No Left or Right Turn Signal Power on 2014 Forest River Motor Home on a Ford E-450 Van Chassis
Question:
I have a 2014 Forest River E450 motor home. At the trailer connector i have NO left or right signal light current. All relays are installed but No power to the these two relays. All that I need are left and right signal lights.tail lights and brake lights. ? what do I need in order to get this system to function correctly so that I can safely tow my car? Is this problem RV related or is it a Ford problem? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If your 2014 Forest River on the Ford van chassis has a factory installed trailer connector then it could be missing a fuse or two (if all the relays are present). Use the owners manual to find the locations of all the fuses and relays associated with the tow package wiring.
On a 4-Way or 7-Way trailer connector, the brake lights and turn signals are on the same circuits. So if you have the brake lights working at the connector but not the turn signals that is likely a fuse issue. Since the vehicle is so new you should have some kind of warranty on it. If it is a factory installed trailer wiring connector I would take it back to the dealer and have them fix it.
If the trailer connector was installed aftermarket then there is some testing you can do to determine where the problem is. I have included a link to the right that should help.
If the issue is on the trailer (the signals do not blink on the trailer but the vehicle side connector has power like it is supposed to) then the issue is likely a bad ground on the trailer.
Ground problems normally show up when there is more draw on a system such as when you have the running lights on and then use another function like a turn signal or brake light.
Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.
The light grounds should also be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. If there is anything between a light ground and the metal trailer frame or if the trailer has an aluminum frame, tilt bed, or folding tongue, any of these things can interrupt the ground. Running jumper wires from the light grounds to the main trailer connector ground can help.
