Does Replacing Brake Controller On 2002 Toyota Tacoma Require Re-Wiring
Question:
Good afternoon, I had a Tekonsha 9030 voyager inertia activated controller installed on my 2002 Tacoma about 2 years. I would like to upgrade to a digital unit like the Tekonsha 90885 I read about on your website. My question is will all the old wiring have to be removed and a fresh start made to install the digital unit? Or, can some of that initial work be reused with a 90885? Thank you

If you installed the wiring harness with part # 20127 on your 2002 Toyota Tacoma at the time you installed the brake controller, you can simply unplug your old controller and install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885.
The harness allows you to use Tekonsha or Draw-Tite brake controllers and allows you to unplug them easily without all the hassle of re-wiring everything.
If you did not use a harness when you installed your Voyager, you will need to hardwire the new brake controller to your Toyota wiring. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to install a brake controller from scratch.
