Replacement Mounting Hardware for the Yakima Double Down Hitch Mounted Bike Rack

Question:

I have a Yakima hitch mounted bike rack and a 1 1/4 inch trailer hitch. I am wondering if there is a shorter bolt I could use to attach the rack to the hitch. The stock bolt is difficult to work with due to the length and my hitch configuration.

I contacted our representative at Yakima regarding a shorter replacement bolt for the Yakima DoubleDown # Y0424. The replacement bolt part 8820052 was 3-3/4 inches long but is now discontinued.

Discontinued part 8820052 has been replaced by Yakima Mounting Hardware # Y8890176. The kit includes a replacement hitch bolt, clip and wrench for securing a Yakima FlipSide, DoubleDown or SwingDaddy bike carrier to your hitch. The bolt is a 1/2 inch bolt, which measures 4-9/16 inches long, and would use an adjustable wrench or a 3/4 inch socket to install. See diagram to the right.

I don't think the 4-9/16 inch bolt will be short enough to work with your hitch configuration.
