Solution for Reese Spring Bars that are Too Short to Reach Attachment Point
Question:
I have a reese weight distributing hitch with 750# spring bars that are 27.5inch long from the center of the triunion to the center of the chain u bolt and my trailer has chain brackets welded on that I would like to use but the spring bars need a couple more inches in length to line up chains directly below the brackets. Can I extend the spring bars with some metal brackets? Is it important to have the u bolt directly below the chain brackets or is it ok to be a couple inches rearward with the chain brackets?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The solution is to relocate the attachment point for your spring bars by using the Chain Hangers for Reese Weight Distribution Systems # RP58305. This part has a quick, bolt-on installation.
We cannot recommend that you manufacture your own chain brackets.
I have included a link to an article about common weight distribution and sway control questions for your reference.
