Question:

What weight distributing hitch system do you recommend for my setup, please: 1 pole tongue trailer, 2 gross trailer weight 5,500 lb, 3 tongue weight 640 lb, 4 tandem trailer with electric brakes, 5 need to be able to back up. I know that I will need a pole tongue adapter RP58393, but Im uncertain which WD system would be best. Thanks.

The weight distribution system I recommend for your tandem trailer is the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w Sway Control, part # RP66559. This system works with trailers that have 500 to 1000 lbs tongue weight. This system also features sway control which helps when dealing with high winds and large trucks passing by on the highway.

A weight distributing shank is included, but you'll also need the properly sized trailer ball with a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank like # 63845 for a 2 inch ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.

There are no weight distribution systems that allow you to back up at extreme angles. If you are backing up in a straight line or a moderate turn you would probably be okay. But if you are backing up when there is any sharp turn where you might jackknife the trailer, it's recommended that the bars be disconnected to avoid damaging them.

You are correct that you need a pole adapter like part # RP58393. This mounts approximately 29 inches back from the hitch ball and includes the mounting brackets and hardware.

I have attached a link to a helpful article about weight distribution you can check out.
