Motorcycle Carrier on SUV

This convenient hitch-mounted carrier lets you transport your dirt bike, scooter, e-bike, or moped on the back of your vehicle. The carrier is easier to connect to your vehicle than a conventional trailer, gives you more freedom to maneuver over bumpy and hilly terrain, and doesn't have to be registered like a trailer. It includes a sturdy, lightweight ramp that attaches to the steel frame, making it quick and easy to load and unload your motorcycle. It also includes a stop collar that automatically aligns the pin holes on the carrier and your hitch for a quick installation every time you use it.

Adjustable Wheel Holders

Motorcycle Alignment Collar

The platform has wheel holders that help steady your bike and prevent it from rolling. It has multiple pins on each side that accommodate different wheel bases. Simply remove one of the pins on each side to create an open space for each wheel to rest. The pins have a locknut, so you will need to use (2) 3/4" wrenches (sold separately) to remove them.

Multiple Tie-Down Points

Motorcycle Carrier Tie Down Points

There are 6 tie-down points on the carrier - 2 eyebolts in the front, 2 integrated eyelets along the shank, and 2 eyebolts at the rear. These tie-down points let you secure your bike to the carrier with ratchet straps (sold separately). The eyebolts simply bolt to the carrier for easy installation.

40" Loading Ramp

Motorcycle Carrier Ramp

The carrier includes a ramp that is nearly 40" long and 5" wide. The ramp makes it easy to roll your motorcycle on and off the carrier. The carrier has attachment points for the ramp on the driver's and passenger's side, so you can load your bike from either direction. Small plates on both sides of the ramp secure it to the carrier so it won't accidentally disconnect while you are loading or unloading your bike.

Motorcycle Ramp Pins

To install the ramp unscrew the 2 pins that secure the ramp to the carrier. Remove the ramp from the carrier and slide the lip of the ramp over the attachment point on either side of the carrier. When you are done place the ramp back on the carrier and screw the pins back in.

Automatic Hitch Pin Hole Alignment

Motorcycle Alignment Collar

The stop collar automatically aligns the pin holes on the shank and your hitch every time you install the carrier. It prevents you from having to get on your hands and knees to check for pinhole alignment. It's quick and easy to install, just slide the collar onto the shank, insert the carrier into your hitch, align the pin holes, slide the collar up against your hitch, and tighten down the bolt with included hand knobs. Once it's set up you never have to adjust it again.

Multiple Hitch Pin Holes for Perfect Fit

Hitch Pin Holes

The carrier's shank has 3 hitch pin holes to accommodate vehicles with varying clearance requirements. The carrier also includes a threaded, anti-rattle hitch bolt to secure the carrier to your vehicle. This bolt reduces vibration and noise in the hitch for a smooth, quiet ride.

Durable Steel Construction

Motorcycle Alignment Collar

The carrier is made of durable steel that will hold up to 500 pounds. It's sturdier than many aluminum carriers that can only hold up to 400 pounds, so it will accommodate heavier dirt bikes. It has a black powder coat finish that looks great and is corrosion resistant.

The carrier is great! I was able to customize the fit for my bike as I assembled it. The only issue I ran into was that I'm putting this on a heavy duty truck that has a 2 1/2" receiver hitch and the supplied "no rattle" hitch pin isn't long enough since it's made for a 2" receiver. I was able to find proper bolts at a local hardware store and it's all good now. The HD 4X4 truck is also taller than a lighter truck or SUV so I have to use a longer ramp than the supplied one, but that was not unexpected. Once the bike is loaded it is very easy to secure with the four tie-down points. The rack is heavy duty which means it's also heavy (about 60#) so it can be a bit challenging to install single-handedly. Once installed, though, it is very solid and secure; the bike barely moves as I'm driving. Having the bike on this rack frees up the bed of the truck and means I don't have to remove my topper or tow a trailer to transport the bike.

This carrier is well made, easy to put together, strong and sturdy. Hauled my scooter without any issues. To make things easier for myself, I added a 6’ aluminum dirt bike ramp in place of the shorter supplied steel ramp. I’ve done business with etrailer for quite a number of years and I’ve always been satisfied with their products.

by:

Worked well except when mounted on our RV Ramp was too short for the height and scooter got caught on rack. etrailer does not sell a longer ramp to use.

by:

Carrier ramp has worked as advertised for my KLR 650. Run it on the back of my RV. Towed it to Utah and back from California with no problems.

by:

Simple for a 40 year old female to put on the back of her car. Still in good condition a year later!

by:

Hauls a 300lb scooter well. The included ramp is too short for practical use. I purchased a 6ft aluminum dirt bike ramp from etrailer and bolted it up front.

The ramp is nearly 40 inches long and should be long enough to work with most vehicles.

