Carrying a Wheel Chair on a 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid Using a Carrier that Fits a 2 Inch Hitch
Question:
You ans. some what my problem.. I do not carry a wheel chair all the time , do it as a favor for a friend... But I know have a car with a 2inch receiver on it and I have a bike rack, transport cart and a small trailer for my 925lb Harley Ultra.. the trailer is around 300 lb... I do not plan on trailing it with this car, since it has no rating to tow .. I have another excape that can tow 3500 lb.with a 2inch receiver .. So I have a lot of different hook ups for a 2inch receiver... Not going to buy more stuff to fit a small receiver... Do you know of anyone that makes such a animal? thanks Semper fi

Since there are no 2 inch trailer hitches for the 2014 Ford Fusion the only way you would be able to carry the wheel chair on the carrier that you have is to use an adapter, # HTAD. However, doing so will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent.
The highest capacity hitch for your Fusion is # C12091 rated for 350 pounds tongue weight. By using the adapter that capacity is reduced to 175 pounds. So the combined weight of the carrier and the wheel chair would have to be less than 175 pounds.
If that is not going to enough you will likely need to use one of your other vehicles that already has a 2 inch hitch.
