Great quality and serves its purpose. I wish I ordered the slightly bigger one to fit the bins and items I use it for. For example, a white standard igloo cooler doesn’t fit the way I need it to maximize loading capacity. I highly recommend a stabilizer to prevent wobble.

by:

Very nice quality. Took one person and two wrench about 15 minutes to install the cargo carrier from box. It is very sturdy and the finish is very good. I really like the added height this specific carrier provides.

One year later: Used this carrier during the winter months traveling from New York to California and back. About 9000 miles of driving with the carrier loaded with gears, it was such a great alternative to roof rack carriers. I was able to get around 30-34 mpg with this carrier installed compared to around 22mpg with a roof rack carrier.

This product is good to go! It's been a year now. It's been thru two deer seasons and a couple 1k mile round trips. I've stood on it with no problem (stay on the bars and not on the mesh obviously). I recommend picking up a hitch-clamp to put on it to entirely eliminate any rattle on the hitch.

by:

Easy to assemble, sturdy, well worth the money. I've used it to haul tools, luggage, and even a small 4 wheeler from SC to TX and back again. It has a tendency to rock back and forth, but I usually just include a strap or two back to the chain stays on my expedition, and it stops the wobble.

by:

Easy to assemble and sturdy. Even when not on the vehicle we use it in the shed as a bike rack so my children lock their bikes to it.
Easy solution if you need more cargo space on your long trips!

by:

As expected easy to build. Looks like a good finish. Delivered quickly.

by:

Fast shipping. Easy install. Exactly what I needed

by:

Easy to assemble, sturdy and rode well. Went on a fishing trip to Canada with my Avalanche and not a lot of storage in those beds. Bought a couple large totes and we packed them full. Had plenty of room for the rest of the stuff in the truck. Used a few tie downs and a couple ratchet straps and we were good to go.

by:

Solid carrier. Used it to haul 2 pack & plays as well as a double stroller, so we could put our clothes & other luggage inside on a long road trip with family.

by:

The 20x59 inch fixed cargo carrier (non folding) with off-set angle to give more ground clearance is a great find! It fits the 2” receiver, but we added the u-bolt stabilizer for support. Perfect for car camping. Tents , chairs, ez-up find their place here.

by:

Easy to set up and use, holds plenty of gear such as coolers, footlockers, etc.

by:

It holds two of the large black and yellow tote boxes perfect

by:

The cargo carrier was very easy to put together and is going to make alot of extra room for vacation. The curved post keeps the carrier up but not so far that it gets in the way of the tail gait lifting. Looks great on my Ford Escape 2020. Really appreciate the fantastic customer service when I was trying to decide which carrier to buy.

Still loving it!!

by:

I already reviewed this product, just adding a few pictures of it on our vehicle. The hatch clears the carrier when empty, but loaded might be a different story. Just have to make sure we load the trunk first.

by:

Good sturdy carrier. Easy to assemble. Not too heavy to lift and attach to vehicle, or remove and store. Used on a 2k mile trip with my 2016 Honda Odyssey. It would be nice to have a brace or hook to allow cargo net hooks to connect at the top corners without sliding left or right. Even so, it did not present a problem.

by:

Works as advertized. Only used the carrier once because of using a bike rack on most trips.

by:

Easy install of the hitch and the rack is perfect for our outdoor activities. Thanks for the help on choosing it.

by:

Used this to travel from Pa to Maine. Worked great used a locking hitch pin and all was secure.

One year later and this carrier still gets 5 stars. We have used it countless times and still is as great as it ever was.

by:

Quality of the rack seems very good. Communication from etrailer was abundant, and the order arrived sooner than anticipated.

by:

This is a rugged carrier, the finish is very good, Great product!

by:

After having this cargo carrier for a year, it's still serving us well. I bought it for family roadtrips to give us extra space in our SUV. I use a couple storage containers from Costco and some ratcheting tie downs that fit great on this carrier. It's sturdy and not too bulky for one person to attach or remove.

20 x 59 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - 500 lbs. Bought for extra room as we moved from VA to SD. Little disappointed as it sits lower to the ground than in the video of the 2014 Kia Sorento (same vehicle I have). Without some type of fabrication the right side that is over the exhaust is unusable. I melted a container as the exhaust exits right at the same level as the carrier. Will figure something out. Thx.

You mentioned that the exhaust is unusable and I wanted to advise that redirecting the exhaust would help. Often an exhaust tip would be one way to do so. I apologize as I do not have one to offer from our site.

by:

I haven't yet assembled the Curt Cargo Carrier, but I'm always impressed by etrailer's customer service. I ordered the carrier on Saturday and within an hour I received an email stating that the carrier had shipped. etrailer's shipment tracking is way cooler than UPS, FedEx or USPS - you get to see a map with the shipment's progress on the route. And the shipment arrived on the scheduled day.

Love it. Super strong and super handy

by:

Use it for camping and out yearly vacation (9 hour drive). Sturdy and easy to take on and off. No signs of bending or weakening.

by:

Installed cargo carrier ,it fit perfect, and quality was up to a high standard, this is my forth order from etrailer and have been pleased each time . It was made heavier than I needed but will last me for years. I am well pleased and was delivered a day ahead of the time .

  • Hitch Mounted Carrier To Carry 20-Lb Propane Tank
We do have carriers like part # C18150 for a trailer hitch but they are designed to be used for cargo. You would need to make sure you secure the propane tank really well so it does not fall or have a chance of falling out of the carrier. Also, you may want to check with the authorities to see if it is legally permissible to carry propane in a hitch mounted carrier. It would be bad if the rear of your vehicle were involved in an accident.

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2008 Honda Pilot
First, the 2008 Honda Pilot with the factory 2 inch trailer hitch or even an aftermarket hitch has the face of the receiver pretty much flush with the rear bumper. That is important because it means that most if not all carriers will clear the rear of the vehicle. The Curt carrier # C18150 would work well. Fixed carriers are sturdy because there are no additional pivot points on them. But when not in use the carrier will just be sitting back there and may cause clearance issues in some...

The Surco Folding Basket Adapter is for 2" hitches # 52015 and works directly with the Cargo Carrier part # C18150 and the folding adapter part # 52015 would work well together. These have been confirmed to work together. If you are using this in an unconventional manner of some kind, then I would certainly only do it when parked. We do know that the two product will work together.

In regards to the Surco Folding Bracket Adapter # 52015, it is only intended to work with select cargo carriers; the 20 x 59 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # C18150, and the 20x60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # C18130. As far as compatibility with other brands of cargo carriers like the MaxxHaul you mention, it is not guaranteed to work. The Flint Hill Goods 30" x 50" Wheelchair Carrier w/ 48" Ramp - 2" Hitch # FHG77ZR will extend back from the hitch pin hole 14 inches when in use, but only 4-3/4 inches when in the upright folded storage position due to its generous raised sides. • Hauling a Front Mounted Generator Options
In order to haul a generator on the front of your vehicle, I suggest using a front mount trailer hitch such as the # 13703. The non-folding cargo carrier Curt, part # C18150, can be used with this folding Basket Adapter and it still has the same capacity, 500 lbs, with or without the adapter. Yes, the etrailer Cargo Carrier # e98874 will absolutely have enough clearance to use and clear the spare tire on your 2019 Keystone Cougar 34TSB Travel Trailer. Based on my research, this trailer has a hitch which is mounted and protrudes from its bumper; additionally, the trailer uses ST225/75R15 tires, so your spare will be just under 9 inches wide, which the carrier will easily clear.
