I ordered these brakes on Tuesday they arrived at my house (in southeast Texas) on Friday (free shipping). These brakes heavy duty and a breeze to install. I paid twice as much for brakes I had bought before, locally. Good job ETrailer!!!!

No problems at all. They still work as good as the day I put them on.

EXCELLENT...... START TO FINISH. Fantastic service, great prices, quality products. Here's a before and after picture. It only took 30 minutes and basic tools to make the replacement. So much better than trying to clean up the old rusty one. Thanks again, Bill Borland in Michigan

Brakes were a perfect match for my camper and a simple bolt up. Thank you Anthony W. For making sure I got the right parts

by:

I bought 2 sets of 12x2 electric brake assembly for my car hauler. I was just going to replace the shoes but after remembering the difficaulty in doing drum brakes in the early days, I found it easier and less time consuming by just remove 5 bolts and connect two wires. This product came to my door with in only 3 days. Great looking product (no picture because i"m writing this after the install).
I have been back to etrailer several time for other items such as hitch shank, wheel center caps even grease caps. Great place to shop.

Sara was very helpful at putting together my order after my POT HOLE incident, which destroyed the rim, tire, brake assembly, etc. Thanks for the help, im back on the road !!

by:

Brakes arrived very quickly and looked very good. One spring and adjustment rod came off during shipping, but the pieces were there and easily installed. I haven't installed them yet, but am very happy with product at this point.

am still very pleased with these brakes. They have performed great with no problems to date.

I am writing this very favorable review of my online shopping experience with etrailer. Recently I had to replace the brakes, hubs, wheels and tires on my travel trailer. Please keep in mind that I am a 65 year old man without a lot of experience with online shopping. Never-the-less, I decided to give it a try in hopes of saving some money. To my surprise, etrailer made the experience very easy and painless. Before I placed my order on line, I had a question about one of the items on my shopping list, so I placed a call to them. I spoke with a very lovely and patient Customer Service Representative by the name of Michelle S. She was very helpful in answering my questions and encouraged me to call her back directly when I was ready to place my order; and so I did. During the shipping process, she kept me informed through emails the status of my order and everything arrived on time and in great shape. I truly appreciate the personalized services I received doing business with etrailer. They truly removed all of the uncertainty and nervousness of shopping online.

by:

Unfortunately, one of the 4 brakes came with the spring and adjuster shaft on the bottom of the box. I put them back on without too much trouble but etrailer should review the product packaging in order to protect the brakes from damage. The install needs shrink tubing style crimp connectors. Mine required sizes for 16 to 18 gage and one size up for joining 3 wires where one wire crosses over thru the axel from the left to the right side. Also there are two adjuster plugs per brake so a total of 8 plugs are required for 4 brakes. Once installed they worked great.

by:

The right and left hand brake were very easy to install and came with everything needed. The only problem after install, is that the left hand break gave off a buzzing sound while brakes were not engaged...adjusting the arm as suggested by your technicians to the electric magnet did not help...there was little engagement from magnet to drum while brake were not engaged, that i decided to go the 8k miles anyway, checking every night stop...it still has the buzzing sound and I will need to replace.

by:

New Dexter complete brake assembly even comes with new mounting nuts. Fast service and quality item.

by:

Good OEM replacement parts at the best price I could find. Bolted right up with no issues. Very disappointed that the brake adjuster slots do not come with plugs. Plugs from old brake assy, did not fit, plus there are two slots per new brake assy, but only one on old brake assy. Ordered 8 plugs. Disappointed as I had to pay for additional shipping when I ha free shipping.

by:

I had bought a used Hallmark 24' cargo trailer. Got around to repacking the bearings and one brake assembly had just come apart. Electric brakes and one lead was gone so I order this item. Arrived in a timely manner. Installed backing plate/brakes and hub in about 15 minutes. Attached electric brake leads and everything looks great. I have not figured out how to test the electric brakes.

by:

I had ordered some parts online to rebuild the suspension on one of our trailers. Customer service called me a short time later to inform me that they were out of stock on some items, they asked if it was possible to substitute some items. She was able to find the exact parts I needed in a different kit. The parts came within 3 days, very well packed, and they fit perfectly! This is the 3rd time I've ordered from etrailer and they have exceeded my expectations every time. EXCELLENT customer service and quality parts.

by:

Great to work with. Understood what I needed better than I did. Perfect fit.

by:

Bolted them on, wired trailer over from hydraulic brakes. this job took about 4 hours start to finish. 3 axle trailer. These brakes will hold back my tractor.

by:

I ordered electric brakes on box was opened before, but all parts was still there, nothing lost. Got parts fairly quick also.
I've made purchases before from etrailer will continue in future.

by:

The new brakes work well on my trailer. However, when I replace them next time I will spend the extra $$ to get the self adjusting version.

by:

Worked great ..fast delivery
Best of
all made in USA

  • Converting to Electric Brakes on a 1994 Boat Trailer
You can use your 10" hubs when switching out your surge brakes to electric brakes. 12" brakes are going to be a lot more common. The only reason you would need to switch to 12" hubs would be if the 12" brakes don't meet the weight rating of your trailer. If you trailer is rated for 6,000 lbs, you would want to get 12" hubs and use the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies # 23-105 and # 23-106 you were looking at. I included a link below to a video showing how to install these electric...

