  • Brake Assemblies and Hub/Rotors for a AL-KO 6k Torsion Axle
In order to pick out the correct hub assembly for a trailer you are going to need know a few key pieces of information. The first thing you will need to know is the bolt pattern of your hubs. Since you said you have a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern that narrows down the results. Next thing you will need to know is what spindle you have on your trailer. In order to do that you can either get the inner and outer bearing numbers from a hub or use a dial or digital caliper to get exact measurements...

  • Troubleshooting Voltage Drop from 12V to 7V When Trailer Brakes are Installed
It sounds like you may have a poor ground connection which is causing low voltage when you are testing. Sometimes it may look like we have a really good ground point but some paint or debris is getting in the way and causing issues. What I recommend doing is taking your trailer brake ground wires and running them up to your main trailer ground location. You will likely need more 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and I recommend using Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 because they hold up much...

  • Replacement Brake Assemblies for 2002 Cougar 276 5th Wheel with 3500 lb Axles
A 3500 lb axle would typically use a 10 x 2-1/4 inch brake assembly. You can check this by measuring your existing hub/drums. The inside diameter and depth of your drum (see photo) will be needed to choose the correct replacement brake assembly. You will also need to make sure that the brake assembly you choose has a bolt pattern that matches the brake mounting flange. For a 10 inch assembly, your mounting flange should have 4 holes laid out in a square pattern. If you discover that...

  • Recommended Drum Brake Assemblies for Home Built Trailer with 4 Hole Brake Flange and 6 Lug Hub
For the 6 lug hubs, the brake assemblies compatible with your 4 hole flange are the Dexter Electric Brake Assembly for 4 Bolt or 5 Bolt Flange - 12" - Left Hand - 6,000 lbs # 23-105-09 and the Right Hand # 23-106-09. The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5.2K and 6K E-Z Lube Axles - 12" - 6 on 5-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K will work well for this assembly if you need replacement...

  • How to Determine if Trailer Brake Assemblies 23-106-09/23-105-09 Fit Trailer
I can help you find the right assemblies, but I do not know exactly which ones you have on your trailer. To pick out the correct brake assemblies for your trailer you need to know a few things. You will want to measure the inner diameter of your hub/drums and the depth of the drums to determine what brake assembly dimensions you need. For example the part # 23-105-09 is a 12 inch by inch thick brake assembly. You also want to determine what the bolt pattern is of your assembly mounting...

  • 12 x 2 Inch Electric Trailer Brakes with a 4 Bolt Mounting Pattern
The 4-bolt brake mounting pattern is fairly rare in a 12 x 2 inch assembly. We have some options though; for 6K axles we have # 23-105-09 for the left and # 23-106-09 for the right. The 4-bolt pattern on these assemblies is offset meaning the bottom 2 holes are closer together than the top 2 holes. If that is what you have then either set listed above would work. I have linked videos on each of these types of brakes for you.

If your 1968 Airstream has 12 by 2 inch brake assemblies and the mounting flange has 5 bolts, 4 that are 2-1/16 inches on center from each other and the bottom two being 3 inches on center, then the # 23-106, and # 23-105 brake assemblies will work on your trailer. If your trailer has a 4 bolt mounting pattern then the # 23-106-09 and # 23-105-09 brake assemblies will be the correct part. The 4 bolt style is not common. It is difficult to recommend bearings and seals without knowing the...

  • How to Ground Brake Assembly Magnet on Older Camper
I'd ground the magnet to the trailer frame as close as possible to the magnet, but also run a ground wire from that screw to the main ground on the trailer tongue. Where the ring terminals ground to the trailer frame, make sure that there's a dime sized spot of bare metal around the hole, and use a star washer between the ring terminal and the trailer frame to bite into the metal for a good connection. Once installed, hit the ground screw with a quick splort of rust resistant spray paint...

You also want to consider if you have a proportional brake controller that the internal sensor won't be functioning when at a stop and testing them. Other than both brake assemblies being a 12x2 inch for a 6K axle, there are several differences between the two brake assemblies. Brake assemblies are either right or left side of the trailer specific. The # 23-458 is for the left side of a trailer while # 23-106-09 is for the right hand. The # 23-458 is a Nev-R-Adjust assembly that will self adjust each time the trailer is backed. The # 23-106-09 requires the brakes be manually adjusted. • Gauge Wire Recommendation for Brake Output Circuit on Trailer
Looking at the size of your trailer I am not surprised you are seeing some voltage loss. This is why it's recommended to use at least 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by foot) to run from the trailer connector back to the brake assemblies. This will reduce the voltage loss as well as carry more amperage.
