Can B&W Companion Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Adapter # BWRVK3500 Be Used with Dodge Factory Gooseneck
Question:
I have a BandW Companion Fifth Wheel hitch that I used in my 2012 ram. IT connected to the truck using the tubular stem that went into the gooseneck hitch and the used u bolts to connect the fifth wheel hitch frame. I just purchased a 2014 ram that has the factory gooseneck and Fifth wheel prep package. Instead of purchasing a new BandW base can I purchase the stem that would slide into the factory OEM Gooseneck hitch that has the ball bearing locking mechanism that would then connect to the BandW hitch I have know using the U bolts. A B&W Companion Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter like part # BWRVK3500 has a square base which is made to connect directly to a Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. Since your 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 is equipped with a factory gooseneck hitch which uses a round ball shaft and there is no conversion "stem" available, this style of Companion would not work in your truck.
Since your truck is equipped with the factory prep package, I have two options that will work for you.
One option is to go with a hitch like the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch, # BWRVK3600, will allow you to attach the hitch directly to the receivers of the prep package.
Another option would be to use the Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter, # RP30154, which would allow you to use any fifth wheel hitch that attaches to standard above bed rails.