  • Which Brake Assemblies fit a 5-Bolt Brake Assembly Backing Plate on a 6K Axle
I called my contact at Dexter and spoke with him at length about this. Mobile home axles are traditionally weld-on brake assembles that cannot be replaced. If they are actually bolt-on both the 6K and 7K weight capacities will work. Part # 23-105 and part # 23-106 are left and right side 6K capacity brake assemblies. Part # 23-180 and part # 23-181 are left and right side 7K capacity brake assemblies. They have the same mounting pattern and size. The 5-bolt brake assembly pattern is a...

  • Electric Trailer Brakes With Parking Brakes For Dexter 6,000LB Trailer Axles
You would need the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly with Parking Brake Left # 23-112 and Right # 23-113 for each axle to use the brakes as a parking brake. The Dexter Breakaway and Parking Kit for Drum Brakes # T2385200 will give you the cables and handle needed to set the brakes. The only way to keep the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly Left # 23-105 and Right # 23-106 would require constant 12 volt power to keep the electromagnet engaged to the brake drum.

  • Troubleshooting New Trailer Brakes the Feel Weak
You didn't mention adjusting the brakes so I believe that is where your problem lies as this is a very common problem. You want to tighten the brake assemblies so that there is a light drag on the hub/wheel as you turn it otherwise the brakes will feel pretty weak. To see how to manually adjust trailer brake assemblies check out the video I attached, fast-forward to the 4:35 mark of the video.

  • Brake Controller Install on 2007 Sierra Causing Mirror Display and Interior Lights to Malfunction
My best guess is that during the installation, something under the dash was inadvertently dislodged. The tow package wiring and the interior lamp and power mirror temperature display circuits are not related in any way, so either something was accidentally unplugged or the malfunctions you mentioned are merely coincidental. Just to make absolutely sure I hadn't missed anything, I checked with my contact at Tekonsha. He could think of no possible way a brake controller installation could...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Assemblies Not Holding Voltage from Brake Controller
Most likely the voltage drop you are experiencing is being caused by something inside the trailer brake assemblies themselves. Since full voltage is making its way back to the assemblies (just not staying there) we can probably rule out the actual wiring on the trailer between the assemblies and the 7-Way connector. I recommend pulling your hubs and checking the brake magnets for wear. If you can visually see the copper windings beginning to show through the friction surface then they...

  • Troubleshooting One Electric Trailer Brake That Locked Up While Driving on Interstate
It sounds like there could be a short in your trailer wiring for one of the brakes or there could have been a mechanical failure in that one brake assembly. I think the second possibility is more likely since only one brake was affected. You will want to inspect the wiring to the affected brake (and the others too) to check for signs of damaged wires or worn insulation that could cause a short. If the short were very near the one brake assembly then that might cause the issue to be isolated...

  • Information Needed to Add Electric Brakes to a Trailer
To see absolutely everything you need to add electric brakes to your trailer check out the link to the FAQ article I attached to the right that covers everything. • One Brake Sometimes Locks Up on a 5th Wheel Trailer
Often times when one brake locks up and the others do not it is an electrical issue that can stem from several sources. First you will want to visually inspect the magnets to see if the windings are coming through. If they are then the magnets will need to be replaced. They could be shorting out and drawing too much power causing it to lock up. Another issue could be the wiring to the magnets. Make sure the grounds are attached to a nearby corrosion free bare metal surface. Inspect the...

  • Positions of Circuits on a 7-Way
I believe you are referencing the position of circuits on a 7-way connector. If you are facing the 7-Way, using either tester, you will test for the proper signal as follows: 1 oclock position = 12 volt hot lead 3 oclock position = right turn/brake light 5 oclock position = brake controller output 7 oclock position = ground 9 oclock position = left turn/brake light 11 oclock position = tail and running lights Center = reverse lights I attached a diagram that hopefully makes this more clear.

  • Bypassing Trailer Wiring After Squirrels Ate Through It
It probably does run through the frame but to get a wiring diagram or other technical information you would need to contact the trailer manufacturer. The easiest thing to do is to just run a new wire or wires and bypass the old wiring. There could be further damage that is unseen. For brake wire I recommend # 10-1-1 which is sold by the foot. For the lights I recommend # DW04923-1 which is jacketed for additional protection from vicious North American Red Tailed wire munching squirrels...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Dont Operate With Manual Brake Switch on Brake Controller
There are a few things that might be causing the issue you describe. You might have an open ground in the brake system, the connector on the trailer or the vehicle might be damaged, corroded or incorrectly wired. Your brake controller might also be faulty. Perhaps the easiest place to start would be to try the tow vehicle with another trailer that's equipped with electric brakes. If everything works fine with another trailer, then it's a sure bet that the problem is in your trailer wiring....

If the mounting flange doesn't take a 4-bolt assembly let me know. This gives the brake assemblies more stopping power. They fit the same axles and spindle mounts, the only difference is how much weight the assemblies can safely stop.
