Clear My Ladder and Spare Tire Holder on My 2019 Mercedes Sprinter 2500?
The clearance of of the GearSpace 34 # HGK819 on your 2019 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 depends on how far your ladder rack and spare tire carrier extend from the rear of your vehicle. One way that you can determine for sure if you have enough space is by measuring the furthest outward surface of your tire carrier and ladder from the center of your hitch pin hole. If that measurement falls under 10 inches, you will not have interference when using the # HGK819 on your Sprinter. Unfortunately,...

I test fitted the Swagman Current 2 Bike Rack # S64678 on a 2020 Toyota Rav4 with a factory hitch just the other day. When installing the rack into the hitch, we found it was too short and we could not fold up the rack without it coming in contact with the Rav4's bumper. If you're not sure about if this bike rack will fit on your vehicle, you can check your bumper clearance by measuring from your hitch pin hole on your hitch to the end of your bumper. That measurement needs to be less...

  • Solution for Gaining Clearance to Open Hatch of Honda Pilot with Trailer Attached
As you mentioned in your question the Blue Ox Hitch Extender # BX88265 should only be used for hitch mounted accessories (bike racks, cargo carriers, etc) or for flat towing. Flat towing refers to pulling another vehicle with all 4 of its wheels on the ground, typically behind an RV. Since all the wheels are on the ground of the towed vehicle a flat towing setup doesn't create much tongue weight at all so the hitch extender is strong enough to support the weight. Blue Ox has determined...

  • Using a Long Ball Mount to Launch a Pontoon Boat with a 2007 Ford Escape
For this type of situation I recommend using the longest ball mount that you can. The reason is that because a ball mount is one piece it will not reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch. If using an extender it will reduce the tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. For a super long ball mount I have provided a link to the available options. A ball mount like # BM20 measures 13-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole.

This dimension will interfere with your 12-inch wide spare tire. There are no other options of bike rack that have shank lengths longer than 12 inches that can still accommodate a fat-tire bike. • Can a Hitch Extender Be Used With The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2024 Toyota Crown
When you use a Hitch Extender # e88YR with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C77ZV on your 2024 Toyota Crown it is important to remember the extender reduces the receiver weight capacity by 50%. So rather than being able to hold 350lbs it reduces to 175lbs minus the weight of the Extender(12lbs) to get 163lbs maximum for your bike rack and bikes. With the low ride height of your Toyota I recommend staying away from the hitch extender and selecting the Yakima StageTwo Bike Rack # Y47VR...

This factors in the 10-inch radius of each wheel (since it measures 69 inches from front tire edge to rear tire edge). With this particular wheelbase, it will unfortunately not fit the Saris SuperClamp EX Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # SA4025F. When in use you will want the tow bar to be sitting as level as possible. If the tow bar is not level you may experience handling problems and tire wear issues on the front tires of the towed vehicle. I attached an FAQ on flat towing vehicle for you to check out also.

  • Can CURT Aluminum Cargo Carrier be Used with a Hitch Extended on a 2010 Toyota Tacoma
First, I need to tell you that the use of a hitch extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. It looks like the hitches for a 2010 Toyota Tacoma have a 500 pound tongue weight capacity. With a hitch extender that capacity will be reduced to 250 pounds. If this is acceptable then will need to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the basket, which should be about 8 inches, on the carrier. The hitch extenders are a limited market because when using an extender you do reduce the tongue weight on your hitch by 50 percent. For example, if the hitch capacity...
