Question:

You probably won't kill yourself but it still isn't a good idea to overload your roof rack or vehicle roof capacity, whichever is lower. Should the roof rack fail it could lead to gear coming off the roof which could cause some problems for other drivers. What all do you have up on the roof? And is there anything that is about 15 pounds that you could put inside your 2017 Subaru Forester?
Another option is to install a trailer hitch and use a hitch mounted cargo carrier to hold some of your gear. If you are interested I recommend hitch # 75876 and cargo carrier # C18150 for a relatively inexpensive way to add more carrying options to your Forester. I have linked videos on the hitch and carrier for you.
