New Nev-R-Adjust Brakes Seem Weaker than Old Brakes on 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
Do the never adjust work only when backing up or either back or forward pull? I installed them on a 5th wheel and did the install adjustment but the brakes are not being applied with as much force as the old ones. Will they adjust after use or do they have to be readjusted

Helpful Expert Reply:
Nev-R-Adjust brakes such as # 23-459 do require an initial adjustment. If you made that initial adjustment you should be able to hear a slight but constant drag of the brake pads on the drum when the wheel is turned.
If you do not hear that then they will need to be adjusted out more or they will eventually adjust out themselves. Driving forward is all you would have to do to get them to adjust themselves but it can take a while without the proper initial adjustment.
You may also need to change the settings on the brake controller. The new brake magnets may not be as strong as the old ones if you had heavier assemblies on before.
Also make sure the wiring to the magnets is not pinched and that the grounds are attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces near the magnets.
