on the circuit breaker it has a silver and a copper post does it matter which way i hook up?

Yes, the copper side should be connected to the battery, the chrome side should be the output to the brake controller, trailer battery, etc.

The easiest way to do this would be to run a wire to the positive battery terminal, via a 20 amp inline circuit breaker, item #PK54520.
