Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2005 Chevy Silverado with Factory 7-Way Connector
Question:
hi I was wondering I have a factory installed 7 pole on my 2005 Silverado. The trailer brakes dont seem to be working or am I getting any power to the brakes or battery charge. Do I need a brake controller for the brakes or should they work without one as I dont see one installed , thank you

In order to activate the electric trailer brakes on the trailer you will need a brake controller for your 2005 Chevy Silverado. Since you have a factory installed 7-Way already, installing a brake controller will be easy.
First for a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885. It is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up and use and because it is reliable.
You will also need wiring harness # 3015-P to plug the controller into the junction box under the dash. I have included a link to a video showing installation on a truck similar to yours.
There is also the chance you will need to make some connections under the hood of the truck to make everything fully functional. I have included a link to a help article that covers this for you.
