Drivers Side Brake and Turn Signal Lights Not Working on a 2012 Ram 3500 4x4 Cummins Diesel
Question:
I was wanting to know what could be causing the left brake light to not work periodically ? It started about a year ago ,not that often , now it happens more frequently. Thought it might be the socket , not it, changed bulbs not the problem . Checked the trailer plug for brake light voltage on that side it has power to the left blinker but at the same time the truck blinker / brake light does not have power at the socket or the plug that goes to the socket. Does the brake blinker circuit go through the computer on this model ? if not i must have a lose connection but where?

When a light is only working periodically that is usually an indication of a weak ground connection or a loose wire. But on a newer truck like your 2012 Ram 3500 this does not seem likely. The trailer connector having power is not surprising. That means that the trailer wiring is independent of the truck lights. I would start at the front and work my way back. You could have something going on with the fuse and/or relay (if equipped) on that side. Use the truck owners manual to find all fuse/relay locations that may affect the left side lights.
Some times a bulb in one place can affect the performance of a bulb in another place on the truck. This is usually seen on older vehicles but you never know.
The only other thing to do after that is to trace the wiring from the trouble light forward and try to track down a potential problem. And if all else fails you may have to take it to a dealer.