I did look into a wheel chock for the carrier however there is not one currently available. We do carry ratchet straps that you can use with the tie down points on the carrier. It is part # SS6-SL14. You mentioned that you were using this carrier with a KLR 650 which weighs close to 500 pounds. This could be overloading the tongue of your hitch if your hitches tongue weight is 500 pounds. The weight of the carrier is approximately 67 pounds which you will want to factor it with the weight of the motorcycle.

by:

High quality carrier that may be better suited for motorcycles and dirt bikes than a scooter. It has a bolt pin that adds stability and reduces motion, the "arms" that bridge the span is made of quality steel and much stronger than a look alike product sold by Amazon. The ramp securely attaches to carrier for transport with two easy to use hand bolts. When attaching the ramp for loading and unloading it currently just has a metal groove to ensure the ramp does not move forward or backward. If the bike is pushed on at an angle and starts up the side of the rail it could tip the rail as it is not locked in place but rather relies on gravity. If they used a pin or one of the bolts used to lock the ramp on the carrier for transport they could add additional safety to the loading ramp. The ramp is solid with high beveled sides. Because of the height of my receiver on my Ram 1500 and the height of the beveled sides it made unloading a Hooligan 170i scooter very challenging as the shrouds under the scooter could get caught. This was caused by the angle at the top of the ramp based on the height of the truck and length of ramp. A motorcycle / dirt bike would not have this issue. I would definitely recommend this product for use with a dirt bike or motorcycle based on quality of material used, strength, design, the way the ramp attaches for transport. I would recommend it for a scooter if your receiver/hitch height is lower to the ground than that of a full sized pickup, like on the back of a minivan or small SUV.

I have also purchased several receivers thru etrailer and highly recommend them as a merchant. Everything I have purchased from them has been a quality product and they provide very good support.

by:

Not a normal source for a carrier but when compared to some of the other popular brands I found this model has s a few features that are not found on other brands specifically the ability to use 2 ratchet straps at the front and back make for very secure and stable mounting of your bile. The welded in threaded bolts in the tongue allows for elimination of rocking at that joint so overall a very stable way to haul a bike. I bought one three years ago but backed into a pole a few months ago and after shopping around found this to still be the superior product.

by:

I had my doubts, and while it’s not listed as being Grom friendly, it hauled my Grom with no problems. Very sturdy and very heavy duty.

by:

This was easy to assemble and is holding up well. I haul an e-bike on it.

by:

The assembly was long and hard for Me. If You don't have the proper socket set the included wrenches will leave You working way too hard. Final product after assembly is great. Just what I needed for this long wheel base bike. Ramp is so helpful in loading. I also purchased the retractable straps. Not yet tested on the road . Weather coming in will delay that.

by:

Easy to assemble, easy to use. I lug around my 450SXF on my 2005 Prius. Works great.

by:

Great item, Makes taking bike along anywhere I want to go so much easier.

by:

Motorcycle rack has worked great so far. Use it almost every weekend to go ride. Easy to put on and take off.

by:

Would have given it 5 stars but the ramp needs to be twice the length that it is. The carrier itself is very strong and it has plenty of tie down locations. Great product overall. Hauling a 250 with it

by:

Great bike rack and easy to install thank you.

by:

This is a heavy duty rack. Well built. The tie downs are located in the perfect position. The ramp removes with a thumb screw and allows you to load or unload from either side. You can tell there was a lot of thought put into this carrier.

by:

Ramp is way to short!

by:

I can’t really even rate because I haven’t been able to put it together to use. The carrier did NOT come with any of the assembly hardware. I have a pile of metal sitting in the corner of the garage. I requested a replacement but that wasn’t an option, I requested the hardware and an order was placed but sat unfulfilled for 4 months then cancelled. Needless to say I wasted a good amount of money and still do not have a functional carrier. etrailer please help me out

I carry a 250 XC motorcycle on this carrier. I can use it on the front of my 2008 Tundra with the Draw Tight hitch when I pull the drift boat or have my single pontoon boat in the bed. This way I can do my own shuttles when fishing the rivers.I have also used this carrier on our Pleasure Way RV which in on a Mercedes Sprinter chassis.

Works great to haul my 1982 Yamaha 250XT. I use it for shuttling myself on river trout fishing trips. I load the pontoon in the bed on the 2008 Tundra and the motorcycle on the front.

by:

Very heavy duty should hold my bike

I am a fan of etrailer and this product is one of the reasons I go there for anything towing related.
I placed the order on the 12th, and today is the 14th. My product was delivered, I installed it in about 30 minutes and now it is loaded and ready to go. Number one: Fast delivery. Number two: Easy instructions. Number three: Excellent quality. I needed a hitch mounted ebike or motorcycle carrier to transport my Segway which weighs 121 pounds that included a ramp. This product not only fit the bill but did so at an excellent price.
Fast delivery, great quality, excellent price. What is there not to love?

by:

I bought this for my E-scooter hoping it would work with the 10” little tires my scooter has, but it doesn’t cause the brake disc nearly rub and hit the center bridge support. I was a little disappointed that it didn’t work cause this Thing is very well built and works awesome!! . I hat e to get rid of it, but it doesn’t work for my needs. Put it together was very simple. Just take your time and follow the instructions.

by:

I bought the etrailer motorcycle hitch carrie rto drive my son and his 500 lbs motorcycle to college at CU Boulder from Virginia. It handled great with no problems. I would have rated it 5 stars but the main bolt that connects it stripped when I went to pick him up a year later. Simply bolt a through bolt washer nut and lock washer for the trip back.

by:

Very well built. Used it for an ebike and it worked great. High quality. Thank you.

  • Scooter Carrier Recommendation for 2012 Cadillac SRX Luxury with Draw Tite #75682 Hitch
The weight of the etrailer Carrier part # e98873 that you referenced is 58 lbs. So that would put you at a total of 373 lbs between the carrier and the scooter. That would be under the 400 lb capacity of the Draw Tite hitch part # 75682 that you have so it would work just fine.

Since there are different configurations of the 2014 Ford F-150, it is going to depend on the specific model. The vehicle will have its own tongue weight capacity, some models may have a higher capacity than others. So knowing that ahead of time will help since it would not help to add a hitch with a high tongue weight capacity of the vehicle cannot handle that much weight as well.
